I usually try to express myself using a minimal amount of profanity.
I have also found myself becoming a little more PC about using certain words that can be considered derogatory to certain groups.
There are usually other words that will do the job more or less equally.
This is not one of those times.

    That is fucking retarded.

    What's next?
Let me guess....paste flavored chips for kids that look back fondly on the Pre-K and Kindergarten days and miss taking a big old chomp off the Elmer's glue stick.

Just a quick follow up. Interview went fine, it was remote via teams so they came across kinda distant and robotic on their end. It was a pretty stark contrast to my own bombastic and energetic tone. I admit to being more of an extrovert compared your typical accountant type personalities. They just came across as really dry with no personality or at least didn't seem very engaging. It was with the Controller and HR Manager. Both women, controller was old and not hot and HR person was milfish...Sorry no pics.

Not sure if I'll be selected for the next round or not. I chatted with the recruiter after the interview and he said they tend to be pretty formal, which is fine. He said they usually let him know within 24 hours if they would like the candidate to come back for the next round.

Either way, I'm thankful for the opportunity regardless of outcome and it's good practice for my interview next week. It's always good to have options. In a perfect world, I would have two job offers to compare and contrast against.

In the end, it doesn't really matter since I am winning that Powerball jackpot come Saturday. Then I can buy that McMansion in Arizona and torment @Azblue for entertainment...

Wait a minute. It was via Teams and no screenshot?

If you win that powerball, I'd love to show up at your Mcmansion and help torment. I'd go play soccer in front of his house. LOL.

I pondered doing just that and then reason kicked in and I managed to summon an ounce of self control for once in my life.

I'm not kidding. I have this practical joker side of me that I can barely control.

Also, I am officially over my inflatable kayak. Time to nut up for a sit-on-top rotomold. It makes sence that the rack system for my Diamondback cover is going to be 2x the kayak cost right?

@AZBaldy I wish you the best of luck and hope you land the job that you said you were excited for. More than that, I hope it's as good as it seems.

Thought of you when I saw this.

Buy once, cry once. I need to get my fat ass out on my kayak. Didn't get to use it this year, and it's gonna get cold soon.

Thanks Adam. The job market is squishy. If I was willing to commute in to SF then there would be more opportunities but even in SF, it seems firms aren't expanding head count like they normally would in a healthy growing economy. I compared jobs I applied to 1 year back vs these last couple of months and the volume of openings has dropped massively.

If I received a solid job offer from the folks I interviewed with today, I would be thankful but still wait to see what the other place had to offer before deciding anything. I also wouldn't hesitate to sign the dotted line if they gave me the best offer as they are known for stability.

I wonder how much of accounting is going to be outsourced to bots. Computers are literal math machines, so anything that is basic and not requiring a gut feeling could probably be given to skynet to save the money that it costs to obtain and retain talented meat bags.

I can say a lot of AP functionality is being handled by systems like Ramp, where the invoices are literally scanned and coded by AI so you see a drop in account clerk level jobs but there will always be a need for the more technical aspects of Accounting and Finance which is what I specialize in. I'm not applying for or being hired to do the normal AR/AP stuff.

However, what you are seeing is the outsourcing of the entire accounting function to "3rd party consultants" similar to IT. You still need people who understand the industry, seasonality and underlying nature of the entity and consultants fall short there so it's mainly startups who are outsourcing their accounting because they can't afford staff.

Oh, for sure. The higher levels of it require that human gut and decision making, so they won't go anywhere anytime soon. I was just meaning in general.

For example, something like H&R Block tax prep could pretty readily be handled by AI if it were give the correct info. I don't see those performing the tax services having much job security once the older folks who distrust computers and prefer a human connection die off. Once it's all these youngsters who are so terrified of confrontation that they can't even make eye contact for more than 3 seconds, AI will rule that market.

I think ultimately, the professional workforce is falling to globalization and people are just being made into another commodity. Even if it isn't AI, it's being outsourced to some firm in India where you are paying significantly less than employees here.

What was done with IT, can be done to Accounting and even Engineering. It's all becoming a commodity.

You basically just have project managers and trouble shooters instead of a fully functioning onsite team.

The reality is that you can cut as many jobs as you want but at some point you will run out of people who can afford to buy the stuff you are trying to sell and the whole system collapses. Society will be buried in debt before we get there but it will happen eventually if we keep on the same trajectory.
