Front Active Spoiler Failure

I'm in the same boat.
Short answer IMO: no.
Longer answer: Maybe, when stock height, it might add a fraction of an mpg.
Mine's coming off eventually.

I think the owners manual says it's for stability, not for mpgs.

When you say active spoiler does that mean it moves by itself based on wind speed?

It’s for mpg. As was said, a fraction of 1mpg. Manufacturers have to show many of these reductions to meet standard. It’s deployed and retracted based on speed only.

 

It’s based off of mph. I think it activates above 30 or 40 mph. I removed mine and kept the motor plugged in.

 

Yes, like a supercar rear spoiler. It physically moves into place above something like 40mph. Retracts below 25. It's not visible unless you get underneath your truck.

 

Seems a bit excessive for a truck.

 

I'd be fine without it and the power tailgate.

 

It just seems to be overkill for a truck unless the truck is highly modified and used at the track.
The whole idea is for downforce to improve traction. I just cant see a Tundra needing this.

 

sweers talked about the benefits during towing, stability wise, etc.

also, with the EPA bs, they have to squeeze out every drop, so I get it from that standpoint as well.

 

I disabled mine after it was repaired under warranty.

The spoiler is still in the truck just held in place with many straps tucked in. or you can remove it.
(I already have an RCI plate in there so oil changes dont need me to drop the spoiler to remote the skid plate like oem)
Plug to the motor of the system in just unplugged and wrapped to protect it from water.
Plus on the motor is also weather sealed.

No errors or issues what so ever on my dash with it unplugged. No plug in module etc either.

 

Wow I thought someone said it would throw codes if its unplugged.

I have a 2023 1794 with it and no codes. The only time I got error was when the motor didnt work anymore.
There was that standard error on the dash, I clear it and it would pop up again later. So I made an appoitment with the dealer and had to wait.
Unplugging the unit from the actuator motor cleared my error on the dash! No more error on the dash. Well ok then!

I brought it to the dealer and they had to determine if it was damage by my action or a failure of the part.
Dealer ordered part and I had the truck fixed. Dealer techs didnt connect the air dam to the motor, had them fix that right away.
Off I went home. I had some time so first thing I did was disconnect the system again and wrapped it up.
No air dam, no errors. Dont miss it at all.

What exactly are you towing?

 

He said stability and aerodynamics not ability , likely due to it sending the air out around the truck and trailer at higher speeds.

I’m just saying what I heard in the video, it’s probably very small , but engineers get a woody over shit like that

 

Havent noticed a difference.
I tow my camper and SxS and it tows just fine.

 

That’s not something your going to “notice”, it’s likely a small gain or very very subtle thing in a engineering wind tunnel or something

all that said, Toyota did an awesome job with the towing improvements this time around , tows awesome

 

My spoiler was down 24/7 until i got oil change i thought that was normal
