You're right, hydroplaning on slick tires didn't happen because I changed them preemptively. It happened because of several factors, one of which was my failure to have adequate tread depth on my tires during a time when conditions were unsafe. Hope you feel better now!

Uhhhh… semi truck passing on the shoulder within inches, other truck passing in the left lane, at 75 mph… maybe I wasn’t dramatic enough?? That was one of the times in life I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it out the other side. Similar experiences in life I would compare it to include such things as: malaria in a 3rd world country without access to healthcare, meningitis, rock strike on exposed face of the grand Teton..

Almost being hit by a truck is not the same as almost dying. Nothing actually happened. Even a near miss is still a miss.

I too have had malaria, three times. First time I did almost die. Categorically different than something that almost happened.

Is this standard on most car fuel pumps? I never gave it much thought (my 38 g Tundra takes 29 g when says empty)

Not for a column shift apparently? I could not get the large tank with the column shift when ordering new? Referring to a 21 model SR 4x4 longbed

So in your mind, almost being hit by a truck(which btw happens every time you are on the shoulder of a road or at an intersection) is the equivalent near death experience as actually contracting a life threatening illness. Got it.

    Correct.

I believe the logic from the factory went something like this: either pick the additional weight of the column shift (which comes with an additional seat and increased possible occupancy number of 6) or the added weight of 13 gallons of fuel. But you can’t have both.

My ‘21 DCRB TRD has the larger tank but no column shift. Weight savings seems to be the popular idea as to why you can’t opt for both, but in reality that doesn’t make a huge difference. My truck empty and stock scaled WAY lighter than the payload curb weight would suggest, even with me in it and a full tank of gas.

"even a near miss is still a miss"

You said it, not me. Then you go on to say that you almost died from malaria, confusingly measuring your almost, with someone else's and coming to the conclusion that your almost, is somehow more.

On the entire internet, that's the dumbest thing I've ever read.

So in your mind there is zero difference between being almost hit by a truck and actually contracting a life threatening illness and almost dying from it. Got it. So when you are on the side of a road and trucks are speeding by and "almost" hitting you, this is almost dying. If you are stuck there for some time, do you almost die each time a truck passes? If that is your definition of a near death experience, we have different definitions.

I haven't said anything about near death experiences. Or speeding trucks. I am only contesting your inability to grasp why your "sliding scale" interpretation of the word almost has not only been a logical fallacy, but at this point continues to be comically idiotic.

You are correct, but with a little elbow grease the 38 gallon tank can be installed into any 2007 and up Tundra. Like you said, I had to move the brake lines and space the E-Brake pivot up and we welded the front tank crossmember in and I also changed the straps to the ones with built in studs so I could use the OEM skid plate. the only things I cant fix is the MILES TO empty in the combination meter. The 2010 was never offered with the 38gal so the calculation isn't there. I just know I have an extra 120 miles on top of what my miles to empty says.

This is entirely about near death experiences, or put another way, almost dying. We apparently have different interpretations about what almost dying means. How would you define almost dying?

If you were trailering that 6 gallons would only be about 60 miles. So they had to account for if you were towing in their calculations, they'd rather underestimate remaining miles to empty then have people run out of gas thinking they had more.

I upgraded my 2016 to the large tank, it’s not a piece of cake but if you are mechanically inclined and have the appropriate tools you can do it yourself. It’s a little harder on a 2014 vs 2016 and up as the 14/15 need holes drilled for the crossmember and the e-brake cable needs modification.

This is it right here. If you are towing to the max and getting 7mpg, you will have 50 miles to solve your problem. This sounds like a lot but when I was out west it is very easy to chew up those 50 miles. When driving empty of lightly loaded you have what seems like a huge reserve.
I have found that this 50 mile rule seems to ring true on every vehicle that I have owned with a fuel light.
Personally, I don't buy the keep the pump cool theory. I agree that it is better for the pump but I do not believe that if I run my tank low that it will harm the pump. That seems like crappy engineering if I need to do that.....

It's totally a thing that'll burn fuel pumps up but that needs to be a repeated thing over awhile like a year that every tank you run it below a few gallons remaining. Most of us don't do that. I see pump issues on motorcycles that could have only a gallon for a reserve, but that's 50 miles. People who routinely run that reserve to half can see pump issues.

Good job! You're on the right track.

Thinking you almost died because you almost got hit by a truck is not the same as thinking you almost died because you, for example, got a life threatening illness or got shot in the chest and had emergency medical intervention to save your life. One is actually almost dying and one is not. Can you pick the right one? How far away does lightning need to strike before you consider that it almost struck you? How far away from, or close to death do you have to be before you think you almost died? Or perhaps are you a relativist and think that as long as you believe something is true, then it's true? Lots of people nowadays seem to hold that position.
