What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

The brake pedal doesn't "engage" until you push it an inch or two, but once it "engages" it's nice and firm. Last time it felt this way I used my parking brake a ton to adjust them, which made the engagement point much higher up in the pedal's travel.

 

Damn is that really the standard? I think when it warms up I may finally take a look at my rears. I'm almost certain pulling the rear drums is gonna be a bear, which is why I've never seen what's behind them. My brakes feel good but there's definitely a couple inches before engagement.

 

Yeah, I've gotten to be pretty picky with the brakes after rebuilding everything over the summer. Also partly because I want some more rear brake bias, just because it's wintertime.

 

I'm sure it's in you build thread, but how does the brake fluid look? When was the last time you did a brake fluid exchange?

 

Looks great. Over the summer I replaced nearly everything except for the hard lines. Flushed out the lines while I was at it, so it's super clean.

 

I finally gave my rear brakes some attention for the first time a few months ago. I had a parking brake that needed way too many clicks to do its job and still didnt hold me on a slight hill.

After adjusting the star clicker, the parking brake cable gap and extra slack out of my parking brake. The brake pedal engaged way sooner, felt more firm and now my parking brake will hold me solid on a pretty steep incline. Never knew my brakes could feel this good all from adjusting the rears.

Ive heard our brakes are very dependent on the rear adjustment from several people here and on the internet, and they werent joking!

That red dash looks amazing. Can you dim it and make it brighter? Or is it stuck like that.

 

Does that light up the interior? Might be cool to drive around on Halloween dressed up like Satan with the horns, cape and jagged sharp teeth.

 

It dims, just in steps, vs smoothly like the incandescent bulbs. Hope that makes sense.

I've been using the JVC KW-M590BT in the 02 AC for over a month, so I wanted to update on my experience. First, Crutchfield gave me no issues in returning the other head unit to them and processing my refund. The capacitive display on this unit is substantially brighter than the resistive display on the other. Glare is still a problem, but it's bearable. The Apple CarPlay features on this unit rock, especially the ability to read your text messages out loud. Android Auto is included, but we don't have Android phones, so I can't speak to how well that works. The sound output is decent, although response to the EQ settings seems inconsistent across tunes. That may be due to the dynamic range of the source files on my iPhone. My only real gripe has to do with the volume buttons. *sigh* There's a real art to getting your finger in just the right place for them to respond. Oh and the first correct touch merely wakes up the volume control, you have to press it correctly at least once more to get an actual change. Overall, it's a definite improvement. Now I'm just eagerly awaiting the DIR harness with reverse tap from @daveeasa so I can seamlessly add a backup camera to this unit.

EDIT: Totally forgot to mention that there is a gap around this unit once installed. The Crutchfield site says the trim ring is not recommended. If you try to use the ring, you'll discover a couple of braces at the top of the opening that keep you from fully seating the HVAC/Radio trim piece. I guess I can live with that. Oh, yeah...I could not reuse the harness from the other unit. So, I had to remove all the PosiTwists from the original connections and reuse them on the new unit harness.

P.S. While writing this post, I noticed that the price of the head unit had dropped $10 on Crutchfield's site. I went to the chat option on their site and told them I wanted to exercise their "Price Drop Guarantee" and they credited my card with the difference plus tax. Not bad!

 

I'm a little late to the game but for those of you talking about rear brakes, don't forget to adjust the bell cranks. There are instructions in the FSM. I just did that to mine a few minutes ago. It takes some of that slack out where you'll feel the brakes engage faster with less pedal travel.

Successfully adjusted my rear brakes without jacking up the rear axle thanks to @KNABORES

Started with 4 clicks on each side. No difference in pedal feel. Did 4 more. Still no change. Did another 4 clicks to make 12 total. Huge difference, pedal felt much better.

Tried another 4 and it was too much. Could feel the drag when coasting. Ended up backing off those 4.

Probably would’ve taken less time if I had just gotten out the factory jack and adjusted them with the wheels in the air. But this way was “easier”.

 

Second part to my bed mounts (required for wild fire prevention).

The Powertank mount for a 10lb Extinguisher showed up so I busted out the RivNuts and got it mounted.

Nice and solid and installed in about 15min.

 

That's clean. Might have to steal this one.

 

I'll tell ya, I love the green backlit gauge cluster on our trucks.

 

Hey guys, I have been reading all the threads. I have a AC 4x4 - we picked up some nice 33's on fuels, and slapped them on there stock - massive trimming to make them fit!
So we started researching - I had a 2nd gen sequoia that I started with 5100's on the second from the top spot and fit 35" - so, I was leaning that way with OME 887 and 5100 - I ordered them unassembled, so I can fiddle with them a bit - which slot should I put the circlip to achieve enough lift to fit the 33's w/ minimum trimming? We are swapping the bumper soon, so no problem to trim that up - don't want to have the trim the cab any if possible -

Oh, I also ordered the 1.5 add a leaf springs for the rear, not sure if we wil use them or not, but i do have the tundra lean to the L, so was hopring that may help some???

 

Need to see these “33’s” and some specs on those wheels to know how or if they will fit. I’m running some small 33s (285/75/16) and they fit with minimal need for trimming (only the mudflap at the pinch weld) on 16x8” wheels with 0 offset (4.5” backspacing). Every one of those specs matters and affects where the tire sits in the wheel well and where it will try to rub.

My 33s (255 85 16) have minimal rubbing. I did the same, removed mudflaps and hammered the pinch weld back a bit. I do have a little rubbing on my passenger frame when turning in reverse at full lock.

 

they are LT305/55/r20 Toyo open country. so they are roughly 33x12.25. so they do poke out past the fender flare a decent bit

 

Same here with the 255s. I need to hammer my pinch weld. I'll get around to it.
