Trd swaybar install ?

Got my sway bar installed today. Big difference in taking corners (especially bumpy one). Just entering and exiting parking lots over the drainage curbs makes a huge difference. Very happy with how it make my truck handle. No more rocking back and forth on or rough, curvy roads.

 

My subtle white truck has just become better handling. So with dap tune, air bags, and sway bar, it feels like a whole new truck!

 

From watching the threads I just assumed the way to go was the trd pro sway bar....are there other brands people recommend or is that the way to go

 

There is another brand called Hellwig, but it seems that most opt for the TRD. Hellwig is a little more expensive from what I have found. Toyota of Cool Springs had the best price for TRD with $233 delivered.

It was $215 + $20 shipping and I found a 10% coupon by google-ing around. It didn’t take 10% off but took a few bucks off.

Hellwig is made in my home town but they are expensive but it's real good quality

 

I had a Hellwig on my 02 ram. Very well-made.

 

Ok so I got the bar at 259-25 ....234.... after telling the dealership they were nuts trying to get me for an hour of labor they offered to install for 60....I’m debating on whether I want to bust a knuckle for 60

 

install is easy but you need few tools and grease and maybe 45 min of your time.

 

Yeah, the installation was easy with the truck on the ramps. The grease should come in the box. Breaker bar and torque wrench are needed. I think 48ftlb and 84ftlb and then retorque everything after 500-1000 miles.

 

fantastic mod , one of the first things I did and love it ! Keep thinking about upgrading the front .....

 

So does installing a rear TRD sway bar on a stock Crewcab SR5 affect the ride height, meaning does it lower or raise it? Also, can installing a rear TRD sway bar be done without installing a front TRD sway bar?

 

the rear bar does not alter ride height and you do not need the front to do the rear bar. One of the best mods to my truck!!

I was trying to figure out what tools I needed before asking on here but I could not find everything. Obviously I need a torque wrench, but some sockets are needed too, what size? Can anyone advise as to what other tools may be helpful and/or required for this installation? Thanks!

 

1/2 drive socket wrench, 19 & 22mm socket, 19mm wrench. Torque wrench. And something to help you hold the weight of the sway bar up when mounting.

 

can you install one of these if you have say 1"-2" of rear lift ?

 

one inch probably but i don't think a 2" would be okay. the effectiveness of the sway bar looses efficiency when you change the geometry of it. Vendors don't typically recommend it beyond a 1" rear lift.

 

I have a 2" leaf block in and it does not make a much difference in operations of the bar.

 

K, i was just curious, think when i am done it will be b/w 1"-1.5".

cool! i like the fact that the clearance behind the axle is better too. on the sway bar that is. Where the end links and the bar meet up it it looks to be more level with the axle than mine without a lift. mine hang a couple inches lower than the axle. This is encouraging. looks like at full extension they will rise up close to if not level with the leaf spring. that will keep it from being as much of a drag point offroad.

 

I have seen a picture of a TRD sway bar that was mounted to the axle by turning the axle bar mounts 1/4 turn to the rear for clearance protection.

 

Do you have that picture for reference, or do you think you can find it?

 

It was in a previous thread about sway bars, i can take a look.

 

I wasn't the one who posted in the previous thread, but here's mine. I had to turn it that way to push it out so it would clear leafs during full droop.

 

Installed today with the help of my father in law, he had more tools than me.

Definitely a noticeable difference riding around the block. I will update once I hit the freeways but I am pretty excited about this.

Update: awesome addition to the truck. Drive home on the 405 this afternoon/evening and it handled great. You definitely notice the tighter turns for when you are entering and exiting off ramps. I really wanted to see how the bed bounce was on a specific section on the 405 that I posted about a while ago but since we were driving only 10mph through that section it didn’t get tested. Overall, as long as you gotcha the tools(or a friend with the tools) I think this addition is something that will benefit the truck for its longevity. It’s really awesome and very easy to install.
