I don't use my phone much when I drive but I like to check in with home when I'm on my way home from work on occasion. When I am moving, all I can get is my "Call History" column, nothing else:

    IMG_1632-Scrubbed.jpg

If I stop, I get all four columns but only when I am not moving:

As soon as the wheels start rolling it is back to "Call History" only. Any idea what is going on?

    See fine print
It’s normal. You can use the voice to call though or install a VIM defeat from @TundraTex if you want be able to use your head unit while driving.

Thanks! That is really a weird situation. I had to pick up my phone and search manually for my daughter's number so I could call her and wish her a Happy Birthday. What's the use of having Blue Tooth if I can't access all of the numbers stored on my phone?

Add them as favorites. You can look at them while driving. You can also push the phone icon and it will show recent calls.

Even though the "Favorites" column is lit up, there is nothing there if I choose it. All I can access is the "Call History". Frustrating.

Do you have 4 spots on the Home page to add 4 favorites?

Try using the 4 way arrow thing on the left side of the steering wheel to navigate the menu

I tried that but the columns are empty when I am moving. I'm uncomfortable fiddling around and experimenting with things like this when I'm driving. It is way easier just to pick up the phone and act like bluetooth isn't even there.

hold the phone button it will bring up siri then say call "name of person in contacts".
All headunits do not let you access stuff like that while driving as a "safety feature". Some aftermarket head units allow you turn that off but factory head units usually do not allow you to bypass it unless you trick it with something like a FRAC.

I have a FRAC for sale if someone needs it. I changed out my headunit to an aftermarket and no longer need it.

PM me if you want to look into it.

Okay, it seems to be getting clearer to me. VIM (Vehicle In Motion) disables certain things like some phone functions. This is my first exposure to a modern "nanny" vehicle so I'm just starting to wade through things like this. It just seems odd that "nanny" has no problem with me making calls to anyone on my "Call History" list but won't let pop one column over (left or right) to make calls from those lists.

Also, I suppose I cannot call 911 to report a drunk driver unless I pull over to use the keypad. I'll just pick up the phone and do it the old fashioned way.

So, the FRAC harness makes it so VIM disabled functions can work? If so, I'm interested.

Yes, just flip a switch and it'll disable the VIM. You can also enter addresses in the nav while moving and stuff like that. Just need to flip the switch back when you're done. But you also get a front camera (buy separately) you can turn on at any time and can turn the rear camera on at any time also.

Yep. Most people get it for the front camera but you can also defeat the VIM with it.

Very cool. I haven't received a PM from you yet. Interestingly, 25 pages in my manual on hands-free use of the phone, not one word about what functions are disabled while the vehicle is in motion at all.

So, if you want to e-mail me here is my e-mail addy:

I cannot view Favorites while driving, only Call History. The Favorites column is highlighted but nothing is there if I select it.
