On the fence on doing one of the available supercharged kits on my 2020 Tundra. For those that have them installed

What kit did you go with?

    What was the cost done?

    What were your Dyno numbers?

What were your 0-60 and 1/4 mile numbers?

Lastly does anyone regret going this route?

I'm on the fence, buy a newer truck one of the twin turbo'd and do some work like a tune and inlet, outlet piping.

I should reiterate that I have this super arrogant, brother-in-law, that loves his Fords and just picked up a new Tremor with the 3.5 Ecoboost. Gas mileage wise he’s not much more than 1-2 better than the Tundra. But basically I want to make sure that I can wipe his grin off his face and put his Honda with a fart can sounding Ecoboost in my rear view lol. But gotta admit they do run good.

Lots of good info in there to read. Which ever kit you choose will put a smile on your face.

It depends on your mods, extra weight, tire size, gear ratio etc. In general many are doing about 4.5s 0-60, high 12s to mid 13s 1/4 mile with a few extras like injectors, fuel pump, and pulley over the standard kits. Dyno numbers seem to vary greatly.

For me the truck weighs ~6600lbs on the scale, 35” tires, stock gears, smaller pulley, larger injectors and the Harrop supplied 340lph pump and it can do 4.5s 0-60, and 1/8 mile in 8.30s which should be about a 12.9s 1/4 mile.

If you want an actual “fast” truck by today’s standards the tundra neither old or new makes it very easy, but if you want to drive a Toyota it is what it is. The new HO hurricane Ram is pretty darn quick right off of the lot, as well as the usual high performance trucks like the Raptor R and RHO. I don’t regret mine and the money I’ve spent on it, but I love all things 2nd gen tundra. If a half ton is all you’ll ever need for hauling it’s a great setup. I tow on the upper end of the tundras capabilities so sometimes I wish I had an HD truck for hauling (weight capacity not power) and a fun car for the kicks.

Used kit for $3k, gauge for $400, injectors for $800, pulley for $200, $800 tuning, two days of labor installing it. Call it $5k used, $10k new.

    490whp/580tq

    4.58s 0-60mph @ ~10psi, 5.29s, 35s, truck weighs 5900

Definitely don't regret it. It's surprisingly quick, mainly it just gets the truck to move out of its own way. Makes the truck feel a lot lighter and nimble even if you're not giving it all the boost, it just gets up with a lot less throttle and doesn't feel sluggish. Makes it quick enough to get around people who don't want you to pass, but it's not a sports car.

It's a lot of money, if done correctly is very reliable and fun. Is it worth $10k? Your call.

Did I read correctly somewhere that those things are pushing 28 pounds of boost????

Still though... $75-$85k for a 1/2 Ram uhhh no thanks!!!

I think I'd opt for an F-150 Lariat w/the FP700 package first :notsure: (at least if I was targeting an "out of the box" package)

2019 TRD pro here. 1.9L Magnuson, Stock pulley, stock Magnuson supplied injectors and fuel pump, 35" tires, stock gear ratio. Only other modifications would be long tube headers and a custom tune from OTT. I have a best of 4.57 seconds 0-60 and 8.30's in the 1/8 mile. I paid $7500 for the kit on sale and installed it myself. Just got my new valve body delivered last night and can't wait to throw that in tomorrow. I don't regret a thing about going supercharged. As sniv stated, It's no sports car but it can get around 90 % of the cars out there. And it is sure to put a smile on your face! Not to mention the sounds out of these supercharged 5.7's is beautiful!

I see the brotherhood of boost is here.
Worth noting there is a turbo kit for Gen 2.5 Tundra as well.
    https://www.tundras.com/threads/turbo-charging-a-tundra.115951/

    Harrop.
PreCovid so it was about ~10K, higher if you get other supporting mods.
My baseline was 325WHP jumped up to 520WHP on the "Stage 1" sitting at ~530WHP with smaller pulley and other mods.
    Dunno
No regrets but it isn't a fire and forget process. More mods adds complexity to troubleshooting and it is likely some issues will creep up over time.
I'm with @Silver17 though. Get an out of the box prebuilt truck boosted from the factory if you want the fastest truck available unless you enjoy tinkering or want longer term reliability. Even with a Tundra you are sacrificing reliability if you go with an aftermarket boost solution.

