What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Well hell... My ahv4000nex has the upload "button" greyed out so it won't let me add the images from my USB. Unless the shop that wired my 5 channel amp removed my bypass, I don't understand why it's greyed out. Unless my USB is the wrong format maybe? I know my old laptop wouldn't use this USB. But it's got both the normal size USB and the USB C, so I added the pics from my phone.

I guess I lost or forgot to install the USB cord for my avh601nex.

Chances are it's one of a couple things:

• The USB stick is formatted to NTFS and not FAT32 (if you normally use Windows) so the head unit can't read what's on removable storage
• The head unit hasn't recognized removable storage is inserter (i.e. the USB stick), possibly because of the previous point

Boot up your Windows PC (I know you're not a MAC guy).

Plug in the USB stick.

Open the File Explorer app, which is what you use to browse files on shit.

Find the USB stick and right-click on it, then choose Properties from the popup menu as you see below (1st image).

Look at how it's formatted (see 2nd image below), and if it's currently using NTFS filesystem, you'll need to right-click the disk again, choose the FORMAT option, and you should either choose to quick-format it to exFAT, or FAT32. Both are usually understood by most devices.

It's already exFAT.
exFAT2 isn't an option, just NTFS.

I'm thinking the guy that installed my amp unplugged the USB wire. Not worth messing with right now, or maybe ever, since I'm eventually going to upgrade the avh4000nex anyways. It's got the removable face and when I hit a big bump, the stereo restarts or just dies, until I turn the truck off and on again. Total PITA when off-roading or on a road trip. Not to mention the only reason I bought the 5 channel amp was because I fried the internal pioneer amp. When I installed the 20 foot premium audio bypass harness, one of the wires got caught on the floor trim and shorted out.

When the time comes to replace it, I'll be sure to use it's old USB wire for the avh601ex

 

That would be the other thing, if you're using a USB extension, then ... yeah, may be unplugged.

Wife started my Tundra the other day and it sounded horrible from the office, found my muffler split down the side seam after 25 years. Welded in a Flowmaster FlowFX today and absolutely love it. For the price it’s hard to beat!

I really wanted to get a Tundra in the Wild: 2 axle towing edition for you guys but I get to the jobsite and I'm all work and nothing else.
Maybe tomorrow.

We first pulled the 2 axle trailer and did one yard and then about half of the second. It was just too wet to get it all done and halfway through the second the wife left to teach a spin/yoga/whatever class and I didn't want to risk getting a mower stuck alone so we'll have to come back to that yard later in the week. Got to use 4wd Hi getting out of the second yard: ground was soft! That client's yard is basically a big field and prone to flooding. We had a ton of rain last week.

I came home, unhooked, and hooked up to the single axle trailer. Wife finished her class and we did two more yards.

I saw several mowing crews today but I don't think I've seen another Tundra pulling a mower trailer, certainly not a First Gen.

I’ve been watching fb marketplace and saw this one. I think it’s for AC though. But I will say from the pic that it looks a little short, so maybe it is for a DC? I’ll message him.

The truck is, for sure. But he's right it does look either an inch short, or maybe it's just pushed up too far against the cab and rubbing. You gonna go for it?

Just an FYI, I've found that the O'Reilly's pitman arm pullers are soft/weak. Get the autozone 'oem tools' ones, way more stout.

 

Hey Andrew, did you end up lowering your truck? I want to say we talked about it a while back and you were considering the 5100's instead of the 4600's recommended by SOS. You might've saw I recently made the swap to them on the front and had already been running 5100's on the rear with AALs. If you're still considering the SOS drop, feel free to ask me any questions or browse my build thread in my signature. Me and @Sirfive have had the rear suspension of my 03 configured in 4 different ways since installing the SOS kit, & the front in two ways.

I ended up trading a diff for some 5100's, so I do have them. Just haven't installed them. Like everything else, it's in the parts pile.

 

The rear 5100's fit perfectly with an AAL and the SOS 1/2" block.
The fronts will depend on the length of the coils. I had to set the snap ring to the second notch on 14" coils. I ended up ditching the front sway bar because it kept popping eventually, no matter what I tried. I'm really happy with it now with just the rear TRD sway bar.

Didn't you use DC coils which are shorter? Also did you epoxy them?



I'll be using my stock coils. Unless I find a deal on some 2883's. Or someone wants to trade their 2883's for my 2884's.

Yes to DC coils, for the higher spring rating. They were 14", while my AC coils were 14.5". I epoxied the drop perches to the 4600's. One of em took 30 seconds to a minute of high heat with heat gun and about three taps with a hammer to come off. The other just fell off. I didn't bother epoxying them to the 5100's. Seemed like an extra step that didn't make any difference, considering Bilstein spring perches sit loose on the rings anyways.

 

Wife's got a bad headache this morning and the week looks better weatherwise so we may take the day off or mostly off.

We've had (edit: four not three) mowers get stuck in the mud so far this year and two of those were in the same yard but opposite sides (the same yard we didn't finish yesterday due to the yard being wet).

Wish I had video of the Tundra pulling me out of Crackheadia last June. That "operation" involved blocking traffic both ways on a very busy road!

 

When I did my suspension I literally rented 5 or 6 press kits and a pickle fork. I think we used all but one of them.
