Does a double cab bed fit on an access cab frame?

So i have a weird question for you guys. I just bought a 1st gen 2000 tundra access cab. I had in mind that those models has 6.5' (78 inches) beds but weirdly enough when i measured mine it was only 74.5 inches... So im wondering if its possible that the bed was changed entirely or did they produce some models with smaller beds?

My measure is the inside of the bed. What pics would you need more precisely?

You'll want to read THIS THREAD before you post any other questions (this is answered there, parts interchange, in the 'body types and why it matters' section, IIRC).

Even if the bolt holes are the same, the beds are totally different dimensions, the tailgate is different, the bedsides are different heights, body lines are different, so it's going to look like shit.

That's why im confused, because i read the thread and it says access cab is supposed to be a 78 inch bed but my access cab has a 74.5 inch bed...

The bed wall and tailgate would make up that extra 3.5” is my guess. Dunno what to tell you, I think the numbers in that community mega thread came from what Bubba pulled out of the brochures. I can tell you, if you go to various sites like Edmunds and look up info, it’s wrong there too. Parts vendors like DealTeuck rarely get it right either.

DC bed is a couple-to-few inches taller, and roughy 1-1.5” shorter than access cab. The tail lights anre wildly different, 50% larger. Tailgate has a very different body line. And regular cab bed is over a foot longer, if memory serves. There were no alternate bed sizes if we exclude stepsides. If you look at a DC bed next to an AC truck, you’ll see the difference. It’s pretty substantial.

Also worth noting the top of the AC bed is nearly vertical, as the DC cab is rounding forward. The lines are totally fucked. You can really look at the DC and tell they tooled the cab off the front half of the Sequoia, matching the rear cab wall to the shape of the rear Sequoia door (I believe they share doors) to make it look natural.

They do not share doors. Otherwise we would have a first gen suburbaqouia

If I did, this is the figures I would have posted. What I don't know is if the brochure dimensions for bed length are measured like @CocaDonut did.

It's also not clear where measurements are taken. Does inside mean inside rail to inside rail, bed wall to bed wall, widest point or narrowest point etc. Hence why everyone wans a pic!

That's what i thought but weirdly enough the measurement inside the bed is 74.5" inches. Unless the measurement is supposed to be outside the bed?

That sounds about right, i’ve got a 78” cot that doesnt quite fit with the tailgate closed.

Honestly, if I wanted to make one measurement and 'tell the difference'. it would be inside height. The DC is a fair bit taller. This is my DC inside height.

    Looks normal to me.

I guess what I'd be doing is measuring the length of the inside box, then from the top edge of the front bulkead to the center-line of a level held to the tailgate, so you get the overall length.

I suspect what you'll find is, the overall length is within ½" of 78"

Well, thanks everyone for the replies. Based on everything you said, im assuming it's not a DC bed. I just had it in my mind that the bed was going to be 6.5ft exactly. I guess it just depends on how you take the measurements! Thanks alot everyone

They're wildly different beds and body styles, sometimes it helps to see a over/under comparison - pay special attention to the rear tail lights and that area:

The trim I circled in red is an early year access cab exclusive. That is one distinctive characteristic of a OG AC FGT.
