Yes I am using Car Scanner. I was originally using OBD Fusion however when I saw this thread I switched.

I would like to have this integrated in Carplay. I do not want to have another screen.

I am currently using the micro mechanic BT adaptor.

I'm using the Carista OBD dongle but if your phone is connecting to the OBD dongle you have, it "should" work. You can see the connection profile I'm using in this pic.

Yeah my setups look similar. I will try my Carista dongle when I get home.

I have this adapter also, but run a fully separate screen with the scangauge 3. Is there an app that runs in carplay that will use the Veepeak to give info? Or just use your phone?

I was in the same boat as you Mike. I wanted to run a scan gauge, but I wanted something more integrated and economical so I chose to go thru Car Scanner and link it to CarPlay. There is a small delay but it’s helpful to know the temps and customization efforts done by the developers are enough for me to pay $5-6. Not to sound like a rep for Car Scanner but I truly love this app because it lets you log data and scan codes.

If you would like to learn more about Car Scanner search the OBD2 thread under 3rd gen section and you’ll see many helpful posts about getting it setup.

This is what my screen looks like.

    Car scanner has it.

You have to select the Toyota 2016+ category

Anyone else have trouble with car scanner only showing the top 4-5 gauges on the list on the infotainment screen?

Yes. Just noticed this the other day. Was going to send a note to them to let them know. I also noticed that when I put it in park, the rest of the gauges show up. Can you try that on yours to see if you get the same results? Also, are you using AA or Car Play? Thx

Yes! I start with the full list and it drops to 4 when I put the truck in gear. When I go back to park, they come back!

Has anyone had any updates or fixes for this? At this point I feel my torque converter is going out - as others have stated, when I accelerate with a heavier foot, shifts are smooth and snappy. Light throttle and slowly coming to a stop, feels like I'm going to get stranded soon.

I did go ahead and disconnect my negative battery terminal to reset the transmission learning - though I really didn't think it was the shift maps causing the issue as I've dealt with that kind of issue on my old Tacoma and this feels mechanical, not software related... No difference, it actually shifts a little worse and harsher now.

I'll take it to the dealer in the next couple of weeks when I have time, unless I get stranded first. I love so many aspects of this truck, but living in a city, it's NOT fun to drive right now.

What mode do you drive in often?

I have dealt with harsh shifts and I can assure you it’s just the way this truck learns from your driving behavior. Not sure what exactly causes it to learn the harsh shifts occasionally but I have always found that letting the truck go thru some gears at WOT makes the transmission shift really smooth from 1-2 forward.

95% of the time I’m in eco mode as I have gotten used to the throttle mapping and the shifts are more pronounced than normal mode but this is because of low transmission fluid temps. Before you drive off try going thru P to R hold for 5 secs then N for 5 secs and D. Wait for the rpms to drop to 1000 and you should be ready to drive off. I’ve noticed a much smoother 1-2 shift on cold starts when I do this.

Hope this helps, I’ve wasted a lot of time with dealers and the bottom line is techs don’t get paid enough to chase down harsh shifts and Toyota won’t let the dealer warranty a new transmission for a small concern like that. I think the root cause is definitely related to programming and possibly aging fluid. There are way more detailed threads and explanations on this forum. Look up posts by rlc177 he has actual data you can use to understand what the truck is trying to do.

from what i remember, lockup starts in the gear that is 1:1.

    5th gen this was 4th
6th gen this should be 7th per the manual

also 10th gear will not engage until usually 80/81 mph (or in someone else's case 78mph)

thanks - I sure as hell hope (odd as it sounds) there IS something mechanical going on. I'm familiar with the learning transmissions, but what I'm experiencing feels like significant degradation in shift performance. The first 8,000 or so miles, my transmission felt the smoothest of any vehicle I've ever owned. Almost like a CVT the shifts were so smooth. To go from this to the harshness - especially the stickiness in lower gears under moderate throttle is annoying... Will do some more reading - thanks again

also - I do NOT have, and have never really had the delayed acceleration from a stop that many have complained about. I truly feel my transmission is generally trying to be in the right gear I would expect, it just has a hard time getting there, feels like someone is driving a manual for the first time.

It happens in much lower gears on third gens. As low as third gear.
