My friend is a Mercedes and BMW mechanic. He said it even cost him quite a bit to maintain them. Oil changes are pricey.

Wife drove a BMW and it had nothing but issues since day one. Always in the shop. Traded for an Infiniti, and can’t say enough good things about it.

Current cars at the house are 2 Toyotas, 1 Scion, 1 Mazda, 1 Isuzu.

I have to say the '02 Isuzu Trooper had been a phenomenal vehicle. Bought it in '03 with 13k on the clock. Really haven't done anything to it. Oil, brakes, tires, a couple batteries. Did replace the starter once and an O-ring going into the trans at the linkage (leak). Other than that, nothing.

Amazingly enough it's still has the original timing belt and water pump too. Was going to change awhile back but now I'm in the "Kramer Test Drive" mode and will see how long it'll go. It just turned 220k.

Yugo.. WOW thats hilarious.. I forgot about those..
When I was a kid, one of my friends' family had an old corvair. Even as a kid I was shocked at how awful that car was.. I can remember my friend driving it once and the stick shift came out in his hand (true story).. I have never forgotten that.. Maybe that's why I am so adamant about reliability..

And never any equity in the ownership of the vehicle.. You are essentially trading the equity for service moneys.

I bet that M3 was a blast to drive, I have always secretly wanted one. Sometimes you look past the cost to maintain and enjoy the killer ride! Like the BMW M3

My dad was a car guy.. He had an MG-B. It was a super cool car.. I used to ride on the carpeted bench in the back (where the back seat would be if it had one). It was fine for him because he would work on it himself and he enjoyed keeping it up.. It did take a fair amount of his time.. but the childhood memories of that car were awesome.

Toyota and Lexus all the way. Never a Mercedes again. Forget maintenance, just on repairs alone we spent $14k in 2 years. Everything falls apart. Toyota/Lexus just drive and go. Life’s much easier.
