Hey, keep boosting til it blows. But wouldn't it be awesome if only someone could ever figure out a way to tune an engine for more torque in a truck than in a sports car or a luxury sedan.

That's more torque than anything made before the eco boost but alright.

ya, I hear you but your not going to get that out of "dinky" 5.0 without a charger or boost, the torque peak is just going to be higher, even the 5.7 peaks higher than the 3.4 by a decent amount.

if we are going back to NA V8, lets get that 6.2 or 6.7 Iforce V8 and not mess around.

ya, because low end torque in a truck is only about racing, you know better than that.

but yes, things do progress over time, more and more power is added and becomes the new expectations. When is the point of diminishing returns? IDK, I think the large diesel guys are still trying to find the top, lol.

Count me in!!!... when gas goes back to $1.00/gallon. No way Toyota ever goes this route. While there are plenty of vocal people here who claim to not care how much $ they spend on fuel, it is different out in the real world.

Easiest and most reliable way to get big torque at low RPMs - large displacement engines. Ask Rory Irish. No one that has to build their own torque monster machine is picking a v6 or a small block.

My old daily made around 1500lbs of torque haha. Was fun but not very practical. A blast though to launch in 4wd!

agreed. I would much prefer to own the hybrid powertrain that is currently installed in the Tundra. 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque is wow. I have seen some vids of this powertrain beating stock raptor. Granted wont smoke a Raptor R..but man its very impressive on what it has in stock form. I have 35s installed with a 3" lift from Dobinsons Racing..its fast and is very capable.

I don't think it's very fast, it just moves around real easy, handles grades no problem , elevation no problem and pulls trailers much easier than the old one. That's all thanks to the really low torque peak (2,400) and max lbs (479)

I have 0 interest in racing a truck , lol.

Where do the majority of blown engine start to fail, 20K miles, 30K?
I’m just short of 20K and getting nervous :(

Latest data showed half the failures have occurred over 50k miles. Some have been as low as a few hundred miles. Seems rather unpredictable.

Note some components from blown engine on bare floor at 3:13.
So many parts to keep track of!
This guy seems pretty competent, but do you think there are one, or more, of him at every dealership to do the job right?
    I doubt it!

:fingerscrossed:Keeping my fingers crossed. I can deal with them replacing my engine under warranty but not the time they would take to get parts and do it. I’ve heard of trucks being down for months. When my warranty is up it’s gone.

Im thinking the point of Diminishing returns is every engine in every 3rd Tundra made having to be replaced. Having to think about paying 25k to 35k out of warranty for the second and maybe 3rd motor is very likely to Diminish the return on the extra tourqe....

I like everything about the 3rd gen more than the 2nd gen except recall of the engines/ engine failuers. Dont get your 3.4turbo panties in a wad. I look here in this forum because im interested. I just wish the forums here didn't look like a Chevy forum with huge threads about engine replacements, time waiting for a new engine ect my unrecalled truck just blew its engine...

Sorry I think that when someone says let's make an engine thats 40% smaller but make it 17% to 32% more powerfull that always ends with problems.

Why couldn't have Toyota made a base motor like a newer verizion of the V8 4.7 or something like a newer design of a V8 and make the turbo the upgrade engine so we customers can have a choice? Then people like me who don't care about power that much can have a lower powered base truck. And you can have your top of the line twin turbo panty ripper offer truck. Then we could both be happy in our 3rd gen trucks....

    Ship sailed.

Toyota has spent a decade working toward global platforms to underpin all models across the globe to cut its costs going into the EV/hybrid paradigm shift . That means reducing one off engines and other systems. Not adding a new unique North American only engine that will sell in relatively small lots

Any new engine development going forward will incorporate batteries to some degree. Maybe even use a small ICE engine as a generator for electric power that turns the wheels like the Ramcharger will do.

since you seem to like panties so much , here’s why

the feds got their emissions panties tighter and Toyota had to make new panties so the panties will still work

Just enjoy your 2021 panties and roll on , it will run a long time, no need for new panties anyway

I cannot see how the overall cost to Toyota is cheaper for a rebuild than a crate engine. The build efficiency would be/should be significantly better in the factory. More raw material used in the crate engine, but I'd think the labor on the warranty reimbursement to the dealer would exceed that.

Yes seems very true. I sadly accept this.
    Just wish it was different.

Toyota can make a NA V8 or V6. There no law making them only use Twin Turbo V6's. Yea maybe they would pay a fine of $75 to $300 per truck if they couldn't hit epa targets but it's just a fine that costs less than one of the two turbos. GM, Ram, and Ford all make V8's and the laws say they can. I did read that Ram pays a couple hundred dollar fine on each truck, thats not alot of panties there.

keep in mind, toyota wants to wear very green panties, so they aren't going to pay fines to wear V8 size panties.

the current V8 panties they have are too small and don't provide enough low hip cut torque.
