What's the difference between these two cam shaft sensors on 2005 tundra 4.7 old one on left and the one I just bought and can I install the new one just the way it is even with that metal strip on it?

I assume that's just a shipping bracket to protect the sensor.

ya but is it for sure ..cause the parts man read to me over the phone something saying not to remove it...so im going their tomorrow and see what he was looking at ..but are you guy sure ..why would they drill two holes and use metal and not plastic a bigger and heavier part?.if it was just to protect it ?

Expensive part to protect. I would assume the metal would not let the sensor read right.

2995 ? I would assume by then that all bugs would have been fixed by then. :bananadance:

I would leave it on. It's a heat sink, not a shipping bracket. LOL.

I do not have experience with the part or actual knowledge of what the added part is. I made a guess or assumption based on observation. One its covering the front of the sensor. Two the screws look to be cheap zinc coated. Three it appears the metal is painted. Four the original doesn't have it. If it's really supposed to be there installed with it I would be surprised.

My local Toyota dealer will price match so I have been getting all my parts there instead of advanced or auto zone. That way I no I have what I need. Might want to check into that.

Typically camshaft sensors biggest cause of failure is excessive heat thus a heat sink is used on this particular sensor for good reason. Most sensors that are exposed to high heat for long periods like oxygen sensors also have higher failure rates. I see the same thing everyday in electronics, especially RF. Heat sinks provide two things : dissipating/deflecting heat and also in this case shielding a critical sensor from excessive heat to prevent premature failure. Heat sinks to not need to be made of titanium and chrome moly screw fasteners . The vast majority of heat sinks are in fact made of aluminum due to it's heat dissipation coefficient and almost always have a heat resistive coating (looks like paint). It's certainly possible it is something else, but many current shunts utilize the same sink strap design that is on this sensor.

Crazy. Glad you got it figured out. I probably would have mistakenly taken the strap off.
