At 60K I had my previous dealership change the diff oil in my LSD rear end. It got to shuddering when turning left from a stop, and my new mechanic put ears on the wheels and found the noise was coming from the diff. After looking at the info on the service tag, they found they didn't put the called for additive in it. They did that, and the noise/vibration went away. Now after about 3K it's back. Am I looking at a rebuild? Gear damage perm?
    Thanks!!!!

Sounds like damage to me, does it sound like the gears are “slapping” together? Especially when making turns? Any posi rear requires a friction modifier additive or posi lube as us old guys call it. If it wasn’t added and you put 3k on it the damage is probably done unfortunately. If it was done at the dealer and is documented you should be covered IMO.

Welcome from AZ. With the LSD you need the additive and from what I have read you have to use a certain type of oil like a non synthetic oil or synthetic oil.

Unless you have an aftermarket differential you don't have an LSD.
Limited slip in the Tundra is simulated by using brakes on the rear wheels to control wheel spin.

That's what I seem to remember. At least I remember the salesman telling me something like that.

    Flux capacitor!
Glad to hear you got some resolution to this. If you happen to have an Auburn LSD. I called them when I had mine done and they recommended 80-90 Weight oil with additive.

Had a factory LSD in my Superduty. Changed diff oil and added the recommended amount of the additive. After driving around for 15-20 minutes I noticed slight chatter in parking lots and slow speed turns. Pulled the fill cap, let a little oil drain out, and added 2 more ounces of the additive. Never had another issue.

They can be pretty finicky about the type of oil, type of additive, and amount of additive. I wouldn't say the damage has been done, but you should get it checked out. Chances are a fluid change and replace with correct oil/additive will do the trick.

Thanks to all who posted, after 3 calls to the Toyota help line, the results were disappointing. They couldn't get the dealership to return their calls, nor did the dealer return mine. surprise. Toyota told me they couldn't force the dealer to step up even though it was their fault, suggested BBB, social media etc. So, my calls to Toyota were basically wasted. Just thought I'd let everyone know in case they had any issues.
    Aggravated.....
