Why’d you get a new radiator? Is your old one leaking?

Found this yesterday while doing some maintenance IMG_0143.jpg
There was roughly 20-25 drops of pink spray inside the engine bay that alerted me immediately.

    System was about 4oz low.

In your experience do these rads continue to go slowly or is it just gonna fail catastrophically?

Shoot I think I’ve only ever seen like two tundras have leaky radiators at the shop, one being my own lol (which decided it didn’t want to leak anymore)

if it’s a small pinhole crack it’ll generally get worse overtime till it’s shooting the water out

Yours looks to be the seal at the body of the radiator and then the tank up top, that might stay gradual for awhile but 9/10 times it’ll always get worse

Ya I have been watching it very closely and installed a spray shield so it doesn’t decide to make a huge mess. Hasn’t leaked a drop that I’ve witnessed. Fingers crossed it can hold out til parts arrive.IMG_0145.jpg

Yeah you should be good, wouldn’t hurt to keep a gallon of water in the truck just in case

I just recently replaced my water pump with a Toyota OEM pump and it came with a gasket.

Edit: It’s a ‘16 though whoops wrong classroom haha! Should be same part# though I would assume 16100-09491

Awesome thank you. I will update when the parts arrive to what the word assembly means from Toyota on some of these parts

I do remember the thermostat housing assembly comes with a rubber gasket built into the flange on it so you should be good to go on that one too!

Actually looking back at these pictures I remember now the water pump came with the new gasket for the water pump and an o-ring for the thermostat housing. Also learned that it’s best to install all the bolts for the water pump and torque them first before installing the thermostat housing. There’s one water pump bolt that you can’t get to once the thermostat housing is in place. I had to take my thermostat housing back off and torque that last bolt then put it back on again. You can see the new gasket and part of the o-ring in the box on my cart.
