What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Yours is a 2000. In 2003 the electric rear slider was an option and the fog light switch was move from the dash to the left stalk on the steering column.

 

I finished insulating the bed today. I didn't take any pics, but I used some 1/8" 'hardboard' to cover the reflectix on the tail gate and bed floor, gorilla taped the reflectix to the bedsides and front, then covered with the bedrug. It came out pretty good. Hopefully it'll help keep me from freezing, like I did at both of the T2S's that I attended, while sleeping back there.

I also got the correct wire harness in the mail today for my A.R.E. topper, to power the dome light and brake light. Will be easy enough to tap into the driver side brake for power and to ground to chassis. I'm not sure where I should tap for dome light power, or if I should just run it to the battery.

Mine are tapped into the cargo switch.

 

So do they only get power when that switch is hit and/or the door open?
Do you just leave the dome light set to "on" at the cap?

Mine has a push button on the caps dome light.

 

Good points. Mine are only on when the cargo light circuit is powered so yes, that wouldn’t work for you. Maybe tap a fuse that is constant on? If you do go straight to the battery, you need to install an in-line fuse

 

Luckily the harness has an inline fuse for each power wire.

I might use an add-a-circuit to a fuse that has constant power then. I need to do that to power my compass mirror still anyways, but with a fuse that comes on with accessory.

 

Just make sure the fuse is as close to the battery as possible.

 

Why is that?

 

Well today, since I had my truck on a lift to do an oil change, I thought I'd finally chase the threads in the skid plate and side wings. After the tap treatment and new bolts, with a little anti-sieze they spin in like new. 25 years ago the free dealer oil change distorted the threads and overfilled the engine by 1 quart. First and last change at the dealership. Every 5 k by me since, but the bolts were getting worse every time, so today was the day to finally address the problem.

Today, towed the single axle trailer with a single axle trailer loaded on it!

Doing another odd job, this time trimming some low branches and cutting up three fallen trees for a neighbor. It's my old house so I needed to tow the equipment over there.

Single axle hauled the riding mower and a small, single axle cart my father welded up from scratch about 30 years ago.

Every tool I bought was used. Mower towed the cart that carried the chainsaw, pole saw, slate bar, wood blocks, hammer, cap wedges, reciprocating saw, tow chain with hooks, just the whole kit and kaboodle. Three times, the cart hauled the cut up logs to the burn pile.

Things went well....although I got a bit of tunnel vision and carried on my shoulder a log a bit heavier than I should have. What's worse, I tossed it over a small creek onto the burn pile......not a good idea! Calling massage therapist and maybe a chiropractor tomorrow!

Finished, loaded up, and headed home just as darkness fell. I didn't want to risk backing up into my old driveway at night so I went down the road to my favorite turn around spot. Managed to back through a 90 degree turn without the benefit of seeing anything out my side mirrors! (No streetlights there you see). I guess I've done this enough every week mowing down there I really can do it "blind."

I've decided though, had I had the diesel tractor to use, things would have gone a lot faster and safer without me torquing my old back injury. The Tundra could have pulled it and the 2-axle would have hauled it. I've decided to get the tractor serviced and buy the attachments it needs to make jobs like this a breeze.

 

run a switch to the light when you add a 12v adapter to the bed so you can charge your phone or run a fan while you sleep.

 

After some advice here, I bought a thread chase kit to do this same thing. My truck has non-OEM bolts holding the skid plate on, those threads may be in the same shape yours were in. Congrats.

I doubt I could take my Tundra to a shop for an oil change since I put the Valvomax Oil Drain System in. I doubt they could figure that thing out.

 

If you put the fuse up by the bed all that wire from there to the battery is unprotected. If it shorted out there'd be no fuse to stop it from burning the wire up, and possibly the truck with it.
