Anyone go from aftermarket wheels back to stock and why?

I've noticed a few people switching back from aftermarket wheels to stock TRD wheels or to a set of PRO wheels. Is there any reason for this I'm just curious.

I did. Was more about bigger tires feeling too heavy.

Also not wild about the look of 25 offset either. Looks good from side and 3/4 angle but head on not so hot. The TRD wheels are not bad looking at all.

I personally think the TRD wheels are some of the best looking wheels for the Tundra.

Is it common for aftermarket to have that much offset? Also, you went back because of the tire weight? Did you go back to stock tire?

There are all kinds of aftermarket rims with various offsets. Positive and Negative.

I’m in the dark with this offset stuff. I’ll have to educate myself. I’m guessing positive offset pushes the wheel out?

    ZERO OFFSET
The hub mounting surface is even with the centerline of the wheel (dashed line to left).

    POSITIVE
The hub mounting surface is toward the front or “wheel side” of the wheel. Positive offset wheels are generally found on front wheel drive cars and newer rear drive cars. An example of a positive offset wheel is the Polaris RZR 1000 which comes stock with a +38mm offset. Higher offsets restrict design and leave the wheel looking flat, with little to no depth in spoke design/lip.

    NEGATIVE
The hub mounting surface is toward the back or brake side of the wheel. “Deep dish” wheels are typically a negative offset and benefit the design process by allowing sharp angles, deep spokes and incredible layering.

My FN BFD rims have a +12mm offset. Seems to be just about right for my setup. Depends also on your tire size too.... oh...and lift...

Thanks! Based on that picture I would say the negative offset would push the wheel/tire out more?

I have a set of Ray 10s that will hopefully be here this month. I will try them out and see if I like the offset (my biggest concern). I really wanted Pro wheels but could never find any locally or priced well enough to allow shipping. If my Ray10s are not working for me, I will sell them on here in less than a day I'm sure ;)

Ray 10s are great looking wheels, I actually emailed them inquiring about 18's for Tundras, apparently they are enroute but all spoken for. I will be selling my PRO wheels to finance Ray 10s or other comparable. Would you happen to know how much each of these wheels weigh?

I like the way my OE wheels look. I also like that they're mostly tucked in under the wheel wells and that weight will be more properly balanced on the wheel bearings with stock wheels. I also like that I can find stock wheels for relatively cheap if I mash mine up off-road.

Stock wheels are +60 offset. The more negative, the more it sticks out. So a +25 offset will stick out 35mm more than a stock wheel. Also, if the new wheel is 9” wide, since it’s an inch wider than stock, half of that width will also add to how much it sticks out further than stock. (The other half goes to the inside)
