sucks, but it is what it is, good luck getting anything more out of toyota that isnt speculated to be BS anyways

only thing we can do is vote with our wallets, but this entire thing still doesnt make me want a ford, chevy , or ram more than a tundra.

Says the Forever Toyota Fan Boy. LOL!!

I honestly haven't shopped around much, but I have spent quite a bit of time in my buddy's 2023 Titan. It's superior to my Tundra in almost every measurable way, IMO. Appearance, ride quality, and fit and finish. I think he's had 1 minor recall and 0 warranty claims. Pretty sad when a discontinued truck is superior to Toyota's offering.

Sorry Matt, I don't like titans at all, just my .02, so we differ there, not even close to as nice as the tundra platinum IMO. Thats mute as they stopped making them anyways since they only sold like 5 a year, lol.

as far as toyota fan boy, I think not, I like them yes, but I shopped them last time in 2023, full test drives and also bought a ram in 2013.

The powerboost broke down on the test drive, the GMC AT4 refresh 6.2 AT4 rode like shit and the seats were so awful I ended the test earlier than scheduled. I didnt want another ram again, the tundra was clearly the best truck.

but, Id shop them again next time around too, I have Honda, Kia, Ford, Nissan, ram, Volkswagen , etc all in my company as well

Yeah, Im fine with agreeing to disagree on the new Titan.

My buddy's is the top of the line trim package, I don't know what it's called. But I always thought the 1794 was the nicest trim package of all trucks. I've had 3 of them now. That was until I sat in my buddy's Titan. Everything in that truck seems sturdier and tighter than the new plastic Tundras to me. His V8 is nice, and it pulls his 26' bay boat easier than mine with far less suspension squat. Side by side, I give the appearance nod to the Titan, as well. The ridiculously long nose and stupid mustache on the Gen3 has always bugged me. I thought it would grow on me, but it hasn't.

Anyway, appearance and fit/finish are subjective, obviously. What's not debatable is his Titan has been more dependable with less recalls and warranty claims. That's fact.

If you are THAT concerned, you should sell your truck immediately. Why doom say here about a truck you own, with grave safety concerns when the obvious answer is to sell your tundra?

Your Atlanta “crash ups” have nothing to do with the third gen Tundra.

I do agree with some of that, thats why I color matched the stash, now it looks good. Also, load leveling rear, I have 0 squat while towing.

I was never that impressed with the titan V8, it felt low on torque to me, I liked the yota 350 better as far as V8s go, and the GM 6.2 felt better than both when I drove it.

I can't believe the titan V8 out pulls a the 3.4 TT, not buying that, I think your just disgruntled, but that doesn't matter anyways, neither of us have one.

not being a jack hole at all, but if your so unhappy with your truck like you always talk about, why don't you just sell it and be done with it? get something you like, life is too short to have shit you don't like or irritates you.

    Things I don't like are

having to hit the tow/haul button after each fuel stop, hey toyota, just leave it on when I turn it on FFS.
Some of the plastic inside does need improvements, center console needs upgrading,
the door handle area needs to be more stout, needs an internal brace or something
the throttle lag, although I don't get it often, is kinda lame,
having to spend a bunch of money for a color match high level trim is lame (but I did it anyways, lol),.

this goes for every tundra Ive ever had, PUT THE FUCKING BASS OUT THE SUB, NOT THE FRONT DOORS SO THEY RATTLE, after 5 tundras, I thought I would be done with that, but noooooooooo.

and of course this engine blow up thing just needs to end FFS toyota, really?

My truck doesn't irritate me. I like it less than my previous Tundras. That's all. My truck isn't part of my identity, like some here. so I'm not emotional about it. I say it how I see it.

I've given praise where I feel it was deserved. They got some things right,IMO, but failed on others. Net downgrade for me.

    Not just Atlanta

Any metro area has the same issue of dangerous driving mixed with few full width emergency lanes to pull into.

It's not 1950s. More than half the country live in or commute to metro areas

As far as Toyota response based on my local dealer's wait list it will be 2-3 years until I get a new engine unless the original explodes. That is 5-6 years of risk exposure. That is way too long if Toyota cared so much about safety

I am not a Toyota fan boy. I have owned 12 makes in my life including 2 Toyotas and 1 Lexus. All have been mid grade among the 12 brands I have owned. The dealership and company response to issues has been in the bottom third.

As the guy posted above, my wife is in her 2nd Nissan. The first one was dead perfect over 10 years. The new one is flawless in fit and finish; year in I have not discovered a single flaw or had a single recall or warranty issue. Actually going back to the dealership for first time next week for service #1. I am at the Toyota dealer so much with this truck the elderly valet guy at service drop off with no memory cells that greets 100 people a day calls me by name

You are doing a lot of typing and not a lot of selling.

You’ve convinced me that your tundra is terrible.

Why are you keeping your tundra?

I can't speak for Fatone, but I'm keeping my Tundra because:

    1. I'm not sure there's a better 1/2 pickup alternative out there, right now.

    2. My Tundra has depreciated 30% in 2 years, based on trade-in values that I'm seeing. There's no way I'm going to take another depreciation hit like that on a new truck after only 2 years.

    3. If I bought a different brand truck, I wouldn't feel right hanging out with this bunch of misfits.

2023 1794's are selling for a bunch more than Titan XD's on Carmax. You could unload your ticking time bomb and not be out depreciation.

Have you actually driven one of the newly designed Titans with the V8?

In past years, I would have said the same as you. The Titan wasn't even in consideration for me. But, I feel Nissan did a better job with their new version of the Titan than Toyota did with the Tundra.

Had the Titan not been discontinued, I would have considered one.

