2008 5.7 CMAX Check engine light, anti skid, VSC flashing lights

Truck is on the wait list for the shop but trying to get an idea of what is going on in case they try to pull some BS. 2008 5.7 122000 miles. Engine light, VSC, Trac control flashing driving down the road. Pulled codes to find
C1201- Engine control system malfunction
P0101- Mass or colume air flow A circuit / range/ performance

I'm reading all kinds of different issues pertaining to these codes but the worst one linking them to the air injection pump. I disconnected battery for 10 min and it reset system. All lights came back on after 50+ miles of driving. Any thoughts?

 

AIP maybe.If so, there is an extended warranty from Toyota on those. I think 150K/10 years so you might still be covered if that's the case.

could also be ABS sensor. Read up on the forums, plenty of similar issues.

 

Pull the cables fromyour battery and put it back in. Wait 15 mins before you put them back.. mine did that a month ago and I did that, and I never seen it again

Worth a try: check to make sure that air hose (from the intake unit to the engine) didn't come off. That was what happened to me this summer (pretty much the same symptom). No issues after tightening it.

 

Started the truck this morning and all lights were not on the dash. Nothing changed other than its been one of the coldest mornings we have had at 45 degrees. Not sure what to do now and Im not really wanting to just wait until they come on again. Still have the service appt scheduled but not sure if they will find anything since the check engine light is off.

 

I did check the hose on the intake and its connected. No issues there.

 

5.7 Non Flex

 

Picked up the Tundra from the repair shop. Problem was the mass air flow sensor. Had to pay the $250 deductible for my extended warranty to replace a $65.00 part but its now fixed I guess. I still cannot find the answer to the question of why the check engine light and blinking traction lights when a simple glitch with the mass air sensor.

 

Yep temperature dropped here too - it was 27 degrees yesterday.

 

Those flashing lights really freak me out.

The 7.5amp for the ECU was blown....

 

Lights are back on again. Mass air flow sensor code. It was replaced with a new part and still coming on at random. Clear the code and a week or 2 go by and shes back on again. Starting to get a bit annoying. Anyone with an idea I can try???

 

I had a check engine light come on then later traction control off light and a flashing 4LO light. I took it to Auto Zone and got a diagnostic report. I cleaned the MAFS, however it looked spotless and I checked the intake tubing and noticed a section came apart. Put it back together and everything was fine.

 

Did yoy have your air breather off or open at any part while engie was running? If so disconnect battery for 30 min it should rest.

That is your problem I did the sea foam treatment to the intake and the breather boot came off. Took it for a drive and check engine light and 4lo light flashing remove neg terminal and went in the store hooked back up and all lights were gone. Try that before the shop.

 

I'm not sure if this will help but it worked for my 2006 Sequoia. I ran into multiple OBDII failures featuring MAF and all 4 Oxygen Sensors having under/low voltage and had a sputtering truck that occasionally stalled and the codes wouldn't reset, it's important to review all of the above fixes. But take a few seconds and try an additional one. First off. after reading forums from many different sites, I cleaned the Mass Air Flow sensor and changed the air filter. It didn't fix it. I replaced the MAF and that didn't fix it. I swapped some relays around and the problem persisted. I removed the battery cables, cleaned the terminals, cleaned the connecters and inspected the battery cables for fraying and proper connection to the frame and fender - still no luck.

I had difficulty believing that the MAF and all 4 Oxygen Sensors went at once. The error code bothered me that it was "low voltage" so before I brought the truck to a dealer or repair shop, I decided to check ALL of the fuses in the vehicle. As luck would have it, one of the last (of course) fuses I checked was the EFI2 10amp fuse under the hood and it was blown. On a 2006 Toyota Sequoia it is located under the hood on the driver's side in the larger of the two fuse boxes (there is a third box marked as RELAYS) and the fuses are diagrammed under the cover for the fuses. Replacing the 10 Cent fuse fixed the problem! And probably saved me hundreds of dollars to diagnose the problem. This fix may not be your issue, but it takes 15 seconds to check and is a cheap fix if it is just a blown fuse. Cheers!
