I can offer insight into this.
I'll start by mentioning i'm Canadian and am not suggesting Americans follow our gun philosophy or anything like that but here there is no capacity here for concealed carry unless you're law enforcement.
For the rest of us to legally obtain a handgun or "restricted firearm" means police history check, an application process that is vetted similarly to a passport application and a separate application process to certify for ammunition purchase of any firearm restricted or otherwise.
This is a government run program that requires certification to instruct along with the content for them to convey. Overall it largely filters out the future red flags for legal ownership.

You use a magnetic keycard to open it, so it's secure from kiddos

& on the note of local rules & customs...my lovely town requires head of household to be armed. It's been a town law since '82.
We have no police & you must defend yourself in a bad situation.
    Everyone is armed
There is virtually no crime btw

I appreciate your input, but you lost me at 'a permit to purchase ammunition' and 'red flag'...
The thought of needing a government permit just to buy anything firearm-related is ridiculous, IMHO.

It used to be in Texas you couldn't carry without a permit.
Getting a permit consisted of an 8-hour class with range time and state background check.
I had no problem with that, but now with 'constitutional carry' any idiot can carry that is ALLEDGEDLY legal to do so..

Some may say that makes me a hypocrite, saying you need a permit to carry and not to purchase.
To many, that is the same thing; to me it is not.
I'd much rather anyone carrying a firearm in public have SOME kind of training and knowledge of what they are getting into.
To know the legal ramifications and parameters of self-defense, imminent bodily harm, and what can happen even in a justified shooting situation.
But that's just my worthless opinion..

see what you're missing is i'm not trying to "get you" lol. In all honestly I was just letting one fella that asked what the road to certification was and how teaching practices take place and how the laws work here with firearms. nothing more, nothing less :)

Interesting decision given your stated feelings on gun carrying citizens.

    I did?
Where exactly did I ask what a Canadian carry permit certification might look like?

    Perhaps you are confused by this post;
That was a joking response to this post, and that quote reads STATES, not provinces or territories.

    I hope you understand now..

This is a terrible situation that happened. People declared insane going to non prison and getting out is an escape imo. I finished a book recently, “fiction” but easily reality, where a serial killer was dual personality. A very good actor who fooled the shrinks, except one. He was a serial killer, that was finally caught “so he could get recognition” of his recent crimes. He escaped once after convincing a guard to help him escape. Very disturbing world we live in.
About 30 years ago we lived in a “nice” neighborhood. The neighbors’ kid got involved with some drug related thing, someone was killed and the house was torched. We were at work at the time, so I pulled up to my street with cops and fire department presence. Hard to forget those moments.

I don't "carry" in my house but I do have a weapon within arm's reach generally all the time. Being retired LE I've seen enough to know that there's an element out there that doesn't care about anything but their own needs, be it drug money, items to steal and fence...it just happens all the time and frequently in very nice, even exclusive neighborhoods. I saw recently where a crew of illegals were hitting professional athletes' homes. The fools couldn't resist social media and took pics with the stolen goods, and I believe they were caught, processed and deported.

Carrying a weapon is a huge responsibility, I honestly would prefer not to carry at all, but I run into some old clients pretty often and even though I've generally only had a few contacts that could've gone either way, I just don't want any conflict anymore. My neighborhood is nice, I have some great neighbors and one ex-con who I've dealt with for years, he's currently doing 15 years now in NKSP for ADW/GBI (assault w/deadly weapon not F/A, with great bodily injury). He's been locked up since 2023 and has already had a parole hearing....it was denied thank God.
I believe that it's better to have and not need than to need and not have. Just my .02

I have been waiting to reply to this thread since this morning. I'm not going to quote anyone but....

Not sure why some people think that if you have a crime spree in an area one should just jump up and move? Why? I'm not causing the crime. I have a low interest mortgage (under 2.6). I personally live in a very nice area...one of the nicest in Colorado Springs. If I were a career criminal, I would only go to nice neighborhoods...they have nice shit. Something else to consider when criminals choose nice areas:

-Most likely working to have said nice shit.
-Most likely would just call police and file an insurance claim vs a criminal/civil lawsuit.
-Might be a whenever home. I know several multi million dollar homes that are only used a few times per year in my area.
-Did I say they have nice shit to steal?

I'm not sure how many people have had a home invasion or an attempted one, but shit moves pretty fast if you are not ready. Mine was slow (bump keying the locks) and it still was fast. Had they just busted a window or kicked in the door, if we are being honest I'm not sure I would have responded quick enough from a dead sleep at 10:30 AM. I would have had to defend from my Master Bedroom and my dog would most likely have been killed. I was tired, worked a night shift the night before, had my AR-15 and G17 out next to my bed. They had a plan for my German Shepherd since they knew he was there and was trying to rip down the door (he is a trained/retired police dog). My dog even cut me with his canines trying to wake me up and pull me out of bed. I was pissed until I realized what was going on. He was going crazy so I grabbed the AR-15 just in case. Glad I had...they already had one of my locks defeated and working on the second. It took a total of 2.5-3 seconds to kinda figure out what was going on. The whole situation took 7 seconds tops. I've had farts longer than that.

If someone wants to carry a weapon on the property so be it. Seconds count, and getting off the couch and running to wherever your home defense weapon is....good luck. I've taken a lot of training from some of our nations finest. Preparation and surprise is your ally.

This is literally from inside my home as I type this. Seven windows and a slider and all the window coverings are closed. I don't want anyone to know who or where we are. Let them FAFO.

What you don't see is if you pan over a little.....

Disney does not 'officially' employ or staff w/armed security. However, they are known to hire a fair amount of 'off-duty' LEOs from the area, some of which are plain clothes and I'd bet they are carrying concealed.

However, with that being said, response time (unless something goes down right in front of one of them) is going to be marginal at best. Either way, an active shooter in a facility like that is going to ruin some lives... :(

They are a handful, so be warned. Mine is very alpha and you can never let him get the upper hand. That is actually how we got him. One of my besties trained him for a PD and was doing fine except being around other dogs. If they didn't give up alpha he was fighting.
He is great around familiar people, loves his cats and chickens.

IMO if you're not confident carrying with one in the chamber you may want to reconsider if you should be carrying at all. However, it's your choice and yours alone so far be it from me to judge but I'd rather not spend my last seconds trying to rack my gun in the middle of an incredibly stressful situation.

    Agreed.

Same reason I don't carry my Shadow 2 without the safety being extended like a 1911.

    I concur.
I'm also not a fan of manually manipulated thumb safeties, except for a 1911/2011 type single-action handgun.
At least on a carry or SD pistol, but to each their own..
