I was able to find a kit and I’m getting it installed tomorrow. Using Dobinsons Springs instead of the spacers. I’m pretty stoked.

No they didn’t, you can buy a limited with the TRD skid plate. Your setup just isn’t correct. You’re missing the drop brackets, which people have removed to install the skid plate and to avoid rubbing on the sway bar. The issue is the binding and poor drivability that comes afterwards, most people put the drop brackets back on, I’m running the TRD skid plate with the 3in lift right now and my skid plate sits above my sway bar and it had to be trimmed. Look up tinkerer’s adventure on your tube, he goes into detail on how lifts work and limiting factor is the sway bar, which needs to be spaced to have correct articulation, Toyota has engineers figuring this out, you think they didn’t know all this?

Yes, for the lift to work correct and actually give you more articulation than stock, you need the drop brackets. Once you install them you’ll realize that the skid plate won’t fit anymore unless you put it above the sway bar. Toyota did this with the tundra trail hunter demo truck which is running the same drop brackets in the 3in lift. You can run whichever sway bar, the point is you can’t run the skid plate with the sway bar drop brackets that are provided in the kit. The TRD pro doesn’t have this issue because it’s using a different suspension setup that, instead of spacing the sway bar they opted to change the geometry altogether, you don’t have the full TRD pro suspension, for the kit to work correctly you need the drop brackets.

Do you happen to know the part number for these? Is it this 'stabilizer link' assembly that I'm attaching a screenshot of? Part numbers for that are PT983-34310: RH PT983-34320: LH

Links go at the end of the sway bar to attach to the lower control arm.

Are you needing the sway bar spacers?

I have no idea what a Toyota engineer knows as I haven't seen one respond in this thread and I haven't seen what you have, apparently. I appreciate you explaining it. Seems like a couple of people in this thread asked the question and got silence.... until I got provacative and confrontational which brought out the "akshuallys". Internet "Mavens" are definitely a thing. They repeat information they've read in other threads and then point back to them as proof. Easy to spot. Having true evidence and example that you posted here is, I think, something more tangible to pay attention to. Unfortunate that it took a challenge to draw it out.

In terms of decreased drivability, I guess for me it falls into the category of I don't know what I'm missing. This new truck without drop brackets is about 1000% more rigid and in control than my 2.5 gen. It doesn't feel sloppy at all. But it seems like something I should look more into. Thanks for a legit response.

Every single legitimate lift kit has some sort of sway bar drop setup, if you look at the fox and icon kits, they do include a sway bar drop spacer. Without it, the sway bar will bind up when you go to full lock and hit a bump or any suspension articulation. You also, generally speaking won’t have the actual amount of droop the kit was designed to give you. I had a third gen 4Runner that was lifted that had this exact issue even though all the suspension was new. It would pop and bind under certain situations. Someone posted another lift kit thread, in that thread people tried to remove the spacers and almost all of them ended up putting it back on because the truck doesn’t ride as nice. Also some people reported actually breaking the sway bar end links and wearing out the end link bushing prematurely without the drop brackets

Haven't had the chance to do the install yet (still waiting on one of the silver axles to get shipped - backordered), but I'd personally get all the bolts, nuts, etc. as I don't like to reuse them for suspension work. I'd also get the extended brake lines esp if you're planning on doing anything off pavement.

I've been able to source every component over the last 3 months except for the springs, they are impossible to find. Since I don't know anything about lifts, are there other springs I can use in place of the TRD ones?

I used Dobinson springs instead of the factory ones. They are awesome. Did away with the spacers too.

I see there are 2 different load ratings for the 3” lift springs. I don’t use my truck as a daily and do plan to use it for off-roading. Do you know which load spring I’d want and which one will best match the TRD lift kit?

I did C59-840R and C59-845VR. I’m a Hybrid 6.5’ bed crew max with a covert bumper and winch up front and shell and Decked in the bed.

You do realize you could've purchased the front shock assemblies with springs already installed.

No if I knew that I would've bought them that way.

Have any of you guys sold off your take off parts from doing the TRD lift kit? I’m trying to gauge how much these take off parts are worth.

Red Axles are in high demand. The rest of the stuff really isn't.

Why is that? And what’s a reasonable price for them?

Folks doing lifts on non-TRD Off-Road trucks and need the extra length.

    $400-$500.

I just looked on Toyota ASG website here at the dealer. It says "due to issue with Spring Compressor Install Tool, will either improve the tool or package the springs in a kit, decision not made yet." NOT sure when that was updated, but I don't remember seeing it before

So are you able to purchase all the parts separately? But just not in the kit?

I purchased all the parts but the front springs, the tie rod ends and the tie rod sleeves, which were not available for purchase.

Nobody is installing it. I think they are only doing it at the factory for now.

You can probably get a dealer to install it, as long as the dealer isn’t doing the front struts or spring install. Maybe have a 4x4 shop put the front shocks together (assuming you don’t buy the pre assembled ones) then take it all to a dealer
