So we're you able to get any numbers?

 

I mean I got numbers….but they aren’t accurate. Wasn’t calibrated correctly so the numbers a pretty useless

 

1st dyno I used was from a very popular company that was already mentioned in this thread. They let me use it after hours and on 87 octane the truck made 45whp and 76wtq over stock. The truck had 35’s on it, and we saw the Hp drop from stock because of that.
The 2nd dyno I went to I wanted to tune for 93 octane, but it was obvious that their dyno was very much out of calibration. We got horrible numbers from it. Stock Hp was way low, and stock Tq was way higher than it should have been. It was a hub dyno so tire size wasn’t the issue, and the truck had I think SnB intakes on it. I’m waiting for an opportunity to get back to the first dyno, as I know they calibrate and keep up with there’s very well. Just coordinating after hours with someone with a truck I can use is difficult.

 

It was unfortunate that we wasted that time.

 

Can some mod/admin explain why this was moved to a sub-section with minimal traffic when it is specific to the third gen sub-forum?
Why even have a 3rd gen section at all then if all the topics can just be moved to some other generic section?

This isn’t a sealed unit. Theres a foam sheet underneath the honeycomb cover. If you want it sealed you can sandwich something solid between the filter housing and cover.

I had a carbon fiber cover made, so it only draws air from the fenders.

 

Wonder what the airflow change would be with it covered vs uncovered.

Granted I'm not a fan of engine bay air intakes (at least the suction portion), do the benefits from flow outweigh the downsides of temperature?

AND, the one thing I think thats missing is the air intake charge temp coming off the heat exchanger into the throttle body.

@eddiefromcali have you monitored this from the JB4 before? IAT through the run?

 

Little to none. There's a large opening on the side that draws in plenty of air through the fender opening to make it a non-issue.

 

Copy. I knew there was a snorkel in the fender that goes to the grills below the headlights.

Makes little to no sense (at least in the air to air intercooler realm) to have hot charge air to the cold side of the compressor wheel to gather excess heat from the engine bay into the charge system.

I'm curious to know at what point the OE CAC becomes inefficient and is over its ability to shed heat.

AND what the coolant temps are in that cooler.

 

I have a lot of WOT logs I can review but I dont think JB4 captures post intercooler temps...I'd have to check. I would expect pre-cooler temps to remain the same or even cool down since Im gaining speed and likely feeding more ambient air into the boxes. I'll take a look at some of my older files I've shared with Terry and Payam @ BMS.

Your right your right. Just looked at the photo again there is a mesh filter on the top of this one. Which you could do a plexiglass cover.

 

They are now...AITs stay same or drop a few degrees after some pulls...again, I dont think these really mean anything....I want to know post intercooler temps

With them being as stable as they are in that log, and show a decrease in temperature, Im willing to bet that is the post intercooler temperature that is used for load calculations.

Air to water intercoolers behave (IMO) significantly different than your traditional Air to air bar and plate unit.

 

I was reaching the capacity of mine on the GTI when I swapped to E30. Airflow and heat were starting to suffer.

I saw the same thing with my Cruze...even with a bigger intercooler, my temps kept creeping up and up. We were pushing the turbo a bit too much, imo....even on full E85 it was getting a wee bit too hot and density probably took a dump.
