I purchased an 18 SR5 w/ TRD Off Road package and have been searching and floundering through many threads trying to determine the precise differences b/w my suspension and the TRD Pro suspension. Being a rookie, my head is swimming in lifts, shackles, UCAS, Bilsteins, Foxes, Kings, sway bars....:annoyed:

My apologies for being new to this...can anyone help?

The suspension difference is: the pro sits 2" higher in front and has different, far better, bilstein bypass shocks.

Welcome from Arizona. The '18 TRD Off Road trucks come with Bilstein shocks, pretty sure that they're 4600s. Previous year Pro's came with upgraded Bilstein shocks built for the Tundra. This years Pro isn't out yet but it is supposed to come with Fox shocks.

If you haven't seen it yet, this thread - https://www.tundras.com/threads/guide-different-types-of-lifts.546/ has a lot of good info on the different types of lifts and suspension options.

Shocks? Better shocks front and back? So, if I want a Pro suspension, I just buy new shocks? That's it?

That's not the only difference that marks the pro. That's just the suspension difference. Pro has stamped bed sides, different grille, some different interior touches. But as far as the suspension goes, yep, you can throw some Pro shocks on your truck and have the same ride as the Pro. But, as mentioned, in about 6 months the new Pro will be sporting New Fox shocks that might be better than the Bilstein. At least easier to rebuild.

So, the 2" diff in front is just from the different shocks....

Shocks don't lift, so I think it must be the springs that accompany the shocks that are actually lifting the front.

I believe the rear sway bar is more of a street n highway performance product..it's helps keeping the rear end stable and flat and not lean over... if you plan to do lots of off roading it's not a thing to have from what I've heard.. you can also remove the front one as well give your front end more articulation...avoid a spacer lift...not good for off roading...it's more a mall crawler IMO...believe the TRD PRO shocks give 2" of lift...UCAs there a plethora of em but it all depends on how your gonna use your truck as well do some research on em or check the search area on here I'm sure there is a thread on em...far as shocks you should be good with Bilsteins... IMO I wouldn't spend money on Fox or Kings unless you Baja Run a lot

The differences is looks, performance and price, the pro shocks give 2" lift and are stupid expensive and I think are not rebuildable. I have kings and removed my front sway bar and it rides great, i had a rear sway bar but I love offroading and took that off too. If youre a mall crawler leave the stock shocks on, if you want to lift it a little its better to get an adjustable shock depending on budget, cheap but still performs better is the 6112's. If you go offroad forget sway bars and get kings, fox, icon or ADS, if youre gonna level it you dont need UCA's right away unless your alignment is shit.

Auto show was in Dallas last weekend and write up in the Morning News stated that the 2018 Sport TRD had a 2" front lift and upgrade shocks. I know the shocks are different but I think they are wrong on the lift part. Also not sure there is a Sport TRD.

This will be a street vehicle with limited "off road" use (mainly public land "roads" - worst would be logging roads) - no serious off roading. I had heard that the Pro suspension was a little better on and off road - that's my interest.

I replaced the stock OEM shocks on my 2016 Platinum with the TRD PRO shocks. It does ride smoother and softer than the original shocks in that they absorb the bumps much better. One person I talked to before I ordered them told me it was like having the ride of an Escalade. Probably a bit of exaggeration, but definitely better, less stiff ride. I drove on some gravel and dirt roads recently; much smoother.

Now as far as the 2" front lift...yes, the springs that come with the front shocks raise it up 2". In fact, I measured all 4 wheels from center of the wheel to fender and fender to ground; all 4 wheels are now exactly level where before, they were all different: front to back and side to side. I ordered them from Toyota of Cool Springs when they had discount shipping had my dealer install them and then align the front end.

I was not after "leveling" or "lifting" but wanted a "better" ride. Figuring out what "better" means is like asking about opinions on muffler sound...and there are so many options. The TRD PRO shocks are pricey, but it is well worth it in my opinion.

I'm no help here, but I gotta say "nice rack!" I love the profile picture. I've killed a cow and small bull in Maine...nothing like that! Have you posted any of your pictures in the hunting section?

The pro shocks are "sort of" rebuildable, you just have to send 'em back to Bilstein. Yeah, that's convenient. I read somewhere about someone doing it themselves but that obviously isn't gonna work for most of us. They're definitely NOT like having Kings where it's way easier and way more adjustable in terms of valving and you probably get your truck back the same or next day.

Yes and no. All depends on what you get. They've got an option for fine tuning compression rates, that adds $300 front and $300 rear. They're also height adjustable, you can set them for between 2-3" of lift in the front. They can be easily "custom" valved, you can select different spring rates from 600 lb to 700 lb.
They can be comparable in both price and performance but have A LOT more flexibility in terms of customizing 'em. Definitely worth looking into.

I don't have Kings BTW. I went with ADS. But @Samoan Thor could tell you a lot more about 'em, and how much he loves Pro Comp wheels. I get the feeling he puts his Kings to the test.
