If you can get to the wire harness and connector end that plugs into the switch, maybe you could identify if there are any spots vacant? I can compare what you have to what mine shows? I still have my trim removed for other mods I plan on doing so it’s easy to pop out and check the connector and wires.

Then we could narrow down if some have a different wiring harness that are missing some wires possibly to make the MTS work.

Definitely, I think that might clear up what trucks it’ll work for. I’ll take a pic whenever I swap the old one back in, likely on Sunday or Monday.

Sounds good. I’ll try to get a pic tomorrow. Then we can track the wires in the circuit diagram.

I still want to know why crawl does not work. You don't need the rear lock for it to run.

I’ve explained above, it is very likely the brake booster is entirely different from the TRDs to non.

To summarize the 10pages before this post:
This is NOT a 100% solution. There are some SR5s that this isn't working for them.
It looks like Limited and up - this appears working for most.

    WORKS:
Only the MTS system will get enabled by this switch swap and those only show up in when shifted into 4H/4L. You get 4 different modes on each.
From some other posts, some mention you CANNOT turn on MTS while stopped even in 4H/L - you need to be moving.
Hard to confirm, but many have stated it's affecting their trucks (throttle, abs/traction).

    DOESN'T WORK:
Crawl does not work - it looks like something is missing, some ECU - no one is sure, no one has that working.
This appears to NOT add the 'under the truck' camera.
People have tried looking to see if it's the rear diff-locker - but to no avail.
People have replaced some of the ECUs - but to no avail.

    Correct Part Number: 84970-0C010
(Don't accidentally get others as variations of the same switch are out there as 84970-0C020 84970-0C030)

Dealer that will ship for free, and appears to be one of the lowest priced ( at time of writing $175 shipped )
    Combination Switch Assembly #84970-0C010 | Autoparts.toyota.com

MTS only (no Crawl/DAC) with switch swap - working for trims:
'22 platinum hybrid with AVS/air suspension
'23 platinum hybrid with AVS and air suspension
'24 Limited gas, with PVM & premium package
‘24 SR5 with TRD Sport premium package and SR5 convenience package.
'24 Limited Gas non TRD OR with PVM, BSM, JBL, Premium Lighting Package and Towing Package
'25 Limited non hybrid. Premium package, PVM.
(mine) '25 1794 iForceMax (Hybrid). All the things 1794 + Power Running Boards + Tailgate.

    Not Working:
22 SR5 4x4 about as vanilla spec as it gets, no options
    23 Limited

In time someone may figure it out more...

Thanks for the update. Maybe I missed it in the thread, but is there any concrete confirmation that this does anything other than show the modes on the dash? I know there were a couple of folks that said they thought it did something, but did it really do anything? Just the engineer side of me asking out if curiosity. Thanks.

Great summary. I've got some pics ready to send on the wiring for my harness that the MTS worked with. Hopefully this will add to some help on this thread and for @chrisgibbs707 with his rig. I'll try to upload tonight when I get some time.

I am also trying to figure out how to test this to see if it really does anything (I'm also an engineer - can't turn that part of my brain off lol). A part of me thinks that if the truck is accepting it and shows up that it's working but still want some quantitative evidence that it's working somehow.

The manual doesn't offer any great detail on how each mode works. If you knew for instance that snow mode started the truck in 3rd gear, one could verify that using an app like Car Scanner.

I talked to my service advisor today and asked him about MTM. If anybody has already been through this, please let me know before I move forward. But this is what he said.

"We just looked through the calibration repair manual and there’s a way to cycle through all the different views, it’s just a matter of making a permanent adjustment. We may have to just mess around with it with the tech stream next time you’re in."

Well, add mine to the list of working:

I can honestly say I believe it to actually be affecting things within the electronics of the truck. As you move through the modes, certain ones will disable VSC and PCBA. Truck still has 700 miles on it, so I'm not going to go adventuring just yet and really, it's a pavement pounder.

are the buttons being backlit? The actual words on the button? I’m realizing mine doesn’t do this at all. In fact I don’t think my 4WD selector is backlit either.

The only way I can think of is to have those rollers that people test 4x4 systems with, I've seen on multiple reviews.
Trying it out with different modes, would be that proof.
Yes 100% they are backlit, but only when my headlights are on (as other dash lights - light up - those do too).

Okay, this might be a lengthy post but hopefully it helps. My switch works from the swap and I’ll explain what wires I have to help identify why some may work and others don’t.

    the connector is Q5:

    upload_2025-4-2_20-57-58.jpg

You have to read the harness wires backwards from what’s above for the receiver in the switch. Here is the top row for mine. Have to read it from right to left in the count. Mine starts with green in #2, then I have wires occupied in #4-8:

    upload_2025-4-2_21-2-7.jpg

Then the bottom row reading from left to right (I flipped the harness connector end for end for the pic). I have a wire in #10 then #12-16 are occupied:

    upload_2025-4-2_21-3-50.jpg

So here’s what all that means:

    #2 - ILL+ or Illumination +
#4 - CANH or Canbus high
#5 - CANL or Canbus low
    #6 - P ??
    #7 - PSW2 ??
    #8 - ILL- or Illumination -
#10 - IG or Ignition switched
    #12 - PSW1 ??
    #13 - HSW ??
    #14 - SWO4 ??
    #15 - SWO2 ??
    #16 - E or Earth/ground

    upload_2025-4-2_21-10-12.jpg

    upload_2025-4-2_21-10-41.jpg

    upload_2025-4-2_21-11-4.jpg

Now if someone had a dictionary as to what all the abbreviations mean that would be awesome lol

So in other words, my harness has all these wires that are called out for this connector in the circuit diagrams. I suspect some of those that this switch doesn’t work with are missing some wires in their connector. Most likely the Canbus ones that do the communication.

Also, for those wanting to figure out DAC/Crawl mode, I am guessing the answer is somewhere within the circuitry from pages 11-18 in the 2022+ circuit diagram pdf. That’s the whole section for the gas engine DAC/Crawl wiring (among other things).

If it’s not a matter of missing wires or modules, then it’s some kind of programming and if that were the case then I have no ideas on how to activate it ourselves.

I lied, my stuff is backlit. I put it in 4lo too and noticed it yelled at me for drive modes. But pushing MTS button is completely unrecognized. Oh well.

so my buddy has the trd offroad and when he is in 4L to get the Crawl to work he has to turn his locking differential on. I was going to do this to my platinum, don't know if it's worth it for the MTS, I mean the drive modes look cool and all.

Very odd. Not on my ‘23 Lim TRDOR. Think about that for a moment. If you locked the rear axle then Crawl would not work across the rear end. It’s whole purpose is to modulate all 4 wheels independently to get maximum traction out of the wheels with the most grip.

No mention in the manual of locking the rear end. *BUT We may have found why some say adding the MTS switch say it didn’t work for Crawl. - Drivers door must be Closed, Xfer case in 4L, must be shifted into D or R. Doesn’t come on in P or N?
