Today I propped my topper up with four 6x4's on the bed rails, to set the thick front weather stripping. I'm still going to have to go back with a little silicone to get it air tight, but it's pretty good. I thought about double bubbling the sides, but the ARE goes over the bed rails and has a thin foam layer already. I did however, put bolts thru either side of the topper and bed rail, toward the tailgate. I noticed with the old topper and even up to 8 clamps, that the vibrations from offroading would spread the sides and make the gaps along the rear window wider. So I'm still using four clamps, but the bolts will prevent any shifting. Then I weather stripped the tailgate on the bottom and sides.
Next is to change the lock, but it's hot AF right now. So I'm chilling in the pool. Will finish up tonight, when it cools down.
Also going to vacuum, sweep, and wash the inside of the bed and topper tonight.

I offered this dude $80 but he hasn't answered, despite seeing my offer.

They're unobtanium I wouldn't fuck around. IMHO, that's a fair price he's asking considering the condition.

That said, you need to know that's from a DC, and the DC and AC units use a different sidewall carpet. The bases have the same part number IIRC, but the zip-up sidewall is a totally diff't part number.

No grabbing that I can see. Jacked it up and didn’t have a lot of play in the wheels either.

The only thing that I noticed was one of the rack bushings/rubber seemed to be torn, but that might be a future project since I’m not positive that’s causing the clunk at low speed turns and bumps. I feel like I can hear it in the front, but I’m going to try pb blast on the leafs and see if it goes away.

Good to know. He's had it listed for months and lowered the price once or twice. I been keeping an eye on it since it went up. So either it's sold and he never took it down, or he might be ready to take my low ball offer. Either way, I'd give em up to $120 for it, if he'd answer and wants to haggle.

Thank you for that write up. I had started to layout my wiring the same way but had to remove it because my daughter needed the truck before I could finish it. I'll be hooking the camera up to Master Tailgators rearview mirror instead of a new head unit. I already have that installed and just need to wire it up as well. Hopefully have it finished this weekend.

Tomorrow the truck will be getting new Cooper tires put on. Have to get it done before the rebate offer expires on the 31st.

@Dakillacore may be able to snap a pic of how it comes out of the harness tailgate*, and pop out the tail light really quickly to show a pic of the wiring as it comes out, with the grommet and whatnot. There's a little cubby in the tail light housing where we were able to neatly tuck the excess power wire into the housing, to prevent excess everywhere.

When I was chasing down a clunk/pop on my truck that sounds similar to yours I started with the sway bar (remove the links on each side, zip tied it up out of the way and drove for a few days). That didn't do it for me, but at least it narrowed the search. Glad it wasn't the sway bar, I didn't like the additional body roll w/o them connected. Next I went to spraying my leaf packs down, which seamed counter intuitive because the clunk-pop felt like it was up front or under my feet/driver seat almost. That worked for me, but only for a short time. Check your Leaf Spring Tip Insert/sliders/spacers. Mine were blown out or gone. I didn't replace them because I couldn't spread the leafs far enough apart to install new ones without breaking the packs apart... And the U-bolts are frozen forever in rust. I have a weird home brew bastard (heavy duty) leaf pack though. I took a putty knife and worked a shitload of red and tacky in there and she's been silent since. Just some ideas YMMV. Good luck

The clunking/popping in the front when braking and accelerating is usually the slip yoke on the front drive shaft. Try greasing your shaft.

There may be a DC owner out there who'll want the surround part of the carpet. Although you may also be able to trim it and have someone stitch the edge if you want it to fit in your truck?

I'm going to find out. I'm sure I'll be trimming it. Worse case scenario, I'll just screw it into the bed rails.

Bed is as squeaky clean as it's going to get now. Tail gate is sealed with weather stripping. I siliconed pennies over the four small holes in the bed sides. Bitch is pretty much water tight now. I can't wait to test out the insulation effect of the carpeted topper, bedrug, and weather stripped tailgate with winter.

Bro, you know they sell body plug kits like this and even this, right? I'm sure you could probably find similar in bulk on scAmazon in a variety of diameters.

If you ever put silicone on painted surfaces, make sure it's paint-safe. Some silicones (the ones that smell like vinegar) contain acetic acid which can contribute to and ultimately lead to rust when used on painted surfaces. Pick up "Neutral Cure Silicone", or opt for a butyl-based product to do the sealing. You'll want to avoid "Acetoxy Silicone" in favor of "Neutral Cure Silicone", basically.

But yeah, if you ever smell vinegary smells from your silicone, that's the red flag to trigger "Oh fuck, I shouldn't use this on my vehicle's paint!"

Thanks for attenting my TED Talk.

This only cost me the 4¢ and the silicone I had already bought yesterday. It's all bedlined, so I'm not worried about it. Going to bedline over the pennies tonight. Will be covered by the bed rug anyways.
    20250829_084809.jpg

I just gotta find a matching plug so I can run the dome light and brake light.
They are allusive. I found one but it's $26 shipped. I think I should be able to find em cheaper, but having some trouble.

    Ah! Bedliner helps to know.

But that hole also has a direct route (through another hole) into the tail light cavity which is a great place to Posi-tap off your brake light so your high-mount brake light on the cap works.

Shit, I hadn't thought about that. But I still need to find the matching plug. Either way I can easily pry the penny off.

Who is your cap manufacturer? It may be part of a kit, like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/326226675617

"ATS" (Auto Truck Accessories) and "TAG" (Truck Accessories Group) made a lot of these products, at least for Leer. In fact, TAG may've been a division of Leer, I really don't know.

You should be able to send a picture to any of the big three truck accessories websites that deal in campher shells and they can help you. Truck Outfitters Plus, Toppers & Trailers Plus, Truck'n'America, Master Craft.

You may be able to hit one of theirs and look at the wiring section to find it also, like here, at Master Craft: https://www.mastercrafttruckcaps.com/store/Electrical-&-Wire-Harnesses-c168936905

Oh, and just make sure you sleeve (either with fiber mesh or loom) any wire you're passing thru that hole. While you're safe(ish) on the bedliner'd hole, the hole that sits inside that, before you reach the tail light cavity, has square edges. So you need to protect any wires you pass thru it.

Thanks. I was having a time finding it the last few days. I guess I was calling it the wrong thing. The only place I had found it prior wanted $26. Thank to you, I found one on scamazon for $16. I just got a wait till mid September for it to ship for free. No biggie. I got plenty of other things I need to button up in the meantime between two trucks.

Hopefully the drive after flung all the excess away from your driveway . The pop definitely feels like its right under my feet.. I used some pb blast and I think it helped (didn't do a super thorough test). I ordered some of the Dorman inserts so hopefully that with some grease in between does the trick.
