LANE KEEP ASSIST/Centering - do you use it?

On cue, someone implies that you're not actually using Lane Centering, as if it's not obvious that it's different from Lane Assist/Departure. I guess we're all Boomer dummies who can't read and understand the manual.

I agree, the system needs "smoothing". It really is poorly implemented on these trucks. I'm not enough of a tech guy to know if the smoothing can be accomplished with a software update, but I hope so.

I'll have to try it out sometime, when i have some free road with no cars nearby to video it. This is Lane Centering - with steering assist active - steering assist active is the first stage, I go into the LTA setups and enable Lane Centering, so I have the blue bands on each side of the lane ... (I have the 1794 screen, so it's a little different, but same kind of messaging and functionality.)

 

I tried To like the lane centering/assist but it's to harsh And not consistent enough for me.

 

Be careful. Even if you know exactly how to use it, but don't like it, you will be called ignorant for not knowing how to use it by a certain member on this thread.

The tech isn’t perfect but it works for me, perhaps because I realize its limitations. On clean roads with well defined lane markers it works great- but those don’t really exist in New Mexico

 

Just finished a 1200 mi. drive and found that LCA works far better at night than during the day. Much less wandering. Maybe at night the sensors see the lane lines better than when sunlit? Don’t know. Ive made this trip 10 times in the Tacoma but first in the new Tundra and what a huge difference. So much more relaxing using Radar Cruise and Land centering at night. Takes some workload off. Way more comfortable too.

 

Not a fan of it. Straight highway like I-95 it does an OK job but it seems to be all over the road. Our Kia does a great job with lane assist. Need to experiment with it more.

And at the same time, it's a little sad.

 

Definately have to stay alert. On our big trip the lane lines along the left of the number one lane stopped and it tried to go off into the center dirt median. The seats are the big winners. No sore tail bone after 26hrs in it.

 

I’ve found on my truck and also a 20 accord the vehicles seem to loose the edges of the road in shadow.

Pretty annoying if you do a lot of two lane highway driving.

The accord has even been fooled by the shadows from power lines and randomly tried to jerk one way or the other.

 

Sorry for being late to the conversation but has the question been asked if whether the distance for the adaptive cruise control can be permanently set? It’s annoying that everytime ACC is activated, it defaults to maximum distance.

 

did you adjust the sensitivity and try different settings?

 

I don't think so. But adjusting it is a simple button push.

 

I know. Simple annoyance that I’ve gotten used to working around. Just wanted to know if whether there’s a solution as all.

 

Once lane centering is activated in the settings menu, is there a way to quickly turn it off and keep lane assist on? I like lane assist, but I only like lane centering for long stretches of highway driving.

 

Other than turning off cruise control, not that I've ever run across.

 

Never tried it in my Tundra & have no desire to.
Tried it once in wife's Lexus, just to try. I won't be using it there either.

 

The button on your steering wheel will toggle lane centering off and on.

Top right. Looks like a car angled, running off the road.

 

That turns off both lane centering and lane tracing (if lane centering is turned on in the MID)

 

That button does more than simple "both on/off". It cycles.

 

I use LKA on long drives, combined with adaptive cruise control and 4H, it dances from side to side occasionally, but overall, very helpful, I love it
For some reason when I put it on 4H and an active cruise control, I don't get the notification to keep hands on steering wheel

 

I've tried that and it doesn't work that way on my truck.

 

Ok. Correction. In my truck, it does what Frozen.Tundra25 asked. Not cycle like I thought. And not turn both off like yours. Subliminally, I use it how FT25 wanted. Here's a quick video.

Bought my 2025 1794 in Idaho. 2500 mile drive home to PA. Lane centering assist has been awesome.

 

Interesting, must be a difference between the digital dash and non-digital.

 

It’s annoying so I ruined it off, I use the adaptive cruise all the time until it turns off because my camera is jacked up and likely needs replacement.

 

Yeah on longer trips I do. I use adaptive cruise control almost daily, love it. I've always liked how Toyota includes these features on their trucks/cars as most others its a package you have to purchase.

 

Love it on the 15 hour drive from PA to Mississippi. Definitely helps lessen brain fatigue on those long drives.

 

I use it daily (LTA, centering, adaptive cruise), but man does adaptive cruise destroy your rear brakes. If you use adaptive cruise often, prepare for new brakes between 40-50k.

 

I don’t. Mine weaves left and right. Had it in my last car and I shut it off. Never really needed it so…
