Scan To For Transmission Check

Going to be draining and filling my transmission. Is this tool (SC Pro 2) good for checking the temp in order to use the check bolt? Also, get it to what 99-111° and then wait for a steady stream and I’m good? Thanks.

Most of the people that use that have it more for monitoring temps while driving. If you are just wanting to see it to drain and fill, one of the smaller BLE units like a veePeak BLE+ with an app such as OBD Fusion would be cheaper in the long run.

 

I use that same Scan Gauge II when I drain and fill my Tundra's or my wife's Sequoia's transmission, and it works great.

Make sure you run the setup and configure the trans temps prior to starting the transmission service because the setup is a bit involved (there's a plethora of good YouTube vids to guide you through it though).

In regards to the check procedure itself, once your trans reaches 100°F crack the check valve (the one with a 5mm allen head bolt), and allow fluid to drain out until it becomes a "trickle". I seal the check plug back in as soon as the flow starts to "gurgle" (in other words looks like its pulsating, vs a smooth consistent flow).

If you're going to spend that kind of money I'd suggest getting the OBD Link MX+. For starters it will come with all the PiDs so you don't need to enter them and you can be under your truck with your phone/tablet reading the temp so that you can crack it right when it gets to temp. You want to wait for the steady stream to stop and close it when it starts to trickle which is when it starts to go down the side of the pan and not straight down.

Unfortunately not. I turned mine off with Techstream.

 

Gotcha. No big deal. Think I’ll get this. New to scan tool stuff. Not sure what else I’ll really use it for. But I’m sure I’ll learn.

 

I got the ScanGauge III and love it. It's a bit of overkill and has more monitors then you'll know what to do with. Has just about everything as far as monitoring you'll need and then some. Has a more accurate MPG gauge then what the tundra has. Plus allows you to read and reset codes. Definitely worth the extra dough.

 

You can use it to monitor stuff while you drive as well, this is my set up but it's completely customizable.

 

Is the mpg more accurate than what the truck has? Can you make it compensate for tire size? How about speed? Thanks!

Yeah that's pretty cool that you can do that, I like that there's so much customization built into it.

I've been trying to find the changelog for their firmware updates. I just recently updated to the latest firmware but wanting to know what got added or changed.
