"Floating" Display Radio Headunits in FGTs a good fit?

Does an 8 or 9" screen size and 'floating' closer to the user really improve the viewing and/or control experience?
Also, How much better and how worthwhile for the extra cost ?

I see there are a few of the Big5 manufacturers incorporating 'articulating screens' in their "Floating" design that allows for some screen position adjustment.
Does this help the "cab/dash controls fit" aspect?

So, I'd like to see and hear from others that have gone this route in FGT's.

Im still on the fence as to what radio headunit replacement I'll commit my time and $ to install in this FGT.
Ive been researching here and offsite on updated fits/finish of the Big5 brands of radio headunits and what generally owners are installing; regarding how the 7" units fit FGT dash openings:
This thread [https://www.tundras.com/threads/rad...model-gen1-trucks.110711/page-2#post-3779306] about who makes what for Mount/Trim rings and what finish install looks like has me thinking of going bigger, as in 8 or 9 inch display Headunits.

My premise may be wrong, but seems that the FGT dash opening 'fit and finish' issue is eliminated by going to a larger [floating] display [if all else equal].
OTOH, it looks like there could be cab encroachment issues with TransShiftArm, AC airflow, visual or physical obstruction of dash controls?
Is the give back of a slightly larger screen view [especially for backing-up and maybe better screen bright/clarity in daylite] worth the space encroachment into the cab?

My biggest worry is the "stand-off" distance required between the touchscreen and the radio portion. The radio is set back in a cave several inches from flush with the surface.

Not sure I understand. I thought these floating units are a single surface w/buttons along bottom edge?

I feel like this one has been asked/discussed a few times.

I think the big beef is interference with the dash vents on either side of the radio opening. I know the 11" has pretty significant overlap with the dash vents. 9" doesn't appear (from pics on here) quite as bad. There are at least one or two people rocking the Alpine Halo9 I've seen, but I can't recall if it's any of our frequent flyers.

I've got a 10.1 floating screen and it does overlap a bit with the vents but I can still get plenty of air flow. There are no problems with the shifter interfering with the screen. Here's a photo in the middle of installing the headunit but it shows the fitment

My beef here is, when I don’t have the wife or kids in the car, sometimes I’ll kick both air vents over my way. That floating screen would kill it for me.

@Bmktw2, what brand HU is that?
The finish fit looks damn perfect in the smaller radio port of the earlier year FGTs.

The functionality, fit and finish is phenomenal on this unit Atoto brand. I recommend.

Won't fit the same for you. You have a 2006. He has a 2001. The opening size is wider in later years.

I think the crossover is 2003, IIRC. We talked about it before. It's right here: https://www.tundras.com/threads/rad...-model-gen1-trucks.110711/page-2#post-3764162

Read the 1st page of that thread if you want to see the radio trim options for our later model trucks.

@Shifty, Agreed, just curious about HU build.

Otherwise, too tedious to re-visit it all; suffice to say that when I bite-down and actually buy & install the ilx507, hoping by then I will have figured out a trim ring.
Given all the non-fit issues w/after market HU trim rings on these last years' FGTs, almost makes me wanna find an '01-02' truck! ["Almost", as in 'tongue-in-cheek'.]
