Hey guys, I’m looking to add an outlet to the back of my bed in a 2023 tundra SR5 does anyone have any videos or recommendations on how to make this happen? I already have some LED lights in the back of the bed that are hooked up with a wire running through my battery. I would like the outlet to power up battery chargers for my tools like a drill. Maybe used to power up a light if we go camping.

Ok this is what i had done at a shop. I bought a 12v plug off the internet, surprisingly hard to find for this application. They had to run a wire all along the bottom of the frame to the battery. They had to pull off the truck bed lining on one side then cut into it to mount the plug. Now having said that im not sure it will run power tools i don't think even the standard inverter from toyota will do that but someone else knows more then me about that

I'm not sure how to go about doing something like this, however, I have seen a lot of overlanding rigs that have many different power requirements and setups. I'd recommend looking into overlanding builds. There are some really good builds out there for many different vehicles, but quite a few are Toyota specific.

What do you use your plug for?

Question: It isn't clear to me if you want AC in the back of your bed or if 12VDC is OK. If you want to plug in a drill or battery charger, it would be nice to have AC. For 120VAC......I did this in a different (2.0) generation Tundra. I used this AC outlet https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09L7Q95HZ There was enough room between my bed liner and bed to mount it. If you want to run tools, you probably want to get a 1000W inverter. 1000W is close to 100A at 12VDC so you will need to run about 4AWG wire to the inverter. It is best to mount the inverter in the cab so it doesn't have to see any moisture/weather. The inverter output is high voltage so you don't need really thick wire into your bed. I ran some 14/2 UF-B wire (rated for direct burial and outside use) from my 1000W Renogy sinewave inverter. I can run my pole chainsaw no problem.

    None at this point.
Had an outlet in the bed of one of my Trucks.
Cant remember which one it was.
It did come in handy at times, mainly to run a blender to make Margaritas.
