Hello all I’m brand new to the forum , I have a 1st gen (02) extended cab Tundra and will be upgrading the front door speakers and was going to get the Kenwood Excelon XR-1801P and was wondering if the 7 inch midbass will fit or do I stick with 6.5 ?

According to crutchfield they won’t fit but was wondering if they would with an extension spacer.

    1701 vs 1801
    upload_2025-3-3_13-9-35.png

Front door specs ignore the Speakers (speakers column is specs of the 1701's)
    upload_2025-3-3_13-9-57.png

Rear door specs (speakers column is specs of the 1701's)
    upload_2025-3-3_13-11-3.png

The 1801's have a mounting depth of 2.5" and a front height of .433" for a total height of 2.933".
The front doors have a depth of 2.347" and a front height of .615" for a total height of 2.962".
This in theory leaves +0.029" of total depth.

The front doors have a cutout diameter of 5.581".
The 1801's have a cutout diameter of 6.0625".
This in theory leaves -0.4815" of cutout diameter.

    by comparison

The 1701's have a mounting depth of 2.329" (specs say 2-3/8" which would be 2.375") and a front height of .417" for a total height of 2.746" (or 2.792" if using the 2-3/8 depth spec).
The front doors have a depth of 2.347" and a front height of .615" for a total height of 2.962".
This in theory leaves +0.216" (or .170" using 2-3/8" depth spec).

The front doors have a cutout diameter of 5.581".
The 1701's have a cutout diameter of 5.5"
This in theory leaves +0.081" of cutout diameter.

All that to say, the 1801's would be close on depth when surface mounted. ABS adapter rings could increase the depth, but then it depends how much space there is between the speaker and the factory speaker grille/door card. The 1801's would have too large a cutout diameter to fit, but again, if using adapter rings, the geometery changes and they might clear the holes.

Where there's a will there's always a way, be it widening the cutouts in your door, using adapter rings etc.

I think the real question is, is going from a 6-1/2" to a 7" worth the added effort for the slight increase in output/response and if so, I'd be looking into 8" woofers for the front doors because that opens up more possibilities.

Appreciate all that spec info , I believe I’ll just go with the 1701’s and make life a bit easier..

Yeah lol I’d do the same, and I’m sure the 1701’s will sound 95% the same, they both use the same tweeter, it’s just the woofer that’s 1/2” bigger
