So I've been researching oil on my other favorite forum, BITOG, and ran across High performance lubricants. They appear to have fantastic oils, so I sent them a message and asked some questions about switching over to their oil. The owner, David, messaged me back and told me to give him a call today, which is Sunday. Awesome customer service so far! So I called and we discussed oil. I brought up the 75w transfer case oil, and if they made. He told me they can make it to order, and it will be about the same price as their gear oil, so not crazy expensive like the Toyota stuff, and also way better than anything currently available. So I'm about to swap my truck over to their oils front to back. Hope this helps someone, I highly suggest giving them a look

The 3rd gen Tundra uses Toyota Genuine ATF WS in the transfer case, not 75W anything.
It does use 75W-85 in the front and rear differentials, though.

Also meant to make this post in the 2.5 gen thread. Still used to calling it a 3rd gen

That information came from the 2022 Tundra Owner's Manual.
Perhaps we have different owner's manuals.

    2014-2021 takes 75w per toyota

HPL makes the 75w to order. Give them a call and they can make a batch when you need it. I believe they may only sell In minimum quantity of 6qts though. I'm going to be placing an order in a few days for 4 gallons 5w30, 12qts 75w90 diff fluid, and 6qts? 75w transfer case oil

Not to jack your thread, but since you are big on oil, I'm curious if you have a prestart up lube pump?? I'm currently looking.

Good to know. I’m running Ravenol right now without issues but it’s nice to have alternatives. Thanks.

I don't think it is necessary at all.

Yes, most of your wear occurs on start up, but I'll show you my last UOA, 10.2k miles with miles to spare. Notice the extremely low wear metals. If you added a pre oiler, how much more could you bring these numbers down? And would it be worth it? I don't think it is. Wear is also linear, so the longer you run your oil, the more wear metals show up as evidenced by many UOA on bitog. The oils I like also have lots of moly, which essentially "plate" the internals of the engine with a super slick, super tough (500k psi) barrier.
    Screenshot_20210809-090229_Acrobat for Samsung.jpg

The Schaeffers has been great, but im switching to HPL products as they have much better additive pack, extended drain intervals of 20-25k, and they have alot of Ester in the oil which cleans your engine extremely well of any sludge or varnish, and its my opinion that it will keep the timing chain tensioner from getting dirty, sludged, or clogged, and keep it in good working order. I priced a case of 4 gallons and it equals around $10qt.

Just drank the Koolaid. Gonna give HPL a try in the diffs, T case, and engine after running their cleaner for the next few thousand miles.

Did you do the full compliment of oils including the transmission? I’ve read tok many threads on the stuff on BITOG I can’t remember who did what. I PM’d Sumo about the transmission fluid but it’s always nice to have a test pool greater than 1. Haha. I’ve just always been hesitant about flushes and have done drain and fills every 30k or so with WS. Mines due for another but I was thinking of doing a drain and fill every 5 or 10k miles until I’ve exhausted my supply of WS, then maybe switch to HPL Green CC.

Tbh, I've only done the transfer case and diffs. I'm running it post-gear swap though and no issues.

This is the only thing that Toyota recommends for their transfer cases...
It ain't cheap but it's cheaper than have to replace a transfer case because you used the wrong fluid....

Any of you guys here still running HPL? I just ordered my first bucket of the basic PCMO 5W-30. I'm doing 30k highway only miles a year w/ 5k mile Costco oil changes and simply getting tired of doing oil changes every 2 months. Color me lazy but I'm seriously looking at pushing to a 15k mile OCI as was suggested by David Ward at HPL when I emailed him for his recommendation.

Aside, how cool is it you can email the owner of the company and he'll give you his recommendation along with his cell phone number?

I don't run it any more. My Blackstone reports came back with higher wear metals than any other oil, and both my diffs have had issues after running it. My Auburn turned in to a locker then self destructed. But the labs showed it to be a far superior ad-pack despite the excessive wear metals, so I don't know what was going on.

That's concerning. Higher wear metals for just the differential oils? Or were you also seeing the same for your engine oil as well?

I just ran the regular PCMO 5W-30 for 10k miles in my 2019. Analysis from Polaris showed tbn was still high and wear metals low. Filter was clean. 15k will be my next interval.

I have always had good luck with Amsoil, Mobil 1, and Valvoline gear oils, so I don’t plan on changing there.

So why does Toyota(Harley does it too) specific oil matter? I understand the various weights and viscosity and the reasoning behind it all but I've never understood why an oil or grease or whatever lube has the vehicle manufacturer's name on it then it's "the best"? I mean, the way I see it, if I use a high quality 75W in a transfer case but the oil isn't Toyota, it's not like my TC is gonna all of a sudden fall apart and cause small children to cry. I get long winded sometimes......