I owned a Titan 5.7L, the engine was strong, the brakes and rear differential were not and it was a fuel pig. To remain competitive Nissan was going to have to do a major overhaul to the platform, new engines possibly EV. Considering it only sold 19K units in 2023, it wasn't worth the effort, and was being outsold by the Frontier anyway. Given the low sales, Nissan couldn't justify the investment. What they would have replaced it with wouldn't include the V8 anyway. You are fooling yourself because newer Titans are still plentiful and yet here you are with buyer's remorse flipping your lid over something that may never happen. If a potential out-of-warranty repair down the road is going to break your piggy bank you're in over your head with either one.

What’s the new version?? Titan has been around since the 2nd gen tundra. The most recent facelift? Yes. Rented a 2024 pro4x during a snowstorm in Des Moines. Did fine. Wouldn’t own one over a Tundra. Would pay $10k more for a Tundra honestly. I wouldn’t own anything from Nissan. New Frontier…….. not for me, but maybe. Probably not. Also, the Titan was discontinued. Any future titans are rumor mill at this point with CGI Armada faces on them.

LOL. Where have I flipped my lid, or claimed I have buyers remorse?

I know it's hard for some of you to accept that I'm not married to my Tundra, nor do I sleep with it. It's a tool to get me places and haul stuff, hopefully without blowing up, or requiring multiple trips to the dealership each year for warranty and recall issues. My piggy bank is doing fine, BTW.

Some of you act like I slapped your mother when I express any negative opinions about the Gen 3. The fact is my '23 has been the least reliable out of the 3 Tundras I've owned. In 2 years I've been back to the dealership for warranty and recalls more than I did with my previous Tundras over the combined 15 years that I owned them.

I had a 2005 titan and swore Nissan off for life as a result. It had literally every major component fail under warranty. Spent more time in the shop than on the road. But it was a beast…..the way the service manager explained it to me was that they made the engine too powerful for the components they put in the truck. I am not sure I believe that but the tundra has been far and away a much better vehicle in every sense. I realize mine was an ‘05 and may be an apples to oranges comparison….and now can fully appreciate those who swear off Toyotas because of the issues that they are having. It’s really too bad people are going through these issues and Toyota seems to still have issues with newer engines.

My Titan was a 2004, the first year newly introduced and the first truly full size truck from Japan. At that time, the Gen1 Tundra wasn't getting respect as full sized. The Titan righted those concerns but in a way it didn't because of its undersize pumpkin and warping front rotors. It was otherwise a decent truck with great features in the bed, including cleats on the floor. I've owned trucks from all the majors except Ram. I had a 1500 Silverado with 5.3L, 2500 Silverado with 6.6L Duramax and ZF-6spd manual, two Tacomas, one of which I still have with 215,000 miles, a F150 Platinum, (2) Ridgelines. There was good with all of them. I don't give a shit about reputational concerns of the legacy models that Matt is carping over. The only truck that matters is the one I bought because I liked it the best among the current offerings and more than all the previous Tundras that I passed over.

I think everyone on this forum is disappointed with the downgrade in quality control on the Tundra and the engine issues. The problem is we are seeing similar drops in QC across the board. So what is the better alternative for a full size truck?

I had a deposit on my 23 TRD Pro before it was delivered. When it was, the wipers would not turn off. Turns out a wire came out of the harness and was creating a ground. The fact that this was shipped from the factory like this shows the lack of QC as they churn these out. Not the Toyota quality one would expect. Also had the brake squeal fixed by TSB. Close to 20k miles and no other issues, rattles or complaints except the throttle hesitation, which does not happen often. The throttle hesitation is the thing that bothers me the most. It really could result in accidents.

Becoming the largest manufacturer in the world is not a good thing for consumers as it is difficult to keep top tier QC when you are churning more units out across the board (although Tundra sales have basically been flat since introduction in 2000).

Outside of the throttle issues, I'd say every facet of the truck is better than my 2013 Tundra. I know people love the 5.7 engine, but it is prone to a lot of issues, although it is still a good engine overall, but the 4.0 V6 and 4.7 V8s were both superior motors IMO. From air injection failures, valley leaks, cam tower leaks, early failure of water pumps, etc. I imagine a twin turbo engine will never be as reliable as a natural air aspirated engine, but the 5.7 is not the holy grail of engines by any means. I"ve had 4 vehicles (Tundra and Land Cruisers) with the 5.7 and have had all of the above problems.

Toyota is also becoming less consumer friendly. Shutting down Techstream, making copying key fobs yourself much more difficult with rolling codes only locksmiths can access (although many expensive key programmers can already bypass this, making any additional perceived security to be false).

Lesson 1 of Tundra forums: Do not ever criticize any aspect of the Tundra.

I own two now for work and really like them, but they are far from perfect. Just get flamed every time I say anything critical about them, they could explode and people would still say, " at least it's not a Ford!".

My two Ridglines 2017, 2020 were the Gen2 and problem free. They did have a few recalls for minor things like hood latch, factory tonneau cover, backup camera wiring in the tailgate. There were a few things missing and a couple of annoyances but positive experience with both. Matt has a ticking time bomb and needs a hug, it's gonna blow and take the others with it.

Mine actually is perfect, so far.

That would indeed be bad, a drivability concern. I haven't experienced this. I'd like to know more about the circumstances and what happened if you'd care to share.

As an aside, on my 2017 Ridgeline, from the left turn lane the yellow traffic light was going stale as I tried to follow the car in front through the turn. Just as the light turned red, the Ridgeline slammed on the brake as the car I was following continued on, flashing "BRAKE" leaving me stuck and alone in the middle of the intersection. It would not move for some period, 1-2 seconds, even with the throttle pinned I was stuck in the middle of that intersection as oncoming cars were approaching, and that "safety" feature delaying me from moving until it released. That never happened again, nor ever on the 2020. (Yes it was poor judgment on my part).
