IMG_4158.jpg Going to work this morning started my truck engine made all kinds of noises and it’s knocking only 13054 miles towed to dealer she said it was the second TRD PRO to come in so far and there still isn’t a recall !!! Still love the truck but disappointed ☹️ IMG_4178.jpg IMG_4178.jpg 7332183147679734565.jpg

    Sorry about your troubles.

Please let us know what the dealership's diagnosis is, and what their remedy will be.

If this is the dreaded main bearing failure, I would not accept the short block repair without a fight.

This goes back to the inadequacy of the Toyota warranty for replaced engines. There is certainly some lingering concern if the problem was solved or not. And Toyota is putting the long term risk mitigation squarely with the customers and their bank accounts

Why I am still leaning toward the free engine card in my pocket vs volunteering for a replacement with very limited warranty

Oof. Sorry to see that OP. Brutal.

Out of curiosity, what is your production date? It's on the driver door vin sticker.

I read early 2024 Tundras were still receiving the "bad" engine block from the factory.

    Subscribed.

Keep us updated OP. Sorry about the truck. As stated above, if its engine replacement I would lean heavily on not receiving a short block. You may end up with it, but I wouldnt fold immediately and see if a long block or full engine replacement is possible

I don't believe that we've seen so far on this forum that a hybrid received a long block replacement. Hybrids have always been getting short blocks. Someone correct me otherwise

In our shop we have only done short blocks, outside of the recall long blocks. Now that being said EVERY of those short blocks got new cam gears, new front covers, new oil cooler, new strainer, and a FEW have gotten new turbos depending on if Toyota approves them based on the pictures we provide. Our techs want to do anything oil passes through when doing the short blocks.

And to reply to the early post, I was simply asking if he was using 5W-30 as some speculation is made that the engine failures are do to Toyota using 0W-20….not trying to argue with anyone, or trying to prove anyone right or wrong, just asking with no ill will towards anyone

For the life of me, I can't understand how Toyota is getting away with doing short block repairs for the exact same failure that others trucks are getting complete long blocks.

Just doesn't seem right to me.

Outside the recall means short block. Hybrids according to Toyota are not included in the recall. Sucks. Especially if they later on extend the recall to include OP’s VIN.

I’m less confident as time goes on that they will extend the recall window, but who knows. According to Not Ryan, it seems like it should be extended until at least Nov ‘24 build dates

not Ryan says the block cleaning was never really fixed and there were ongoing cleaning problems until them

the quality control dude got the boot there as well I think.

it does kinda add up, but we'll never know, but that would mean failures could happen into the early build 25s

I agree, it's not right. But I bet the bean counters at Toyota have it figured out based on their statistics and costs of doing repairs to minimize cost impacts. Sorry to say it's all about the bottom line now, not about doing what's right.

So all 3rd gens on the road...

Mine was built 9/24. Crazy to me that a truck built two months after the recall was issued might still be at risk.

The recall is incredibly expensive and damaging to Toyotas reputation.....How could they not have stopped the bleeding?

They stopped the bleeding by repairing the trucks as they do. They arent just repairing it if it happens they are replacing them preemptively.

I had a Hyundai Sonata with a Theta II motor.
Had some machine debris in there... What did they do?? Make the 100k / 10 year engine warranty transferrable and extended it to 125k.
Their fix? Re-program the knock sensor to detect rod knock and go into limp mode if you do.
Oh and a free oil change. No actual fix

This is a fair comparison. In 2025 Toyota's quality is compared to the darkest days of Hyundai, and it even fares better! Not something you can imagine back in 2021.
