Package arrived today with some things from Crutchfield, including my new sub. Im hoping to have my custom box done and shipped to me next week. Im dying to get this thing installed.

I was able to run a dedicated ground for the Alpine amp this afternoon along with one last set of RCAs. I was running Y-Adapters for the front/rear speakers. Everything is on its dedicated lines to the head unit now for tuning.

I keep trying to lie to myself - im just not happy with these speakers. Im going to do some research and order some new speakers from crutchfield since they have a 60 day money back guarantee. That way im not pissing away money like I just did on these hertz speakers...

Some songs they sound great, and then the next song they sound worse than stock. There are just certain areas in the mid range that they cant handle without distortion. Its my gain on my amp isnt the reasoning.

Im also honestly not so sure im a component guy. Might go with a good ol' 2 way speaker. Need to think about it more.

I'm happy with my JL C5-650's (front) and C2-650's (rear)

Im leaning this way honestly. I've always been a fan of JL, thats why I went that route on my new sub. Did they require alot of tuning to sound good? Mind if I ask what your HPF are set at?

That looks very good! I really dislike the OEM unit, but hate to give up the back up camera.

I retained the backup camera with this unit. With a quick setting I was able to make it automatically pop on when in reverse just like from the factory.

Not much tuning at all. I left the FIX flat (after calibration), left the crossovers at 0db, and have the front/rears at 70hz and the sub at 50hz.

Thanks brotha. Thats a hefty chunk of change, but now im so pissed about the distortion of my speakers that Im willing to pretty much pay whatever to have crystal clear sound. Might have to buy them...

My mids are just really nasty sounding. Crackly. Just sound like a cheap speaker. Its not too much power either, they're just not clear. I tuned my amp.

They're all EFX and they seem to crack together but im trying to pinpoint. I did just read some and right now I have the amp set at HPF and im also tuning from my HU. Sounds like if im going to tune from the HU, I should turn the amp to a "FULL" signal. Thoughts?

Well, I woke up and said screw it. Ordered the JL Audio C2-650x's for the rear doors. I'll start there and see what I think. They'll replace the crappy Hertz DSK's. This might get me to a place where im happy. I didnt want components for the rear, thats why I opted for the X's and not the regular C2-650's.

Im ordering everything from Crutchfield from here on out. The extra 10% over other sites is worth the quick shipping and easy return policy if im not happy with them.

Are all your speakers sounding like the same crap? Might be a little work, but you could eliminate the amp and run the speakers off the head unit to see if it still sounds like poop.

Did you hook up your head unit yourself? All the connections are there at the factory amplifier location, you would have to jumper them to bypass your amp.

What exactly do the speakers sound like and what are the settings on your amp? are they cracking, are they distorting? How high is the volume when it sounds like crap?

Try this: I would flatten your eq on the head unit, set your hpf to 70hz on the amp and the gain at half way, see what it sounds like.

I’m getting shitty crackling sound from the tweeters now too. Nothing changes when moving RCAs at the Amp. No clue what to do now.

I think I’m going to start by ordering the JL C5-650s from Crutchfield. If they still sound like crap, I’ll send them back and I’ll at least have narrowed down my issue to wiring or the Amp.

Are you sitting still when you hear the crackling? Is the crackling sound coming from both sides?

Speakers are cutting out after I go over a certain volume. Amp is going into protect mode. Ground is good so the only thing I can think of is that I robbed it of the power it needs by splitting the power to both amps.

Lots of learning happening with this build!

My ride today has me thinking maybe its the quality of the music im streaming. I was listening to Pandora and there were a few songs that sounded absolutely incredible. I wouldn't change a damn thing.

Then I switch to Spotify and I get that back round noise and crappy mid range. I have the settings all set to play the highest quality music, but maybe its not good enough for my ear now. Or at least RIGHT now.

I might play some cd's for the next week or so to make sure im playing good quality music. I'll make a decision on changing the front components after this week. I was VERY happy with some of the songs I streamed from Pandora tonight.

Was fine until I split the 4 gauge power source at the distribution block to two different amps w/ 8 gauge wire
