Toyotapartsdeal shows two different part numbers that fit
44250-0C030 for $650
and
44250-0C041 for $720

anyone know the difference? and should I just go for the cheaper option?

You didn't supply us with any truck info, so we can't assist other than guessing. Also, use the epc to know for sure.

Yes I am only using Toyotapartsdeal with my VIN so I can find the correct part number. I will be buying from a dealership to get the 4th sale and free shipping. What truck info do you need? Its a 2004 AC. But like I said I entered my VIN and both of those part numbers came back as a fit.

 

I did a little digging. This is for model code UCK40 (4WD)

This one is called for with model code UCK30 (2WD)

It seems 2004 is the only year with 2 options. All other years have only 1 option. According to the epc, both part numbers are usable with the same production date ranges. I cannot explain what makes one different than the other as they "should" be interchangeable.

If that’s the price for a new, not rebuilt rack, it’s a great price. Paid $1100.00 bones last year for my 01 Sequoia rack.

So what are the symptoms of a rack that needs to be replaced?

 

I seem to get great prices for them on most parts, cheaper than buying from Toyota direct, for sure. I do like to be near a Toyota dealer, but where I'm moving there is no dealer for about 20-25 miles over steep grades. I will be leveraging them more for the Tundra I buy.

The other thing is ask those guys questions about the parts, they will provide XLNT removal and replacement instructions by one of their guys.

 

You'd be stupid to buy direct from a dealer, at least from their parts counter, they typically charge MSRP, sometimes more, or if you get lucky or know someone, they may give you 5% off.

We have more than ample info in this 1st gen subforum on how to get OEM parts, sometimes even picking them up locally or shipped free with no tax, at up to 60%+ off the MSRP. It's really fun to walk into that same dealer charging you MSRP or slightly less, and picking up a part for half price, and seeing the confused look on their faces.

The Toyota Parts Program is a wonderful thing.

Sometimes I'm willing to pay the premium, the Toytoa dealer always has the correct nuts and bolts, as an example, and the cost is not something to worry about, it's the convenience of having them 5 miles away. 50 miles round trip in a Tundra is 3-1/2 gallons of gas. That's $30. However, for some parts I'm willing to pay the price if they have something in stock, especially on a weekend, so I can finish what I'm doing.

That said, I came here to learn, so school me!

I'm pretty anxious to get a Tundra, I know I'll be tinkering with it quick, doing basic stuff. I will be needing parts for sure. Do you know how much MSRP is marked up over dealer cost?

 

When it starts leaking on the ground and your HOA catches you throwing kitty litter on the puddle in the middle of the night.

 

I guess you never owned a Land Rover...there's a saying..."No matter how hard you try, you can't keep the water from leaking in, or the fluids from leaking out...". I have had a bag of kitty litter in my garage that I haven't used since I got rid of my Rover. My Rover used to leak so much power steering fluid, weeds grew in the asphalt where I parked it.

Another good use of kitty litter is if your gear box seals go out on your lathe after you put 5 qts in the sump..."cleanup, isle 1"

My Gen 1 Tacoma is quite the opposite, everything dried and drained out while driving and it turned into a mucky mud substance that made the rack hard to turn. So be careful how much kitty litter you start using on your Tundra...at the point the kitty litter doesn't become wet, there's a problem.

Toyota Parts Deal is less than reputable. If you haven't gotten ripped off yet, just wait. There are dozens of complaints here, and on the sister site, Tacoma World, that I reckon it's only a matter of time.

Again. We have connections to get parts. Significantly cheaper than TPD. Some are even free ship and tax free. All that info is here at the forum. Shop smarter, not harder.

I am also considering an OEM steering rack during this sale. I don't need it right now but I'm concerned it might be discontinued like the OEM cv axle (appears to be).

 

This is the problem with my Gen 1 2WD Tacoma, many of the parts are discontinued and I can't even get them from Toyota. In some cases, the fenders are imported from China. So far ToytoaPartsDeal has been good, but I won't push my luck. Both the Gen 2 and Gen 2.5 both have much better supply of parts, most everything is available, but the first thing I'm gonna just focus on getting a truck before I even worry about buying parts for it.

For parts discontinued domestically, Amayama and Partsouq are reputable OEM parts suppliers who may be able to help. Each has their own dedicated website.

Nope. But it got posted again, reply #12, and reply #15 on this very thread has a link to 3 pages and dozens of threads of recent mentions of one of major discounted source.

Ourisman/McGeorge was something like $240 out the door for a pair of new LBJs and bolts. My preferred source is $183 out the door, for the next 3 days of Independence Day sale (added 20% off). Not even Jojo the clown on Facebook can compete with their pricing.

Not saying Serra is perfect, nor are they the only vendor I use, or the only vendor who can get you out the door that cheap. I have a local dealer that - if I start my order through the Toyota National Parts Program website - typically gets within 5% of Serra. But I'd get a little hit from tax for that instant gratification of in-store pickup, so on parts that I can wait, or I wouldn't want to ship, I'll typically start at te TNPP site, and setup the order for local dealer pickup. (Note, each dealer offers their own variable discounts on order pickups, so it's always important to check which has the best discount pricing before you add anything to your cart for pickup)
