I had the torqbyte version of this...fully tunable based off RPM and boost, rather than the standalone boost controller units. I preferred that setup simply because I didnt want the system coming on prior to being at a certain RPM and load range. Big turbo....took a while to spool.

Personal recommendation, which is contrary to the other controllers; I ran the pump at 100% duty cycle all the time (most pumps have an internal bypass which works fine...just replace the head every so often), and PWM the fast acting valve (aquamist valve).

I'm drawing a blank at the mix ratio, but it was a higher water content than alcohol.

Most people just run straight methanol or Denatured alcohol...without realizing that the water is the actual knock suppressant. Water is incompressible, and will not detonate. Its octane rating is infinity. SO personally, id recommend a higher water concentration than methanol to provide knock suppression, steam cleaning/steam engine effect and then the methanol will provide supplemental fueling support, and bring combustion temps down even more.

 

Altitude affects the performance of octane ratings. Here in Utah, around 4200ft, we have 85 at our pumps. I'm told 85 here is similar to 87 at sea level. I always run 87/88 in the Tundra (in my three-month long ownership). I'll be towing as high as 8000 this summer.

 

Depending on the store, around here it's anywhere from $0.60 to $1.24/gal. In many different vehicles, I've seen a slight improvement in mpg. But it's never justified the higher price. Same with e85 for my 2014 Tundra. It was only $0.25/gal less, but per mile, the regular gas was more economical.

 

Throttle seems to respond like it should. I get a slight rough idle at stop lights on 87. That seemed to go away. Time will tell I guess.

 

What are your thoughts on running a few tanks of premium to help with carbon build up? Seems that the big 3 gasoline makers (Exxon, Chevron, Shell) advertise the cleaning aspects of premium. Retailers like Valero, Marathon, Walmart, Costco, or other grocery chains don't seem to have the same cleaning properties as these 3.

 

top tier fuel and also station maintenance is very important before you get to octane.

shitty stations with not the correct maintenance are to be avoided. slow pumps are indication of vapor leaks or clogged filters

gasoline is very dirty with a lot of sediment in it, we remove UST systems all the time, you have to shovel out 55 gallon drums worth of shit in every tank. Here is one I was on years ago, just a little guy though, 6-8K

 

I ran 87 on mine for the first 35k miles. Had to make a 1,300 mile round-trip and decided to run 91 on the trip for that exact reason. That was 5k miles ago and I haven't gone back to 87.

It made no difference in MPG but the truck responds much better.

I’ve owned a nonhybrid and hybrid. Engine response is much better on premium on both. If you’re adding performance mods, it’s a must if you care about maximizing your engine response.

 

Same, I've driven mine with 87 and 93, agree MPG is really no different, but response is better and it definitely sounds and idles smoother with 93. I try to only put Shell VPower in mine, but will do Exxon if not available. Not a lot of Chevron left in TN

 

can't find anything here at local pumps over 91 which is all I have ever run. Gas without corn derived fuel additive is even better.

 

With my german cars and trucks I had that were blown(turbo'ed E63's and the truck was supercharged) we ran e40 tunes - anyone working on that for the Tundra yet ? it unplugged crazy Hp with some larger injectors and freeing up airflow and in some cases dual-fueling systems...

that said, I'd stay more conservative , but an extra 100 hp would be fun...

 

Hey, I'm interested Manchester. And yeah, I tried E85 for a couple of tanks and it's cheaper but I don't get as good of MPG. So it's a wash for me.

You may get a small bit of extra timing advance, boost and power at high loads but, sorry, no way premium "idles better". Just the placebo effect. All grades of decent fuel brands get detergent.

 

I believe there's a "100% stock" member running E30 pretty much full time with a spicy-ish JB4 tune.

Cool - I am going to chat with the folks who tuned the Merc's I had to see if they'd consider developing a tune and use my rig as test case... we did that for my C63 track car... and they did the E63 wagon.

The E63 was incredible in how it took E40 with larger injectors and in intake and some minor other tweaks....

 

JB4 tuner box is the only "E30" option. It's simply a higher boost map....no additional timing or EGT bypass, etc. Been on the juice for 3yrs now, no problem.

 

Since we are on the topic of which gas is better. I want to know what oil is better. I have been running the Penzoil Natural Gas made oil and I feel a difference. So what do you guys recommend to go alone with the 93 gas. Also was tinking of changing the plugs while I am at it for the extra HP/TQ/MPG gains. Every little bit counts.

 

I love using Castrol Edge every 5k miles. It meets the ILSAC requirements. I’ve tried Mobil 1 and the Fuel economy version and didn’t like it. The Mobil 1 felt like the oil the dealerships use.

Every oil change I got from the dealership I’ve been to in Florida and Nevada between both my nonhybrid and hybrid have felt sluggish. MPGs were also worse with the dealership oil changes from my experience.

With this new Tundra, I’ll let the dealership change the oil but it won’t stay long since DIY oil changes with better oil is so cheap. I’ll keep the oil filter they put in. I’ll treat it as a drain and flush service lol.

 

I wear shorts and flip-flops in northeast winter and pee before jumping into the truck in order to reduce GVWR and have more powah on the wheels.

This *almost* sounds serious.
Along the lines of @vtl 's recommendation, I also recommend a healthy bowel movement every morning before jumping in the truck.
It's good for you, and it's good for increased power and mileage. Win - win.
