Ac stuck on Defrost

I am having an issue with my 2005 tundra where the AC is stuck in defrost mode and can’t be switched. The dial moves freely but does not change the mode.

Has anyone had a similar issue? Any insight would be much appreciated!

 

Does the dial feel any different? More resistance? Less resistance? Might be helpful.

You're looking for 1st gen Tundra blend door / blend door cable / blend door mode selector. Your issue is somewhere there.

 

I have this same issue as OP, so I will sub to this, but first the trans solenoid issue is top of my list LOL.

I watched a YouTube video of someone going through the blend doors and it was fairly easy-ish ( for me ) BUT you have to get under the drivers dash area where you kinda stand on your head to see what you are doing.

Yea I have seen this before on major BB sites, sad it happens. I have been a administrator of 3 BB's for the last 15 years, making decisions to BAN is what got me out of it.

The rod may have come off the mechanism behind the knob.

 

It will you just have to type the name out exactly as it's written for the user. You can also search for posts against BubbaW, he's posted help on quite a few threads.

Cable probably jumped, or something (like aftermarket stereo wires) got jammed up in things to either brake or disconnect a cable or gear.

 

Thanks, to everyone who offered suggestions! I followed the link from The Black Mamba and did some digging. I took apart the front of the dash where the knobs are and found everything to be working as expected. I then pulled out the center console and was able to see the white levers in the drivers footwell that actuate to the different modes. After some testing I found that one of the white levers had slipped out of the track where it connects to another. After popping this back in I was able to switch modes. Definitely still needs some lubrication but it is now working!

 

I swore we had links to the vent binding/track jumping/cable jumping issues in the 2nd reply of the community info / megathread, but it seems we do not. Guess that should be added.

 

I do try to link that first, when able. Also, I didn't see any info on the OD light short either. Maybe time to ask a mod to add reply lines to spots 3 and 4 since you're limited by character count.

I guess I need to figure out the best place to point people over the A/C binding and/or recirc not functioning and/or heat/cool not engaging. I have a reply or two on here that links to the major issues: Control wire binding, lubing controls, dashboard spindle/gear skipping, and the broken recirc door. Ideally, in the megathread I link to point to a single reply somewhere that covers most of the diagnostic basics you won't find inside the FSM.
