Bilstein 5100's in front with stock springs enough to level?

So after a few Jeeps and now in to a 17 Tundra CM TRD I have finally determined what my real needs are when it comes to off-roading and mods. In my head I am always going to a bunch a really cool offroad stuff but in reality I never get around to it. I am planning a Moab trip but nothing really technical, going to get in to some backcountry and for the scenery. So while I would love to spend the money to get all the expensive cool stuff I just don't do enough off-roading to justify the costs. The time I spend off road is mostly on the beach, dirt roads, and a little bit of light to moderate stuff and 90% of my driving is on the pavement with a crappy ass commute.

With that said I don't want a lift because of cost and concerned about losing MPG but I would like to level and have been looking at the Bilstein 5100's. Would the 5100's in front with stock springs be enough to level or is there anything else I would need to add? Can I do front only or do I need to rear as well? I would like the 6112's but they are way over current budget.

I am currently running the stock TRD wheels and tires. Will keep the wheels but when tires wear out will go larger but only big enough that I don't need to lift or do any other modding.

Thought and opinions are appreciated as always.

5100 at top setting gets your truck level and measures the same as a PRO. Nothing else is required.

I am also somewhat interested in leveling my truck because I eventually want to put 275/60-20 tires on mine. Excuse my ignorance but how does a mere shock absorber upgrade raise the front of the truck? Could you post a link to the Bilstein 5100 shocks needed to do that?

    Thanks,
    Hans

I am in the same boat, when tires wear out I plan to be going with the Billy 5100s and hoping to fit 275/65r20s on stock limited rims. Did some research but wasn't able to find a definitive answer if they will fit or not but will find out. Plan to set the front shocks at the 1.3" lift, not max height, so when I haul firewood in the back I'm not excessively nose high and front end geometry isn't too far out of whack. The stock black shocks suck and am very much looking forward to replacing them.

I replaced my stock Platinum shocks with 5100s all around at about 5k miles and have been very happy with them. The fronts are at the middle setting which leaves a little rake which is what I wanted. I have 285/65/18 KO2s on SCS SR8's (+25 offset) which fit with no trimming or modification needed, and find the ride with my setup to be better than what I had stock. I did lose a little MPG with the tires but not enough to care.

Nicky, you have any pics of that setup? I recently went with SR8s with that same tire size and my plan is to level out using 5100s too. Would love to see the stance you came out with using that setup.

Unfortunately I don't. My truck is currently covered in snow as we are in the middle of the noreaster in SE PA. I will try to take some in the next few days once things get cleared up and post them.

I have 5100's on the middle setting with 1 coachbuilder shim on each side. Total lift in front is 2" and is level with the back (I did not want to add blocks or shackles to the back). The ride (IMO) is better that with the stock TRD shocks. (Currently running the stock 275/65 18's)

Looks really good how much did that setup cost? Did you just do the front?

Thanks. I did 5100's on all four corners. Shocks were ~$400 from Amazon (my install was scheduled and at the last minute I decided to return the spacer lift I had purchased and go with the 5100's) and the install for all 4 was ~$600. I could have paid less for the install but decided it was better to take my truck to someone who specializes in building off-road vehicles. I am really happy with how it turned out.

Thanks - it is a slow process but it's getting there. :)

I’m trying to get as close to the Pro as possible. So setting the 5100 on top setting will be the same measurement as the Pro? Does the rear need anything else or the 5100 all around gets be as close to the Pro as possible?
