Should I buy this 1794 with 21,000 miles but no warranty?

Hey everyone! I have found a truck I would like to buy. It’s a 2021 1794, with 21,000 on the ticker. After taxes and stuff it’s $56,000.

Has a lift, fuel wheels, TRD mufflers and sway bar along with soft cap.

It doesn’t come with a warranty. Sales lady said something about paying $1900 for a warranty.

Is price of truck without warranty good? Do these trucks need a warranty for common broken parts? This my first ever new truck, so just crossing my T’s and dotting my i’s.

56K seems steep to me. I see a bunch of them for sale under 50K miles under 50K in my area.

What are you going to use the truck for? What type of lift is on the truck? Do you like the wheels? Lift plus steps, says pavement princess to me, so those wheels would be fine.

As for the warranty, I wouldn't worry too much about it on a low mileage 2.5 gen. What does that 1900 actually cover? If its just powertrain for a few years, it may be worth it, but more likely to just be 1900 spent for peace of mind.

If MPG is a factor you'll be lucky to get 12MPG in that truck with those tires and lift..
I agree the price seems a bit high.

I would certainly get under it and check for cam tower seepage or leaking.
Here is mine before I got it repaired so you'll know where to look.
It cost me $5k to get it repaired.

Will the existing lift kit and racing slicks somehow automatically void that $1900 warranty when it comes time to use it? Point being, read the fine print in the contract.

Thanks for the replies! It’s $51,000, but NY has to take their taxes out and the dealership is charging about a grand for documentation fee

This is what it would cost for the warranty
    Portfolio One(Warranty)
    72 months/100,000 miles - $2495
    84 months/125,000 miles - $2695
    96 months/150,000 miles - $2895
    > Things to know
    Bumper to Bumper coverage
    $100 deductible
    Good at any Toyota dealership
50% refund if you don't make any claims

x2, wasn't even a thought at the dealership. I did buy one later from Jerry.

I would not pay $56,000, lift and wheels mean nothing it's only worth maybe ~45k

can’t see the video, showing as private. I don’t have a way of checking the cam tower, it’s about 900 miles away

As far as usage goes, not too worried about mpg. Would be used for towing snowmobile trailer in winter, summertime maybe a small camper or car trailer. Off roading would be limited to relatively flat and dry ground, old logging trails

As @BeauDacious stated, the warranty is up to you for your piece of mind.

I bought my 2005 and 2014 Tundras new and got extended warranties on both.
Both were 7 year/75K miles warranties.

Never used it on either vehicle and got no refund.
    Knock on wood the only issues they had were;
2005 - the air pump went out at 95K miles, $3000 to fix.
2014 - cam tower leak at 110K miles, $5000 to fix.

I can't belive what people are paying for 4 year old trucks. I bet dealer paid at least 10k less than their selling it for.

    My 2 cents:

    - The lack of warranty wouldn’t concern me. The quality of work done including lift/accessories might. Can they show a receipt from who installed them or was it a DIY/buddy hooked me up kinda job. It’s amazing both the difference in quality of labor/parts pro shops use vs dude who thinks they know how to do it. Not that all DIY/semi pro jobs are crap - just like not all pros are perfect - just the ratio of problems is generally lower.

    - I’d worry more about rust than mechanical issues on a NY truck. Again - not that it may not be fine - just would want to check for signs of issues. It’s still early and even if signs of issues - they can likely be fixed right without future issues. For $2100 - I’d put that back for the next 5 years of your preferred under treatment than a warranty as the cancer will be the bigger concern the next 5 years untreated.

    - Price is about right for a low miles 2021. That truck sold new for the high 50s. I paid 54k in June 2021 for my Pro and the Pro is just a factory lifted Limited. 1794/Plat are higher grade and were like 4 grand more.

    - any signs of being used to tow anything ? Again - not a major issue if it was - just check trans fluid if so. Trans cooler is a must have to me if your towing regularly - but a lot of people cheap out.

