Did you screen all the holes in the firewall? I missed the one behind the wiper motor the first time I did it.

Yup. I got all 3. It may be possible I trapped one and now it’s dead somewhere. But I don’t have a smell

I think the plugs help, but honestly, having a mouse bucket near the truck and letting the mice die is what solved this issue for me. Nothing else really will do it, the things are smarter than we give them credit for, and they seem to be determined. I am actually resetting the one in my shed and one by the truck today after the winter break.

What are these holes for? How many are there. I saw a mouse when I open the door on the driver side mat. I tries shooing him out by he escaped under the dash somewhere. What's the solution?

Awesome write-up, and entertaining. Do you think self-tapping screws would work instead of ties? It seems disappointing that Toyota didn't design the cowl cover to be mouse-proof. Did you cover any other openings? How many IPA's did it take for this job? I want to make sure I don't run out.

Don't want them in the cabin.

Oh, don't worry they will get in. I have been attacked three times on my truck, once on the supra. Its pointless, they are relentless.

Pine sol soaked rags, pink dove bar soap, and snuggle dryer sheets are wedged in several spots around my engine bay and it seems to work.

I put hardware cloth over the HVAC openings under the cowling. Pulled a nest out and vacuumed the area. I installed a sonic deterrent in the engine compartment and the cabin. I hope this helps. I haven't noticed any wiring damage.

There was evidence that rodents had made their way to my cabin filter while the truck sat idle waiting on a heart transplant, so I took advantage of the time the motor was out of the truck and sealed off the air intake hole on the interior side above the cabin filter. There are many points of entry in the bulkhead on the motor side and as far as I could tell, all of those other openings lead to this single air intake.

    IMG_2280.jpg

I reached in and set a flat section of mesh screening in front of the opening and then place a larger piece that I had coiled up so it would fit through the opening over that letting it's spring tension hold both in place I used some red tape and silicone sealer to hold the 1st piece in place while I uncoiled the 2nd piece over it.

    IMG_2281.jpg

My cabin filter has not been visited by rodents since I did this.

I used self-tapping screws with some difficulty.