On Gen 2.5 the stock engine is probably capped at ~550WHP before visiting grenade town even though some have visited grenade town at lower numbers. Stock transmission can probably hold ~750WHP with a VB kit based on one of the trucks was regularly drag raced on a strip.

    Turbokits.com Stage 3.14 & more
I'll fill in some of the gaps on the turbocharged 5.7 side of the fence.

What kit did you go with?
I've done all of the turbokits.com kits. Stage 1 (turbo + water/methanol injection), Stage 1.5 (Stage 1 plus intercooler), and then Stage 2 (Stage 1 plus intercooler, injectors and pump)

    What was the cost done?
See the turbokits.com website for current pricing. Jesse has done a good job and it's just slightly less than a SC on average.

    What were your Dyno numbers?
    See the turbokits.com website for actual charts. Summary: Stage 1 = ~400WHP/480WTQ @ ~3.5psi, Stage 2 = ~530WHP/580WTQ @ ~6.5psi

What were your 0-60 and 1/4 mile numbers?
    I've only done a few times. Stage 1/1.5 0-60mph = ~6.30s @3.2psi, Stage 2 0-60mph = 5.21s @6.7psi
We'll have 8/9psi runs in the very near future, but the takeaway was simply that single turbo does not equal slow when designed and integrated appropriately.

Lastly does anyone regret going this route?
    Yes and no.
I love boost and these trucks respond well to it. As I tell my wife, "It's cheaper than a Supra."
You mess with stock and it demands a certain degree of time/resource to maintain/improve it. This is the part I sort of regret since I didn't really go into it thinking speed/performance was going to become my new hobby (addiction?). So, go into it with that reality in mind and make an informed decision. Either the SC or TC threads will show you what you're getting into.

I'm on the fence, buy a newer truck one of the twin turbo'd and do some work like a tune and inlet, outlet piping.
See everyone's answers above. What are you looking to do and how much time/energy/money do you want to put into it?

Has anyone tried turbos or supercharger from temu? I've seen some really good prices. Wasn't sure if they're worth their cost in shipping. There are plenty of options for few hundred dollars.

Sorry can't post pics. Their website is so fkn annoying with chinese version of capchas and other spinny pop-ups.

Have a few family members that have worked for Ram way back when it was Dodge trucks. But as much as I like the things Ram has done it’s Stellantis that caused one to retire early. Plus they are having a fair amount of issues with thermostats and the water pumps on the intercooler side. But still nice to see someone bring back the inline six finally.

The $100 ebay turbo on my 3.0L makes as much power as my Tundra, probably the same shit Temu has :D

Thank you! That's great positive news! Did you have to get the computer tuned? I've no idea much on subject.

Take out rear seats and lose the spare. It'll give you a little boost:turtleride: I don’t have rear seats(in the shed) and planning to remove 15yr old spare. 4.6l feels decently zippy.

Well official channels don't make anything for 4.6l, so it's only natural to look into secondary alternatives. Some of those offerings on temu looked legitimately adequate.(in my uneducated opinion)

That application is a far cry from a Tundra, it's a stand alone ECU with the entire vehicle rewired from scratch. But my point being, you can get very cheap turbos that can do what you want. There's nothing particularly hard or special about turbocharging a vehicle, lots of people build their own turbo setups. A supercharger is a bit more application specific and less general purpose.

My wife has a GX460 which is anemically slow and I've debated getting a supercharger for it (Harrop makes one, that XAT sells) or turbocharging it and just building my own setup. It's definitely possible to boost your 4.6, the biggest issue is tuning but VF Tuner I think has access to your ECU nowadays so the 4.6 trucks can be tuned.

Harrop, bullet, and maybe also Elate MFG all make a 4.6 Supercharger. What other components outside of the supercharger itself are applicable with the tundra application I do not know but the biggest hurdle is the head unit fits. Bullet and Elate use the Harrop head unit in their kits. https://bulletcars.com/product/supercharger-4-6l-v8-1ur-fe/

That's awesome, so whats the story on the unique exhaust layout? I seen that it kinda S shapes on one side. Just curious as to the research and story on that exhaust. Haven't heard a lot online but does have a more unique tone over others.

The S makes the pipes equal length which evens out the tones.

As mentioned above it the equal length portion of the exhaust system to maintain velocity etc which also gives it a unique tone. Equal length systems have been around forever lots of information online showing the benefits. Makes the tundra sound how it should like a smooth revving V8/LS. At least i personally think so.
