I removed the side panel, but it didn't help much, I just used a plastic trim tool & pried switch straight up, it popped out easily, just that short wire is a pain to deal with.

Oh, I see. Makes sense (despite some folks saying it can be a pain). I have added the gear shift panel trim cover (to cover the piano black finish) and now my access to the top of the switch assembly is severely limited (without risking damage to that aftermarket cover/sticker). Glad to know it works on the 2024 Limited, maybe one day I will give it a try (when my sticker cover gets damaged and will need to be replaced).

As we all know you can dig on the web for better pricing on all or any part, but I believe it was $178.
The computer module was fairly inexpensive too and from what was posted by Virgillus11 they were identically the same exterior wise "but" a 6 & 7 wire on the connecting harnesses is present on those model/trim pkg of trucks that actually has these factory options and have the 2 wires additional obviously.
He followed these additional wires back to the rear diff. and this is where the project lays, MTS allegedly works based of two people who have posted that it works but the Crawl mode will not and if attempted the dash cluster will light up.

Plugged mine in today. Worked for me as well. Limited hybrid 4x4 with PVM. For $175, you can basically handle 95% of trails near me. Sounds like a good deal to me. Assuming the trucks that have 4x4 w/o off-road package sit in the automatic range of the MTS, I don’t see why the MTS wouldn’t work. I noticed a difference just on the loose pavement going around my neighborhood. Can definitely feel a change in acceleration going from snow to dirt. Now to do more research into adding the crawl function .

Also wanted to add that I just removed it straight out of the center console. Took a minute to plug the new switch in. Not too difficult. No scratches on center console. I have the matte cover as well.

What do you mean straight out of the dash? As opposed to how?

I'm assuming you have AVS and load Leveling too.

Thanks for bringing this up. It has been edited. I pulled it straight out the center console. Need to use a plastic wedge tool.
No AVS and no load leveling equipped. That’s only the platinum option, right?

I'm not sure what the Platinum trim offered but the reason I had asked is that from what I read the load leveling isn't compatible with the MTS/Crawl mode.
For really short money it's worth replacing the switch and the only concern would be the accidental engaging of Crawl mode & have the dash cluster light up.

I think crawl doesn't work with any because you actually have to replace the diff or something. But why wouldn't the AVS and rear air work with MTS?

I tried to initiate crawl mode and nothing happened. No dash lights, and crawl didn’t light up. Possibly I only need to replace my diff to have all the features. I will most likely do this depending on the cost of the diff. Dealers near me were up charging on the off roads. If I can get it installed for the cost of the off road I will most likely update it if I struggle off road. Assuming the 4x4 limited are essentially the base version of an off road. I’m assuming because of the AVS on the platinums it throws errors. Not sure though.

Doesn’t make sense for it not to work unless there is something about the AVS and auto level that won’t allow it. Even then I would assume the platinum is essentially in the “Auto” part of MTS. Or the platinums are more advanced and the 4x4 is more intelligent. I say that with a grain of salt.

There was two Toyota packages that I couldn't add to my trim, one was the 3" lift and secondly was the MTS and Crawl mode.
Not knowing any better at the time when I made the Toyota plunge so to speak, I didn't ask the salesman as to why but gaining and learning information here I would have to guess that AVS would be the culprit.

That's a good point. You could not have the AVS and air package with the TRD OR package.

Just bought the MTS switch from Fred Anderson on sale for $131.

How Has everyone removed the switch from the top without pulling panels?

I used a plastic pry tool, started at the rear & it popped right up.

Actually used the same pry tool that came with my Auto start defeater. Worked great, no scratches.

Note- You are testing for Crawl in 4Lo correct? (I haven’t seen it mentioned here but it only works in Low range) Also, I’ve not read anywhere that there is a different differential for trucks with Crawl/Hill Decent. I’ve often wondered if there’s actually a different ABS controller or ABS unit since that’s a key part of its function. Overworking it will throw a warning light on the dash for ABS High Temp.

this is more inline with what I know about atrac/crawl. It doesn’t require the use of the locker so I don’t think that’s a limiting factor. My 06 4Runner had ATRAC and DAC and didn’t have anything special, I can’t imagine they’d have a different ABS module.

I've been lurking in this thread since a few weeks ago. I have a 2025 Limited without the TRD Off-Road package. I'll likely end up buying the switch and doing some testing of my own. I'm not saying that anyone is wrong, but I just find it difficult to accept that the crawl control requires the use of a locker. I had crawl control in an older 4Runner that I owned and it didn't need the locker to work. When researching adding it to my GX460, I don't remember any mention of needing a locker for it to work.

So far the only known inhibiting factor is AVS nobody knows as of yet what else is preventing it.

These are the posts that hit home with this whole mod.

    101 has AVS & LL
65 Also is a good read.
These guys who have pushed the envelope in attempting this mod have gone above and beyond Virgillus11and Tundra_Lover both have AVS Virgillus11 states MTS works but Crawl/DAC is no bueno.

    Still looking for another factor.

I don't see anything about AVS on 101. Last I saw someone was waiting for the switch to test on AVS.
