    Hi,

I am looking to install a remote tailgate lock kit on my 2015 Tundra Limited and have seen the Pop N Lock kit PL8547TUN and the Toyota OEM kit, part PK3B6-34JS0. However, there's an aftermarket kit that's similar to the OEM style on Amazon for about $70, and have anyone installed it and had great success? I am curious if I should go with the $130 (Pop n Lock) $230ish for OEM, or the $70 for the aftermarket OEM style.

    Thanks.

For some reason I thought the pop and lock was the OEM.....at any rate, I used the pop and lock and it works great. Have had it on for about 5 years. Last year, I had to open the tailgate and clean dirt and grease the mechanism because it was getting hung up, but otherwise works great.

Hard to know without looking at the actual $70 "OEM style" kit looks like.

The biggest thing to look for is that the kit is true plug and play. Some of the older kits required splicing/tapping the factory harness. Beside that it is probably the same stuff or function similarly.

FYI someone posted DIY instructions for a homebrewed kit; I think total was ~$20.

It is a plug and play. I think it does not come with instructions, but I found the OEM and youtube videos that'll provide guidance to install it. Please see link below.

    I'd pass on that one.
This makes no sense, the mechanism has NOTHING to do with the camera.

The Pop and Lock is literally plug and play.
It gives you an adapter for the lock/unlock feed..
    I would go with it..

I saw that about the connector to the camera which made no sense.

    Thanks

I had the old style P and L on my 2014 Tundra, and I just replaced the actuator with the new style.
The old one was getting to where it wouldn't lock/unlock every time, but it was 10 years old.
The actuator is much better and quieter now, and as well easier to install...
    [IMG] [IMG]

I now see you can order the replacement actuator if that happens again.
I couldn't find it before and ordered the entire kit.:eek2:

    Good luck..

I ordered the $70 "OEM style" kit from Amazon and if it doesn't work, then I'll return it. I'll post an update when possible.

I’ve had the oem one for about 2-3 years now. No issues at all and very easy to install

Okay, thank you. I'll give it try with the OEM style kit and see what happens.

It should, there is no difference in that part of the truck from 2014 to 2021.
    Maybe even 2007 to 2021.

I'm late to this party, but I'll still throw my experience in for posterity.

I installed the Pop 'n Lock that was available in 2019 for $91. IMG_3012.jpg

installation was a breeze, and this unit still works like it did when I installed it over 5 years ago. My only minor criticism is that it is a little loud, but I don't notice it anymore, and have learned to count on hearing the "thunk" when it actuates.

My brother in law spent the $200+ on the Toyota kit. It did look and feel a little more high quality when it arrived, and it was noticeably quieter. He sold his Tundra shortly after.

I am always wary of buying the cheapest option, but we won't know until someone takes the plunge. Do the community a favor, and let us know how the kit works.

Yes, you have the old style like I did.
It's a bit noisier than P&L's newer style actuator..

It was one of the first things I did to my truck. Totally worth it. I was actually surprised that my 1794 didnt have a power locking tailgate from the factory.

Update - installed the "OEM style" aftermarket kit and everything works so far. There was a hiccup with the functionality. The short wire pins on the actuator that connects to the longer wire were reversed, so it was doing the opposite when I locked or unlocked it. I just de-pinned and switched the two pins in the harness and now everything works as is. I'll post another update if there's any issues with it.

Glad it worked out for you..
Funny when I replaced my old Pop and Lock actuator with the new one, same color wires, it did the same thing.
Lock/unlock was backwards from the truck, I just cut wires and resoldered.

Looks like your kit actually connects to the lock mechanism with no slack.
    upload_2025-3-7_19-43-45.png

The P&L just pushes it one way and then the other leaving slack in between them..
    I like yours..

Thanks. Yes, just a very little slack on the mechanism. It's not too loud either.
