So has anyone noticed that the bottles of Toyota 0W-20 do NOT say they meet the ILSAC GF-6A requirements that these motors take...???

It's listed on the Mobil 1 0W-20 bottles

Mine will only see 0W20 because I bought the prepaid maintenance up too 85K. I am doing 5K changes. One by me and the dealer. After 85K I may go to 0W30.

My Walmart receipt just showed mobil 1, not the weight. I suppose the dealer could search the SKU, if they were doubting the viscosity.

Nope. Burden of proof is on you. Dealer will not search anything.

Go to Walmart. Buy 0w20 and OEM oil fiter, Walmart now sells OEM fiters,, then return oil but keep the receipt, now you have all proof you need,.
Buy 5w30 and be happy. No one is going to send your oil for testing.
    Repeat in 5k miles

My point is that I have a receipt for 10 qts of mobil 1. I'll document the date and mileage when I change it.

The receipt does NOT show weight (0w30), so the dealer couldn't easily say I didn't use the correct weight.

Are you saying I have to prove not only that I changed the oil, but what weight was used?

I did not say anything. I don't know if you have to prove anything or do not. I always have Toyotas and lexus, so never any issues. I just said if you want a proof, just to cover your bases, you can easily do it this way and if the problem happens you can easily prove that you used 0w20 oil by providing receipts and a picture of the 0w20 container with a matching barcoad.

Well, here's and interesting turn of events.
GM recalls nearly 600,000 Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC cars due to engine failure risks | AP News

And I think it would serve all of us well.
The GM recall is on the L87 main bearing failures, which IMO are very similar to the ones that Toyota has been experiencing. The TSB issued has a two stage investigation. One is if the crank and cam are out of alignment via the sensor...if that is the case, full blown engine replacement.
STOP Following OEM Oil Advice (GM Recall Proves Why)

Second, if it isn't, then swap to a 0w-40 oil. What I find interesting about this is the hydraulic wedge properties by moving up to the thicker oil at temp....provides a significantly better shear protection at temp, along with the high quality oil.

We've all known for a while that the 0w-20 is pretty thin, and with the forces generated by these turbo engines, having something that can withstand the heat and conrod force from combustion is crucial to prevent wiping the bearings.

Pennzoil has an SRT specific 0w-40 Ultra platinum oil that I am going to give a go with. I just recently changed mine at 20k, at 21k now....no filter change, just the fluid swap. Fumoto makes life easy.

GM did something similar with C7 Corvettes that originally came with 5W-30 Mobile 1. They originally required switching to a heavier oil for track use but after a certain model year they switched the spec to 0W-40 Mobil 1 ESP that was approved for every day and track work. I switched my 2016 Vette over to that. Of course after a couple of years Mobile renamed the 0W-40 ESP to "Supercar" and jacked the price. LOL.

I also ran the M1 Euro formula 0W-40 in my old 2nd gen Tacoma a couple of times with good results... although would probably be better to use the more $ ESP/Supercar version.

Interesting video about the GM recall mentioned above. I don't have a 3rd Gen but I'm thinking when it's time to change the oil (still has the oil from the dealer where I bought it used) I may go 0W40 or 5W30. This all kind of confirms what many have been saying that the thin oil is to help meet EPA fuel economy numbers and is not the best option for long engine life.

Yup. That's what pushed me over to it.

My wife's car '14 VW Touareg consumes a bit of oil every change. I swapped to 5w-50, and 1Qt of 20w-50. Solved the issue.

Just changed my oil. First 500 mile change. Used quaker state full synthetic 5w30.
Seems the Motor runs smother. Probably just a placebo effect.
0w20 after 500 miles looks very dark and feels like water.

Used QS because according to BTOG currently it has the best quality.

It's not your imagination. Engines do run smoother with proper lubrication. I immediately switched to 5W30 when I bought my 5.7. I also run it in my wife and daughters Pentastar engines. They run quieter and smoother. I've never had a hard starting issue with 5W oil down into the -10f range, so I don't get the hype with 0W oils.

Yeah, any "normal" cold, 5W is fine for starting. But there was a time when we moved to Idaho (Navy training), got there in the fall that soon turned to winter. We had some wicked cold spells when not one of me and my roommates' 6 cars would start for weeks at a time. So I can see the 0 weights helping those folks... although you really need engine block heaters in places like that.

I'm still waiting for Spraynard Lubrication Technologies Group to go to market with their patented sperm whale oil based multi-vis.
Word on the street is that it's having a hard time passing API standards and of course the PETA people are throwing a fit.
I have faith they can pull it off though with multi-talented tribologist @hagrid at the helm.

Pfffft.....who's this Lake Speed guy anyway?

    OP had a question.
    The answer is "yes."

Watching The Motor Oil Geek on YouTube. Chevy is changing their 6.2L to 0W 40 to increase oil film on the crankshaft bearing from 0W 20. Seems like the 20 is not doing the job.

The API folded like a wet napkin and I paid off PETA.

The hold up is the Food and Drug Administration.

I own a bunch of different vehicles. Certainly dont go to the local wally world etc when I need something.
This doesnt mean I dont purchase from them but I will get in 8-10 bottles of oil to have on the shelf.
Oil filters, 10 packs OEM Toyo for me.

What I do though is take pictures and maybe a video of the oil change then the mileage on the odometer.
Want to verify I am doing an oil change? Got it right on my phone.

I used M1 Euro 0w40 in my rebuilt Volvo turbo engine. It started gunking it up quickly. Seeing a hot-tanked and shiny oil filter housing fouling with lacquer more and more every oil change pissed me off enough, I switched to PPU 5w30. No problem.

Modern M1 Euro is maybe good for old cold N/A euro engines, but it definitely burns in a good turbo. Funny thing I picked M1 Euro after seeing pictures of a very similar engine that seen M1 Euro only since new, for a decade, and it was clean. Maybe there was a formula change to make oil cheaper to produce.

Yeah? Well, I donated 2 cats to Spraynard's cat based cat food initiative and I've yet to see any rewards. I'm beginning to think Spray Corp is just a hoax. Please prove me wrong......
