The covers are usually not the problem. The tailgate sometimes leaks. Others have installed tailgate seals. I have a revolver X4 and it's 99% dry. No need for me to put a seal on the tailgate. You can get a fiberglass cover that would probably be the most water resistant. Good luck

I have had NO leaking issues with my Bakflip MX4 cover. We have had some really good storms here in the Bay Area and I always check to see if there is any water in my bed after every storm. So far no problems.

I believe you will always have a tiny bit of water seep in at the top corners of the tailgate.. It is virtually impossible to completely block out every drop of water, especially when there is pressure.
Even the tailgate cap has an uneven surface which would lend itself to a tiny bit of leakage.. BUT the leakage is so small.. It's a non-issue, at least for me.

Thanks guys - give the large variation in peoples experiences I wonder how much of it is related to proper installation. Thanks for all the info.

Well yeah... the one piece lids typically extend past the top edges of the bed. But the loss of flexibility to open all or part of the bed up to hauling tall cargo is a huge consideration.

Diamondback HD has been dry since she he say I put it on. Expensive but worth every penny. Only regret was waiting so long to purchase as I was scared off by sticker price. Turns out, it is worth it.

The Diamondback HD is certainly a supreme unit. but it literally costs twice what my Bakflip MX4 costs. Its another cover that extends over the top of the vertical bed walls so there is no question that it stays dry.. But the inability to fold the cover away to use the bed for tall cargo is a deal-breaker for me. Don't mis-understand.. I love the cover. Its just not a fit for people like me. It all boils down to what you are trying to accomplish with covering the bed.

No rain in SoCal! But after a wash, I have a Roll-n-Lock and rarely have any leaks.

No denying that it has limitations and that it is not for everyone. I will say that the panels are removable in 2-3 minutes. The center bar does require an extra minute or two and a wrench.

I had a bakflip hd as my last cover and I hated it after two years. Leaked REAL bad and the seals did not hold up to the southern heat. Plus, a coat hanger is all that’s needed to across the bed of the truck if the tailgate is locked. The only way you are getting into my bed is with some serious power tools.

Good luck in what you pick. That’s why there are hundreds of options.

I have a tri-fold soft tonneau from Rough Country. (I think they are just about all the same, with different brand names glued or stitched to it; maybe small differences such as improved seals). Anyways, mine has a special dust seal in the front where I know some other brands leak, and the tailgate seal is also very tight. I have not had it in the rain yet, but I have tested it with a pressure washer all the way around and there were no leaks.

I have the solid top undercover, dry as a whistle.
Why would a whistle be dry?
I cannot whistle when my lips are dry either....

I have the old undercover one piece with a tailgate gasket kit and I’ve never seen water in there. So I’ll call it dry.

I have that same one, it came on my truck. When I got it the top had rubbed through the paint, clear to bare metal.

So I had bed liner sprayed all the way around the top edge of the bed and tailgate. Now the top sits on it real nice and the gaps are smaller too.

I would think any of the foldable covers will leak in time. Most if not all pliable materials, where the folds occur are going to "weather" from the elements. They also discolor which would bother me as well. They are still going to keep most of the water out. I have a roll up BAK15121 on my work truck; gets wet in tailgate area, not a lot but enough to mess up any cardboard boxes that may be in there. I keep most of my important stuff back there in some Contico boxes where they stay dry. The draw back to any roll-up cover is the the loss of space by the cab where the cover retracts into, I can it the "can".

As mentioned previously, the hard cover like the Undercover is going to be the dryest for sure. They are not that hard to remove if needed, probably best with two people though.

Always had a little leakage with my Extangs, also on various other customers of mine seem to usually have a little.
Not many where there was a lot of water, in those cases more often than not it was a bad install. A couple were defects.

I don't see too many where there are no leaks when talking to truck customers of mine about such things.

Now I have a #BAMF bed rack and that things leaks like a mofo!!
