I had most of the parts in my garage for this install -

A couple notes on my install (still waiting on hard lines so I mounted the cooler and ran the lines but have them zip tied out of the way until i get the additional parts).

    1. I have a 2019 with the old style TRD pro grill. The Jomax relocation kit for the sensor gets in the way of the hayden 689 / bracket.
    • I initially notched out a part of the bracket and cooler to accommodate interference from a mounting bolt of the Jomax relocation bracket. However, this caused the cooler to sit unvene and I wasn't happy with the look of it / worried about the function of it sitting not level......even though that was probably just my OCD.
    • I slept on it and decided to use a modified mending plate to extend the top hole of the bracket to allow for clearance which then only allowed for one mounting point to the cross member on the bottom of the bracket. I used a heavy duty zip tie secured through the other bottom bracket hole and cinched it tight to the cross member. This allowed me to level the cooler and be confident in the placement / install.
    2. I was going to run all rubber lines directly to the thermostat, but again my OCD kicked in. Figured if I was going through the trouble of installing this that I might as well spend the extra money and do it the right way (especially with the Fred Anderson parts sale still going on). So I have the hard lines on order and will install with the OEM thermostat and inlet / outlet hoses.

All in I probably have about $650 (includes oem thermostat, inlet/outlet hoses, clamps, JMUNK bracket, hayden cooler and I ordered 10 quarts of ATF to do a drain / fill) into this but after going to the mountains for the 4th weekend and monitoring transmission temps exceeding 250 degrees and smelling burning rubber (which I now believe to be the transmission oil) during a steep constant climb to the top of the mountain, I am convinced that I want / need this mod done asap to prolong the life of my truck.

Here is a picture of the original placement prior to modifying a mending plate to level the cooler:
    IMG_3050.jpg

Here it is after adding a mending plate to even things out:

I’ve cut and had powdercoated what will be the last batch for the foreseeable future. I’m extremely busy and might circle back to these brackets after I free up some time.

The remaining brackets I will sell for $95 shipped with the hardware kit and if you’d like AN fittings add $15. The feedback has been overwhelming great and a lot of people have installed them. The efficiency of the Hayden coolers have proven themselves and make them a great budget friendly DIY option.

This was the first time I believe that someone used the transmission cooler bracket along with the Jonas radar relocation bracket, seems they both want to occupy some of the same space. Looks great installed!

Yeah man nothing a little redneck engineering couldn’t fix! I hope to get it fully installed and hooked up tomorrow. Juts got the transmission fluid and hard lines delivered from Fred Anderson Toyota!!!

@Jmunk , @Tundra234 or anyone else ; I am tackling the rest of the install in the morning but realized the hard lines didn’t come with the the bolts. Does anyone know the size and pitch of the 2 bolts to secure the hard lines by chance?

@Jmunk Any possibility on your brackets working on the drivers side for the 07-10 trucks running in line with the factory cooler?

The front end looks to share the same mounting points on either side. Only point of concern I believe would be the ac lines.

I'd really like to be able to run both the factory cooler and an aftermarket one with a fan for slow speed wheeling. Temps can really spike in 4lo and the factory mechanical fan just doesn't pull enough air unfortunately.

Damn! I didn't know you were that close.....i may just have to drive down there and hire you to install mine. I mounted the cooler and ran the hoses, but trying to get under the truck to install the hardlines and thermostat / hoses proved an exercise in futility. After multiple back surgeries and injections, I just can't move around like I used to. I need to find someone with a lift to borrow for a couple hours or just hire someone to finish the install for me

Well I finally got everything installed and buttoned up. Woke up at 7am and went right to the garage. Took my time, when I got frustrated or my hands cramped from being in tight spaces I stopped. Just took a 20 mile trip to test out for leaks and there are none. Running the hard lines wasn’t as hard a I expected . Threading the bolts to the hangers were. I followed the instructions to a T and then followed the overflow plug / trans temp instructions. In the 20 miles I didn’t get over 160. I drove the same path I usually do to go to work and without the cooler I was consistently in the 210-215 range. Driving to the lake last weekend it got up to 240. We are going back to the lake in a couple weeks so I am anxious to see how it does then. I appreciate @Jmunk for the bracket and all in I think I was right around $650 with a few tools that I bought to make things easier……eventually I will do a complete drain and fill since I already have the fluid. Contemplating whether or not to reinstall the Rci skid plates (I listed them for sale). If they don’t seal in a few weeks by the time I do the drain and fill I will reinstall them I guess

Glad the install wasn’t too difficult. I’ve done so many that I can knock them out in a few hours. Everyone has had nothing but good things to say about the bracket and their temperatures post install. I’m a firm believer that lower fluid temperatures will help to extend the life of the transmission.

