OK, I have to, well I don't really have to but want to get my last mod for a while being I have a bunch of mods waiting in the garage!

1st choice -- Looking for a quality bed cover/tonneau cover that won't break the bank but a good quality! I know they leak some what meaning not completely dry!

    2nd Choice----OEM black fender flares!

I did have a Extang 2.0 on the Tacoma and liked it but see there are different makes as well, I was giving a good price of $693.00 with free shipping from a vender here for a Extang 2.0!

I have the factory bed rails but wonder if its better to get one for the rails or take off rails!

Of the 3 I listed, what would the best all round, I will leave it on unless I need the bed! i am going to build a wood type bed divider so I can open one fold and put some tools and needed supplies and to add groceries as needed!

Was thinking ESP aluminum locking storage but still not sold on cutting into the floor!

Any opinions or other covers not mentioned may be better, greatly appreciated!

I’ve been looking at the Bakflip. I’ve seen a lot of people recommend the Extang, but I want in that sits flush. I don’t like the look of the ones that sit above the bed.

Got an American tonneau coz it was cheap. It’s ok but wished I’d spent the extra dosh and got the Back Flip. You pay for what you get as the saying goes

I bought a 2015 Limited a few weeks ago with just under 10,000 miles. when i got there to get it it had a tonneau on it, couldn't see it in pictures online.
I really like it, it has a vinyl top, but under it there is a hard shell and it folds, it has not leaked yet. I had a camper shell on my Tacoma prior, kinda had a love hate relationship with it. it was great sometimes, other times i didn't like it. I only use the truck for working on farms and hunting and so far i like the cover way better than having a shell.

Thanks all for the response, looks like backflip is winning the face, maybe a low profile is good since I’ve tried the Extang!

i like the looks of the hard shell ones better, but i basically got mine for free, which i love, lol.
i really think the vinyl over the hard shell keep water from getting to the seems and leaking.
i honestly didn't even know there was a hard shell under the vinyl until about 4 days after i got the truck.
i was pretty surprised, it will hold some weight, but i wouldn't put much up there. i just set my bow and hunting clothes on it when changing before and after hunting, it is great.

Dont forget about the Bakflip G2. Most people want the mx4 so you dont have to open the lid before closing the tailgate, but i was able to get the g2 for a good amount less than the mx4 (i think it was around $150 less). It becomes nature to just open the lid before closing the tail gate.

I have a BakFlip MK4. I recently installed the cover and factory bed rails. Its a good cover and they made some improvements to the design.

+1 I too have the MX4. I was in a 4 Wheel Parts store and they had a display of about 6 different manufacturers/models. After talking to the guys that worked there, I decided to go with the BakFlip. I am glad I did.. It has been excellent.. It will set you back about $900 though.. In the long term you will probably be happy you spent it.

I did the same. I’ll shut the tailgate first to save $150. No big deal to me.

I think there is a difference in construction materials between the G2 and the MX4 as well.. The MX4 is beefier - it can shoulder 400lbs vs 200lbs for the G2, and the has a 3 year warranty versus 2. I think they are both excellent covers.

To answer your question.. Here is some real world info.. As luck would have it, it is storming here (I am 60 miles north of Dallas).. I just drove the 30 miles home from my office in the rains.. Once I saw your post, I went outside, opened the tailgate and took two pics where I could see any drops of water. What is interesting is the trail of water on the posts of the bed indicate it could have leaked more at the vertical edges of the tailgate.. Either way, its a non-issue in my mind..

I have minimal amount of rain to get inside the bed. Like you said none are completely water proof. I am very satisfied with mine.

I researched Tonneau covers for 3-4 weeks. I ended up buying the Gator Evo. For the price (about 1/2 what everyone else charges), I couldn't understand why it wasn't more popular. There were no negative reviews...hell, there were no reviews at all. Despite the absence of reviews/feedback on here, I decided to take a chance. I'm thrilled that I did. For $450 shipped (it was on sale), I got a very low-profile, tight fitting, easy to install, folding hard-cover. I've had it for about 3 months and couldn't be happier with it. I wash and rinse my truck with a 1700psi pressure washer. Even with high-pressure water, the only leaks I have are small ones in the tailgate area (almost identical to the leaks shown in post #20). I have zero complaints with the Evo. It literally meets every requirement that I have.

Firestone Airbags; remote starter; replaced stock mirrors with larger, pull-out mirrors for towing; hard plastic sectional cover for bed.
Have you researched the quad-fold cover "Fold-a-Cover"? My Toyota dealer sells and installs them and I love mine because:

    1) Locks on both the top and bottom so you can throw things into the bed from either.
    2) While doesn't claim to be waterproof, I've never had any rain or snow leak into the bed even in heavy rainstorms. (We store lots of gear in the bed when we are out camping.)
    3) Thick, hard black p;astic/composite but not too heavy if you need to remove the entire thing. (Just a few bolts to remove)
    4) You can drive around with one, two, or three of the sections opened...the wind isn't strong enough to move them.

The only negative thing about the thing is that the installers had to cut a few inches off the very top of the bed liner in the front of the bed (under the cab window) in order to mount the brackets. (But you can't see it because it's underneath the cover)
