I ordered OEM black badges for my front quarter panels and need to remove those (very) chrome badges. Any recommendations? I was thinking braided fishing like and a plastic spackle knife to pry them off?

I debadged my truck a few weekends ago. I used a heat gun and 30 lbs fishing line. I also used goo gone to get the rest of the residue off. I then gave the truck a wax job and it turned out pretty good.

@Agitated1 thank you dude! Much appreciated! I’ve been looking at rims, but seeing your truck in your picture sold me on OEM TRD. what’s that rack you got going over the bed?!

No problem!! I’m actually looking to get the SCS Ray 10 rims when they come out. As far as cover, I’ve got the Truck Covers USA American roll cover with the Yakima rails.

@Agitated1 looks great dude! I don’t bike too much but maybe a Yakima or Thule basket would be cool?! I think I just mentally spent another g!

Thanks man. When The bike rack is off I have a Yakima basket on. The mod bug gets pretty expensive. Lol. But it’s well worth it!!

I did exactly this and it turned out great. Took off the rear 4x4, pillar SR5, and side Tundra badges. I will eventually do the 5.7 badge too.

Use some really small braided fishing line, pull it towards the badge and in a sawing motion. It will cut the adhesive close to the badge, and leave a thick adhesive on the paint. You can just peel the adhesive off the paint with your fingers easy peasy. Then I used turtle wax adhesive remover. Super easy. No heat needed, takes 2 seconds.

I did this exactly, a few weeks ago. The "5.7L" badge is a pain due to all the adhesive. The "TUNDRA" and "Limited" badges came off easily. It should go pretty well if you heat it up enough. I would not go at it with a plastic trim or spackle tool of any sort. Fishing line (20 or 30 lbs), heat, a little patience and perseverance, and you will get the job done nicely. Go Gone is a must, then careful surface prep for new badges.

I used 30lb braided line as it didn't break like the monofilament did and I didn't heat anything. The fishing line cuts through the adhesive like butter once you get it going back and forth (friction generates heat). No chance of scratching the paint. There is enough adhesive left on the paint that I rolled it with my fingers and pulled it right off with no residue left. Wash, wax, and done.

Small tip, wrap the fishing line around a piece of plastic (cut a plastic coat hanger) to give you leverage and to minimize cuts on your fingers. It didn't bother my fingers but I could see where it would in some instances.

I should note that I did mine on a cool (50's) rainy day in Pennsylvania a few weeks ago. Probably not the smartest time to do this, so the heat gun made it a lot easier.

I will be doing this when I get the chance and have the time. I like blacked out lettering, but that iForce 5.7 giant rectangle has to go...

So I removed the SR5 emblems from my truck. Pretty cold here, but the first came off fine. The second one seemed to come off the same, but upon cleaning it up, it appears to have peeled the clear coat or something... Guess they may have to go back on to cover it.

    Everything. Literally.
Blow torch, crow bar and steel wool to get the residue off.

Or fishing line and goo gone if Danger isn’t your middle name.

I didn’t follow the rules of doing it in warm weather or with the heat applied. I thought that was just to make it easier, but maybe I was wrong. Eh worst case scenario I’ll just put them back on

You can also use WD40 to take off residue. I've used it on 20 of our fleet vehicles at my job.

So do you all think its still just crud from the adhesive? I can elbow grease that off if it's the case, but I really thought it looked like the clear coat had peeled

I'm not an expert. But in the photo, it looks to me that the clear coat had peeled. If it looks that way in person than, yeah....