You were the one that needed to purchase bolts for hangers, correct???

Would you mind sharing what size they ended up being?? Also I don't have hangers within my kit, are they already on the mounting points or was that something you added as well??

Sorry for the questions, but I'm a couple of months out from getting mine knocked out!!!!

Don’t be sorry; happy to help. The hangers come premounted on the hard lines. They have holes that line up with threaded holes on the underside of the truck. I don’t know pitch and size but they are part number 90080-10400. You’ll need 2 of them

    Awesome thanks... :fistbump:

I was going to grab a couple of extra hose clamps from the dealer anyhow (as I am sure to mess one or two up in the process), so I'll add those bolts to the list.

You also mentioned a few tools that you purchased to make things 'easier', what did you end up grabbing in case it's not something I already have??

I pieced mine together as well (in lieu of using a kit) and was just thinking... what did you use for your (2) grommets where the soft lines pass through the cowl (near the actual cooler)??

Finally, any other advice or pointers you have that haven't already been covered in the videos and tips from others are always welcome as I'm old and not looking forward to contorting myself into weird positions to get some of those parts secured?? #needafriendwithaliftinhisgarage :D

if you have access to or can rent a lift it would have made my life so much easier. I weigh 230lbs and sliding on and out and maneuvering under the truck was a chore…..and after a few back surgeries, I am not nearly as flexible I used to be.

the tools that helped that I didn’t have were wobble extensions and pivot adapters for my socket, wrenches with the articulating heads and a tight space socket wrench (one with a flat head). Also get a standard depth 24mm socket - I only had a deep one and it wouldn’t fit to crack the fill bolt.

watch @Tundra234 ’s video on the install. He gives great advice and video.

Ok thanks... Looks like I should be good on the tools!!!

Yeah, closest 'rent a lift' to me is in WA, so that's a no go :( I was already thinking that one... plus could knock out my first drain n fill since I'll be at 30k and it's getting cracked open anyhow and level checked, etc, front and rear diffs, and transfer case service all at once and while I have the armor off.

But, my thought is I'll put it on my ramps which will give me another 6" (TWSS) clearance, do the install plus my first drain n fill; leave the armor off; drive it for a week or so; back on the ramps and double check for leaks; then knock out the diffs and transfer case on the second day and then button everything back up

    Awesome, thank you!!!

I just refreshed our PM from when I purchased the bracket from you back in January. Everything at the top of the PM thread is still the same...

Those would not have been in your original package, would they??? I didn't think that was part of what you included w/your bracket set up!!

Back when I first started I wasn’t including them, I’ve “beefed” up the hardware kit since.

Doing my 30k service and figured since I was doing a drain and refill I would update my very D.I.Y. Brackets. I also added a magnefine.

I am going to be attaching a camera bracket to the midline bracket for a FRAC not mounted to the plastic bumper. Because of this I decided to just place the horn on the rear end of bolt for the cooler bracket. Just flip the horn to the back, use the provided nut for the horn relocation bolt and it attaches neatly. I do imagine it will affect my horn sound, but I'm not too worried.

I also routed the hoses further into the space between the righthand headlight and windshield washer reservoir. I used 3/4 gardner clamps to allow the hoses to angle as they needed. This allows the hoses to have more gradual bends and a "straight away" where the magnefine can be placed.

Overall, I am very happy with the install and am glad it no longer looks "D.I.Y." I'm of the opinion a good looking job is a job done right.

Looks great, your hose routing and the use of the mounting points for the hose is solid. The filter is above-and-beyond, great job. I always enjoy seeing how everyone’s mind works different and new ideas keep being developed.
