its pretty easy guys you probably take more time washing your truck the what it takes to do this mod.the buttons don't look blue like they are in person

How did you exactly remove the knobs?

 

My unit arrived yesterday!!!! Ordered on Oct 29th received on Dec 1st. Non-Express shipping took 33 days. I was part of the group buy with order number XX26.
The packaging was not in bad shape. It had a few rough edges on the box but the HU was undamaged as far as I can tell. Today is the install.

 

I downloaded the IGO USA promo apk on from the HU where does it go from there haven’t used an android product in years

 

They are 2 piece knobs but pull off together no trick just gripped the silver knob and pull. Again when putting them back on put the silver knob on first by lightly making contact with post rotating till you feel it align then push on then insert the middle button

 

You plug into one of the usb ports and it should auto download

 

Why don't you just download IGO from the Play Store? It will give the option for North America/USA.

 

Well I jumped into the LED project. The buttons with the blue tape was simple. And now I am messing with the acrylic rings and while I was cutting them and sanding I thought why not use a blue sharpie over the leds so I did it to one knob a day waiting to see how it looks at night.

 

Did you cut those yourself? The guy I ordered from cut them to size outer and inner no charge

 

From the unit it self? I downloaded from google on the unit not to a usb drive.

 

I tried but it’s only a trial and not paying $40 for IGO lol so I tried the apk it sent it to downloads but not sure what to d from there

 

I haven't tried from the HU but if you do it from a flash drive I found I doesn't work if you download it from Google only internet explorer

 

I am cutting myself.. Where did you order from.. What size did you go.

 

39mm outside 22mm inside outside fits great inside needs just very little material removed on inside evenly with half round file. So it can freely slide on center post.
That's too much work to cut it yourself i wouldn't even do that. here is what they look like after he cuts them

 

It has been a pain but I got them.. Just have to get some fine sandpaper and touch them up a little.

 

Where did you plug your headrest tvs into?

 

The video out on the back of the harness does not work like that. You have to have an external DVD or media player hooked up to the video inputs then it passes through to video out. That's why I sold mine. I wanted whatever is on the screen to be on the headrest tv's like directv netflix and such, but it doesn't work like that. I sent numerous emails to them and they told me that. I tried everything to get it to work.

So since I was already using a media player for my headrest tvs, I can hook that up to the android unit? Which plugs will I be using to get this done?

That’s the HVAC control wire. Goes into the white connector just to the right.

 

Well the installation is complete. I went through the entire thread and prepared. (I will post my notes later today)

I installed the black tape (gorilla tape) to block the side light bleed through. (Reference Post number inserted here later)

I used plain old blue electrical tape over the button led's. It made them less bright but I like that. I am looking for a glow vs brightness.

I put the GPS sensor under the center dash speaker grill. It may not stay there because it really does not fit well and causes one corner of the grill to want to pop up occasionally. (A later refinement)

I plugged in all the wires and secured them along with the orange box ON TOP of the HU housing. That is because when you physically install the HU it sits just above the mounting brace of the old unit and there is no room.

Also for the OBD connector routing there is a direct path from my center speaker (where GPS is installed) down through the dash to the plug under the wheel. I did not have to try and snake it around any panels. You want to pop the speaker grill up then get on the floor and look up through the dash and you will see the path easier.

I did have one issue on fit. The two tabs on top of the unit would not snap in because of two screws on the HU not having enough clearance with a piece of trim. I used a razor to cut notches in the trim so the screws would not rub. Very easy because the plastic is kind of soft. There is a post about this. (I will find number and insert it here.)

After installation I replaced my center console cover and fired it up. Everything worked!!! I have an SR5 and the HU was already set in the TANTU LOW configuration. My HVAC worked perfectly as well.

The audio sound is WAY better than stock. BT audio is much better as well.

Now I got to get those acrylic rings to install around the knobs. Those LED's are blinding! I am thinking of getting the non transparent rings because I really don't need the "HALO " effect. The center LED would be enough for me.

All in all a very good decision. I am quite pleased so far. I am sure I will find some small things after the "New Toy Euphoria " wears off.
