Thanks for the add! I have a 04 with the v8 and recently the idler pulley by the fan went out and my serpentine belt broke, I was told there may be a way to remove/ replace just that pulley so I don’t have to replace the waterpump/timing belt. Or is there a way to do away with this pulley and re route the (shorter) belt? Thanks in advance

Idler pulley is easy, just remove your serpentine belt, unbolt your idler pulley, bolt the new one on, then reinstall your serpentine belt. I would highly suggest you check all your other pulleys for play and your belt as well.

Your timing belt is a separate belt, and takes a bit more work to get to.

Yeah I’ve already removed the pulley but the piece it bolts to is where the bearing is and that’s the bearing that has failed. It’s in the water pump housing. It’s the flange the pulley bolts to it’s on a shaft, the shaft is short and inset into the water pump.

Can you post a picture? The bearing is a part of the pulley assembly. The bearing is what the bolt goes through when installing the idler pulley.

Had to look that up. In my world, POTS means Plain Old Telephone Service / Publicly Offered Telephone Service!

First off, thanks everyone for the kind words and worry for my wife. We’re back home, with no answers… we’re in southern MS btw. Here’s a pic where the pulley bolts on.

Thats the fan clutch bracket. Can't do away with it.

Good news is, that bolts in front of the water pump and timing belt. So those don't have to be changed (unless it's time for them).

Ok so can I remove it without tearing out the waterpump? Or do I need to go ahead and tear this thing down and do the water pump and timing belt

For parts, you need to have been here for a certain period of time, and have 50 contributive (i.e. non-spammy, legitimate) posts before you can post. I don't remember the time frame. The moderators take Buy/Sell ("BST") violations and reply-padding to reach BST thresholds very seriously.

The marketplace for 1st gen is here - anyone NOT selling can reply all they want: https://www.tundras.com/forums/1st-gen-tundra-parts-marketplace-2000-2006.4/

The community megathread contains links to every possible piece of maintenance info you could need for your 95%+ of your new-to-you truck: https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/

Near the top, like the 5th line or something is a link to the electrical wiring diagrams: https://www.tundras.com/threads/ultimate-tundra-wiring-diagrams-collection.81448/

Grab the diagram for your year. The connectors you're looking for are H1 (driver side) and H2 (passenger side) if I recall right, and sometimes I don't.

According to the OEM harness conductors you're pinching, they appear to be Red w/White tracer(high beam), Blue(low beam) and the last wire can't really tell but it's either White w/Blue tracer(ground) for a DC or White w/Green tracer(ground) for an AC. It also appears to be passenger side.

Red is hooked up, so I would assume the Blue of OEM harness goes to the light blue?? of the Non OEM black connector. The ground conductor of the OEM harness would then go to black of the Non OEM black connector.

Seeing the backside of the black connector would help. The below is OEM connector....
