I think a small hole in the piston or so my might’ve heard some pinging but thought it was heat shield rattle on the headers which I fixed but seems may have been some pinging maybe a failed ring

 

Performance MRP makes custom length and diameter straight tubes but it may not be any help to you. If I recall the Manusons dont go straight in.

So I got her all done and buttoned up...it definitely took me 4 hours at least...but I'm happy! The new pan is a beast and I've opted to not throw on my cat shields until my next oil change in a couple thousand miles...those took me longer to take off than I'd like to admit! I only used and needed 10quarts of fluid through the whole project. A lot continues to come out once you remove the VB...it's an f'n mess but kitty litter kept it mostly contained.






Driving impressions: f'n legit! Solid shifts, and they don't hang or make me want to curse if I was on the phone. It just feels like good, clean shifts. It definitely tightened up what I experiencing as slop. Gear engagement from Park is quiet and no longer clunks (thus far) and full WOT runs did nothing but make me smile...definitely holds so much better. Had I known about these VBs earlier in my ownership, it'd been the first thing I do.

How many miles on your truck? Any trouble getting the pan bolts out? That is the only part I’m not looking forward to.

I crossed over 106,664 miles and had zero issues with bolts anywhere on the disassembly. I did do a fluid swap at 80k with new filter so I'd imagine that's a bonus for today's work and no stuck bolts. They only have like 39 inch/lbs of torque so they aren't hard to pop off with an impact driver. You got this...I was dreading doing this but man, that video that WAT did was super helpful! Just remember, their "driver's side" is opposite of us NA owners! I used x4 cans of brake cleaner to get the bell.housing and bits factory clean, and one in the existing VB to send back...to WAT or Cruisers, I know not, yet...

All I know is this VB upgrade (Extreme version) is a huge, noticeable driving improvement!

 

Good to hear on the pan bolts, mines the remanufactured so fingers crossed that they come easy. Great falls for me and HS in Billings. I'll be heading to Billings in July

Yes sir, it's a PML transmission pan...got it in the GB deal a few months back. B&M also has a great pan available that @reywcms is rocking with success!

You might want to go through a few of your recent videos and take a look at your WOT pulls. I feel like after seeing this video, she may have been hurt before today. I assumed it was just exhaust condensation somehow tied to the dumped exhaust, but now Im here writing this.

Doesn't change anything, but might help narrow down when it started and what you recall the baseline being before hand.

Does anyone make a "shift kit"? Rather than having to buy a whole VB..

I also think that it may have been hurt before this as well. Would explain the plugs going bad causing the no crank issue etc.

I doubly feel your pain (triply?)

I took the BMW motor to the builder, I melted somewhat every piston & a piece of a valve!!!

On the happy news, on the 765 mile round trip I averaged 15mpg, best tank 18 (I filled up by 1/4-1/2 trying to get as many samples as possible. worst 9.

The Sequoia ran great!

I left the house thinking hypermiling, made it 20 miles before an asshat was furnishing the fast lane & that was it. On the trip, I pissed off 2 F150s a twin turbo AMG Mercedes and a fuhraz 370z.
