I found this (no year 2000).

    • Models and Years Affected:
      • One recall (NHTSA Campaign ID Number: 05V225000 / Toyota Recall Number: 50J) applied to certain 2002 through early 2004 Tundra and Sequoia vehicles.
      • Another recall (Special Service Campaign 70B) was issued for 2004 through early 2007 Sequoia and 2004 through late 2006 Tundra models.
      • A related recall (05V225000 / 50J) also included 2001-2004 Tacoma and 2001-2002 4Runner models in addition to the Tundras and Sequoias listed above.
    • Reason for Recall: The lower ball joints on the affected vehicles had a manufacturing issue where the surface of the ball may have been scratched, leading to excessive wear and looseness.
    • Consequences of Failure: This excessive wear could result in increased steering effort, reduced vehicle self-centering, noise in the front suspension, and potentially lead to the ball joint separating from the knuckle, causing a loss of steering control and a possible crash.
    • Recall Remedy: Toyota dealers were instructed to replace the front suspension lower ball joints free of charge.
    • Timing of Recalls: The first recall related to this issue was announced in May 2005, with the remedy expected to begin in July 2005. A subsequent recall occurred in January 2007.

I've got most of the tools, only need the puller. Problem is my garage is full of motorcycles and the driveway is full of projects. I hate working on vehicles parked on the street. Maybe I'll watch a video or two and see if I can't move some stuff around for an afternoon and knock it out.

Is it just me, or does this sort of parallel the 3rd gen engine failures. There’s a non-design related defect stated as the cause of failure (a scratch, leftover machining debris) to explain a likely design related failure (hanging ball joints, over stressed engine bearings from design / tune issues).

Hell, I can do that. For some reason I was thinking I needed to get a ball joint puller kit for removing the tie rods and that it would be a lot more work. The truck in that video has way more rust than mine. Gonna go ahead and order up a cheap kit from Amazon to have in hand, but will return it if I don't use it. Gonna try and knock it out tomorrow then.

Why when any auto parts store will loan it to you for free? (Leave deposit, get deposit back when returned)

I'll skip the kit then. There's a parts store walking distance from my place if I get stuck.

Just make sure you check it out before you leave. Half the time people return them with broken or missing parts. Don’t want to start the job and find out mid-way through like I did once.

One last question, can I reuse the plastic dust covers off my old LBJs? They're the only thing I didn't pick up.

Fuck yeah, I had to beat on my drivers side quite a bit to get it to pop free but totally doable just remember turn your castle nuts upside down if your going to keep them on while pounding.

If you get hung up on something post it on here and someone will chime in quick.

This is distinctly different from the aftermarket ballpoint recall which impacted Moog, NAPA, Sankei and several others.

Actually I can't "do it right"....not with regards to a pregnancy. Been shooting blanks since I was well, old enough to shoot! Had a sperm count done, it's essentially zero. I explained this to the wife back when dating started getting serious, she was OK with it.

If we ever get enough money coming in, we'll try to adopt. I promised God I'd adopt from India due to the levels of poverty I saw when I was there.

    ****
Drove her over to my fav. gas station to do this, parked under the canopy, asked the clerk for permission. She granted it but was appreciative I asked. :)

I top off the oil change. Very glad to be under cover as a MASSIVE thunderstorm and cloudburst came in. :eek2:

Still a bit low...."6.5 quarts with filter" in the manual but she's at 7.5 quarts with filter now and still a bit low. I go by the dipstick, on level, after a short drive....I find this to be the case with every vehicle I own.

Took her for a drive----very nice truck to drive! A manual shift would be more fun, but you can't have everything. :)

    Those are reusable cotter pins.

nothing looks terrible, but kudos for preemptive maintenance.

Been banging on the LBJ bolt in the A arm for probably a good 45 minutes now. Damn thing won't budge. If I do give in and go over to the auto parts store to rent a tool, which puller would you recommend?

Try banging on the circular part of the knuckle around the bolt instead of the bolt