Overall - I don’t think you’re going to find alot of sub 30k mile 2.5s and those that you do find will be priced for perfection. Truck holds value well and probably will for the next 5 years - which would be my concern of buying and holding a loan on something. Nothing like being 24 payments in and needing to pay 12 extra when you decide to trade it in because of all the negative equity.

Edit to add - my ToyotaCare extended coverage on my 2021 to 7 years/100k miles and cost like 860 in 2021. Yes, it’s now used and that’s not available - $2100 though seems a waste - even with “half back” (which like many rebate scams they probably give you 90 days to request and if you don’t remember to request they keep).

My 2021 Pro - offer on Carvana was 50,800 most recently (like 12k miles).

8-10k is about right - dealers got to make money too. Considering many used cars are marked up 30% even in a competitive market - 10k is 25% (pay 40-sell for 50). I’d feel more comfortable paying 50k for a 4 YO 2.5 high trim than I would buying a base 24-25 SR for the same money myself. Age is just a number - reliability and comfort are important to some buyers - to each their own.

NO. Stay away. That appears to be a 6 inch lift? I'd be worried they cut something they shouldn't of. Odds are it rides like crap, gets bad mpg, and has some sort of driveshaft angle issue at a minimum if not a cross brace cut as I've seen mentioned in other 6 inch lift threads.

Buy a different RED ;) truck. 51k plus taxes is stupid expensive.

I don't know man, the Carfax on dealers website has some red flags in my book.

KBB puts it around $49k, typical listing price around $50k for my area (AZ). That's with the topper and off-road tires/wheels. I would negotiate a bit off the $51k price if you can.

I personally wish I would've bought a truck that was closer to stock and then upgraded the wheels/tires/suspensions to my liking later on (hindsight is 20/20). But if you feel good about it, do what feels right to you. Best of luck.

Edit to add: I echo what others are saying, I wouldn't worry about the lack of warranty on a 2021 with 21k miles. I would ask about the truck history and why it didn't accrue any miles from 2023 - 2025 per the Carfax.

For reference, here appears to be a stock platinum https://atcm.co/VDPTXTSHRE/2c15dbe1

You could easily have it delivered, upgrade suspension and wheels and still be under 51k.

21,000 miles is great. $56,000 is expensive! Not sure what the market is like in your area, but have them sharpen their pencil on this one. You can bet they didn't pay the previous owner for those upgrades.

Too much $$$. The 1900 for warranty probably not.. and the 6 inch lift, IMO too much...

Lift and bigger tires add zero value to a vehicle sold from a lot. They are trying to take advantage of somebody who doesn’t know better. That truck is priced way too high as it sits. I usually see red flags when somebody buys a nice, loaded truck, spends more money on lift and bigger tires, then gets rid of it with low miles. Being the truck has no warranty either, ide walk away from it.

Looks to be a collective pass. There’s a better deal to be had and spec it out the way you want.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts, it’s really appreciated. I did confirm it has a 6 inch lift.

Thanks for pointing out the carfax. Even if it was sitting for a year for boring reasons, sitting for a year isn’t really a good thing. @1UP Can you elaborate a little further on why the lifts are bad? What’s a safe lifting height in general with these trucks?

FWIW, recently paid 39.5 for my 2019 SR5 CPO bone stock double cab. Truck only had 3300 miles and some nice options like LED headlights, bed rails and spray liner et.
The CPO wasn’t a must but 100k miles of powertrain and 12 months bumper to bumper doesn’t hurt.

If it was done cheap and or incorrectly, it's gonna cost ya. You have to cut your truck to make it work and if they didn't put in all the correct support pieces to accommodate the lift, your entire drive shaft and other bits geometry changes, (bad)

The Suspension subforum https://www.tundras.com/forums/suspension.19/ has has a lot of good reading in it.

Thanks again everyone for your help. I’ve backed out of the deal for this truck.

Back to searching. Looking specifically for a 21 or a 20, prefer the 1794. Anyone got any leads? I’ve been using autotrader and auto tempest to search, and I’m looking nationwide.

There isn't a whole lot different between trims. You could easily build that spec from a limited or platinum. Katskinz for the seat color and buying a few oem trim pieces.
